"I thought you wouldn't come today," the man said the moment she stepped into the dimly lit bedroom, but has no bed only two chairs. His voice was low, hoarse, yet annoyingly amused.
"Believe me, I don't want to be here, Mr. Romano," Raya replied.
The day Luca was moved from the room he had been treated like a patient into the room he was now treated like a criminal, Raya had witnessed it. She saw two of Adrian's men dragging him down the hallway. Something about their urgency had made her follow. Maybe it was curiosity. Maybe it was guilt. Maybe it was the way Luca's eyes had briefly met hers — an expression she still couldn't name.
Now she stood before him again.
And everything about him screamed suffering.
