A slight sound echoed through the messy shopping mall. Instructor Harrington swallowed dryly, his shaking hands clutching the alien gun tightly. He cautiously walked around the dysfunctional alien robots, his nerves on high alert as he explored the upper floors.

He arrived at the fourth floor. The outer wall was still pockmarked with tragic craters from the alien bombardment, a dangerous building that looked like it could collapse at any moment. On the floor of the corridor, a variety of goods were scattered, along with the shoes, hats, and backpacks that the customers had lost in their panic.

Instructor Harrington walked slowly against the wall, his alien gun at the ready. He was about to walk past the door of a clothing store when he heard a small movement from inside, from a dressing room.

Who's in there?

He raised his gun and approached the dressing room. As he got closer, he could hear the sound of living creatures inside. He hesitated, then kicked hard at the door. But before his foot could hit it, the door opened from the inside, and he fell forward into the room.

At the same time, two sensitive figures in the dressing room, standing on either side, just barely avoided him.

"Instructor?"

"Instructor Harrington!"

The gun was thrown from his hand. He had fallen hard enough, but he was more frightened, his face turning pale. He had thought he was dead. But then, he heard two familiar voices, and two people helped him to his feet.

"You guys, why are you here?" he asked, amazed, staring blankly at the young boy and girl standing on either side of him. Wasn't it Nami, the class president, and the student who had suddenly disappeared from the outer city, Leo?

"I was worried about Nami, so I sneaked back here," Leo said, his face as usual. "I found her, and we hid in here together."

"Yes, instructor, we were so terrified," Nami said, her beautiful eyes flashing with hazy splashes. As she spoke, she wiped the corners of her lips without leaving a trace. Her pink lips were a little red and swollen. She glared at Leo secretly.

He was a little helpless. Can you blame me? Who provoked whom first?

Instructor Harrington didn't notice. He looked at them, and then, as if in a dream, he patted his own shoulder. After confirming that this was real, the burly and tall man suddenly clutched his forehead and cried out.

"Instructor, are you okay?" Nami asked hurriedly.

"I'm okay, I'm just so happy!" he whimpered. "I just came back from the city war zone. I found the three classmates who were separated. We hid in an underground parking lot, avoiding the alien search. As soon as there was no movement outside, I rushed over here to look for you."

"Fortunately, I've found you both. This way, all of our classmates are safe. Before we left, as the instructor, I said I would be responsible for your safety. No matter what happened, since I brought you to New York, I had to bring you back intact."

"Now, I've done it…"

He cried and laughed, venting his fears and at the same time feeling excited for the safety of his students.

Leo and Nami glanced at each other. This should be the most fortunate thing today.

"Instructor," Leo said with sincere emotion, "you are the real hero."

As night approached, the afterglow of the setting sun fell on the postwar modern city of New York. The electricity in the city had been restored, and neon lights had sounded everywhere in the streets, but the bustling and lively streets were now reduced to ruins filled with gunpowder.

New Yorkers who had been forced to evacuate had now gradually begun to return, mostly ordinary civilians. The rich had second and third residences elsewhere, and it was obvious that they would not be returning to New York for the time being.

Fortunately, the alien war was over. Sooner or later, the city would be rejuvenated.

Leo and Nami met up with the students led by the assistant instructor on the outskirts of the city. The wailing sound continued, and red lights flashed everywhere.

Military and police helicopters flew into the city one after another, and large-scale modern troops entered to block off the battle in the most central city and deal with the follow-up issues of the Battle of New York.

In the outer city, many police officers armed with guns maintained order, and a large number of temporary rescue stations were set up to rescue the wounded and clean up the dead.

Either embracing and reuniting with their loved ones joyfully, or weeping in the face of their loved ones' bodies. Such things were happening everywhere.

"Help me deal with the instructor," Leo whispered to Nami. "I want to go somewhere. I'll be back soon."

"Okay, be safe," she nodded softly.

He secretly left the student group and merged into the chaotic crowd. He quickly came to a city location. As the hardest-hit area bombarded by alien forces, most of the houses and buildings were destroyed, and only a few surviving street lights on the roadside were on.

He saw it as soon as he came here.

On the ruins of a dimly lit building, several rescuers in protective suits were packing two bodies into white body bags. Beside the ruins, a red-haired girl was standing there quietly, looking helpless.

He walked forward without hesitation, and from behind, he hugged her cold body. "Wanda, cry if you want."

The red-haired girl was still patient, but now, it seemed that she had finally found her trust. She turned around and threw herself into his arms, bursting into tears. "Mom and Dad are gone… My brother is gone… I have no family anymore…"

Wanda's little doll-like face was full of tears, and she sobbed pitifully.

"It's not like that," he said, rubbing her red hair. He remembered the domineering, side-leaking green-haired loli, and couldn't help but say with confidence, "You still have family. And Pietro must be fine."

He hugged the girl, paused, and said sincerely, "If you want, you can treat me as family in the future."

"Really?" she raised her eyes, and her red eyes reflected his face.

"Definitely," he said, and put his hand on her head with some affection.

Wanda nodded and finally stopped crying.

At this moment, she seemed to feel something and looked towards the side of the city.

"What's the matter?" he asked, and looked along her gaze, only to see the far end of the night sky glowing red. And then, in the next moment, his ice-blue pupils shrank suddenly.

Someone was wailing.

This was normal, after all, the entire city had just been hit by alien forces. But the wailing he heard did not originate from the street where he was, or even from the inner city of New York. Instead, it came from outside the city, at the end of the night sky.

This wailing sound had the characteristics of ultrasound, and most people couldn't hear it clearly, but people with extraordinary physique could obviously catch it keenly.

This was the wailing that spread all over the world.
