Chapter 101 - Chapter 100 - House Search Part 2

"Why am I sleeping in a girl's room?"

I don't remember being the type of person who'd just make himself at home in a girl's bed. I've only been awake for a few hours... and I don't remember coming home.

Wait, I do remember going to the zombie's house for an investigation. And I remember entering the house and seeing Rem and Ram. After that... after that...

"My memory is hazy."

"Please, hold on, esteemed guest."

A familiar voice cut through my thoughts.

"Rem...?"

She was in the corner of the room, and she had erased her presence so well that I hadn't noticed she was there until now. She was wearing a maid outfit that suited her well. Usually, I'd be excited, but right now, I'm just confused.

This makes no sense. Why was I asleep with Rem, who should have been at that guy's house, watching over me?

It was then that I noticed something written on my left hand. It was an illegible scrawl, as if someone was being chased while writing it. The letters were like melted ice compared to my usual handwriting.

But the words written there were more than enough for me to grasp the situation.

"Gah!"

[JAIL HOUSE LOCK]

Jail House Lock—I'm under a Stand attack!

Jail House Lock. Its ability is to "make you remember only three things at a time." It doesn't affect your existing knowledge or memories, only new things you learn. And the memory of what happened immediately before and after the Stand ability is activated becomes hazy. Even if you see the user, you won't remember it.

"I need to keep this writing in my sight at all times."

If I were to forget for some reason, having it in my field of vision should help to a certain extent, since I know how the ability works. The problem is that I have to defeat the user in this state.

Before I do that, I'll get out of this place. If I can get out of Jail House Lock's effective range, I should be able to escape this restricted state.

I don't know where I am, but if I just run far away, it should work. Jail House Lock doesn't have the power to cover this entire island.

I gathered my strength. I reinforced my body with dark magic, and to avoid taking in any unnecessary information, I decided to smash through the wall and jump out.

Just as I was about to leap,

"Please wait, esteemed guest."

My concentration scattered at the sound of her voice.

"Re-Rem...?"

Had my attempt to avoid outside information backfired? I hadn't realized she was right next to me. Was Rem also a girl summoned by that guy? Or was she originally from this world...?

"Oh."

"I'll just take your hand for a moment."

Rem took a wet towel and wiped my left hand. The towel was at just the right temperature, so I wasn't surprised by the difference in temperature between the towel and my skin.

Wait, why was I... 'trying to jump out?' Why was Rem taking such good care of me?

"The pen I lent you a moment ago, are you done with it?"

"Huh? Oh, right...?"

I was holding a pen? But why?

I gave her the pen as she asked.

What was I doing here again?

----------

The Class 1 criminal "Rye" was quietly packing her bags. She was in the room that had been assigned to her—a room that once belonged to a girl who had been summoned to this house.

The items meticulously packed into a small, bulletproof carry-on were completely ordinary. There was nothing out of the ordinary. It only contained items that would easily pass through strict airport security.

That was all she owned. She didn't want to stand out, so she didn't need special brands or cosmetics. She also didn't need accessories that would unnecessarily draw attention to her. For a weapon to kill her target, her own fists were more than enough.

"And then there's this, I guess."

A portable CD rack. It was filled to the brim with White Snake's "DISCs." And a few special tools that were left in this house. She had been told to retrieve these without fail.

"I don't want to carry them since they stand out."

These were clearly out of place. Rye hated even being in the same space as them. She had been hoarding the DISCs created by White Snake in this place, as if they were a collection.

Even so, the zombie rarely ever came to see the DISCs. He had come to get a few Stand DISCs after he started dealing with Vlad, but it was fair to say that she had been unilaterally hoarding them.

In addition to the Stands, there were also discs of stolen physical abilities and magical power. All in all, they filled two large duffel bags. Carrying something like that would definitely attract attention.

"Ugh."

It was understandable that her face soured at the thought of having to carry all her belongings.

But she had a reason to take them with her.

Sighing, she put the long straps of the duffel bags over both shoulders. The sheer weight pressed down on her, and she almost dropped them.

"..."

All she had to do was pull the carry-on and leave.

"Maybe I should kill someone..."

But then she stopped and said that. She put her index finger to her lips, as if contemplating what drink to get from a vending machine.

"No, I'll pass. There seems to be a Stand user here."

She still had a handle on her impulses. There was no need to risk it just to kill someone. Her tone was light. It carried about as much weight as deciding whether or not to have dessert after dinner.

"Um, excuse me..."

"...? What is it?"

It was the girl who had been taking care of Rye. Rye didn't remember her name, but she remembered her face. She was the girl Rye had seen the most, as Rye didn't like interacting with others. She was also one of the few girls who had been summoned after the zombie stopped coming around as much and hadn't been subjected to his violence.

The girl asked timidly,

"Are you going out?"

"Oh."

Rye seemed to realize something and put down the duffel bags.

"Here, take these."

She took a bundle of DISCs out of the bag and handed them to the girl. The girl's eyes went wide in surprise.

"I'm not coming back. Goodbye."

When the girl looked up in surprise at her words, Rye was already nowhere to be seen.

----------

In conclusion, I couldn't do anything.

By the time I came to and stepped into the hallway, the user was gone. The same went for Sakura and Fate-san.

I had come for an investigation, but at some point, I had been put to sleep in a girl's room at that guy's house. I was left unharmed, and the perpetrator escaped.

The footage from the devices that were recording inside the building didn't show the enemy either. Even though the voices in the living room were recorded. From the audio data, we learned that the enemy was the Class 1 criminal "Rye."

According to the information, her ability was to become invisible by manipulating the refraction of light, and she was a criminal who used this ability for assassinations.

It seemed that bundles of DISCs were left in the hallway to bind the wills of the girls in the building. The DISCs bound their animosity toward certain people and their will to leave the building. Some girls hadn't had their animosity removed, but that was probably for her own entertainment.

Even though the enemy didn't intend to harm us, we were all helpless. What's more, she even released the hostages. I, of course, as well as Sakura, Harlaown-san, and the other officers, all woke up in a bed. We searched the building thoroughly, but we didn't find any clues.

Even though we didn't fight, we don't know what she did to us, so if we ever have to fight her again, we won't be able to put up a decent fight. Not that there's such a thing as an easy assassin to fight.

"Sho-kun? Where are you going?"

While Testarossa-san and the others, who had regained their senses, were searching the upper floors, I decided to search the lower floor instead. Specifically, the room that had been assigned to that zombie.

"If this place has the same layout as where we live..."

The rooms for us people from another world should be in the same location. And there's a very high chance that weapons and tools summoned from another world are stored in my room.

"When you find something, please tell me before you tell Testarossa-san."

"Got it, Sho-kun."

I wanted to avoid the technology of the summoned weapons from spreading unnecessarily. It could cause new conflicts. That's why I wanted to check what was there before anyone else...

"Sakura."

"Yes?"

"What I just said is a complete violation of a superior's order."

"But Sho-kun, you're not a bad person. If you don't use it for bad things, then there's no problem, right?"

Well, that's true.

Feeling Sakura's deep trust, I began to search—and was done in a heartbeat.

"There's nothing here..."

"Right..."

He barely had any personal belongings. The bookshelf was empty and so was the armory. I have no idea how old he is, but there were no documents about school or requests he'd received. It was to the point where I questioned whether he actually lived here.

But it was weird. From the way he talked, it sounded like he was messing around a lot, so how could there be nothing? Is that even possible? I mean, there were Stand arrows and the zombie gamer, so it's not like there was nothing.

"Could he have put them somewhere else?"

"Are you looking for something?"

"Oh, uh, just a little..."

"Is it something you can't tell me?"

I looked up in surprise. I saw Sakura's face as she peered down at me. The corners of her eyes were slightly drooping.

"It's not that..."

Sakura trusts me and has feelings for me. It's only natural for a person to reciprocate that.

"It's okay, Sho-kun. You don't have to force yourself to say things you don't want to. You have your own reasons, don't you?"

"No, I think I should tell you. It might sound crazy, but he and I aren't from this world."

When I said "he," I pointed at the owner of this room with my finger. Naturally, a look of confusion appeared on Sakura's face.

"Not from this world, does that mean from a parallel world?"

"I don't think so. I'd say more of a different world."

It's too different from my original world to be a parallel one. Even if they had branched off a long time ago, a change this drastic is unlikely.

"Why did you come to this world, Sho-kun? Did you come to chase him?"

"I only found out about him after I got here. There's no particular reason. It was an accident, I don't know why."

As I thought about it, it was sudden. I was just surfing the internet on my phone like usual, and I became interested in an ad I'd normally ignore...

"And the next thing I knew, I was here."

"Why did you think you were from the same place as him?"

"Because he had abilities and tools that I knew about from my world, things that don't exist in this one. Including the Stand."

Sakura gasped at the word Stand. Of course, she's an honor student. She must know about Stands. About the Stands that are becoming the center of attention on this island.

"Was the Stand an ability from your world, Sho-kun?"

"It's not really from my world... It's more like a story from a manga in my world."

"Huh...?"

Sakura tilted her head, as if she didn't understand.

"I'll ask about that in detail later... Is that all? Isn't there something more important?"

"..."

There is. The fact that my abilities increase when I have sex. It's the most sensitive part. But if I don't explain this, I can't fully explain why I came here.

"It's connected to how the Stand is originally from a manga... When me and probably him... have sex with a woman, we get a new ability. An ability from a manga or anime that doesn't exist in reality."

"...Hmm?"

Sakura obviously didn't understand. I tried to explain the situation, being careful with my words. But before I could, Sakura looked away and spoke.

"S-so, what about with me yesterday...?"

"That's right. To be exact, it's based on the number of times I've ejaculated..."

"..."

"..."

"S-sorry. It's a little hard to process..."

"I know it's a lot to take in, but it's okay if you just forget it."

I can't take back what I said. Or can I? Maybe in this world, I could just erase her memory.

We were no longer in the mood to investigate. We needed to calm down. Was it careless of me to have told her?

In the end, we remained awkward with each other until we left.

----------

"It's so heavy..."

She was sweating profusely, and her steps were heavy. The weight pressing down on her shoulders was wearing her out.

"Maybe I should have just left it behind..."

In that case, she wouldn't be able to make the deal, but honestly, she could easily get the same amount herself. But considering the difference in effort between having someone else prepare it and preparing it herself, just handing over the DISCs was much easier.

And this was the result of that decision.

"Alright, I'll just throw it away."

She made up her mind quickly. She put down the duffel bags that had become an unnecessary workout tool. They didn't just contain DISCs; they also held weapons and tools that the zombie had collected. They would be worth an incredible amount of money if she gave them to the right person, but she had no attachment to money.

With a physically lighter step, she set out aimlessly.

"H-hey! Look at that..."

"Someone's floating..."

"Isn't using abilities in a place like this a violation of the regulations?"

At that moment, the people around her suddenly started to stir. An excellent Butei would react quickly to that change and squint her eyes.

"Hey, hey! It's not nice to leave without me!"

"Shinonono Tabane..."

A woman in a frilly apron dress with bunny ears and a wide open chest, looking as if she had just come out of a store, descended from the sky.

People backed away from where she landed. Rye sighed at Tabane's actions, as she didn't care about the people around her.

"I told you not to do that, it makes you stand out."

"But I couldn't help it! I was so excited to see you after so long!"

Rye silently held out the duffel bags. The bags floated on their own without anyone touching them and landed in Tabane's hands.

"Well then, let's go."

"Alright."
