Chapter 17 - Chapter 17- Cutting The Wings

Yang Kai strolled leisurely toward a polished wooden chair and lowered himself onto it, his movements deliberate.

"I don't like waiting," he said calmly, his voice edged with authority. "Go get the bags."

Enough of the good-boy act. Time to show them what a bad boy really looks like, he thought, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.

The boutique staff, stunned by his earlier declaration, snapped out of their daze at his command. They scattered toward the shelves, hurrying to gather every designer bag, their heels clicking frantically on the marble floor. One by one, they carried the expensive bags to the counter, the pile growing into a mountain of leather and gold accents.

Lin Quizu stood frozen, her eyes wide in disbelief. He's really going to buy all of them… just to make them regret their words? Her lips curled into a small, involuntary smile, and a faint pink bloomed across her cheeks.

A soft golden shimmer flickered before Yang Kai's eyes—a system notification only he could see.

[Host, Lin Quizu's Favorability Increased By 5]

[Current Favorability: 20]

Yang Kai caught sight of Lin Quizu's delicate smile and her flushed cheeks, satisfaction glinting in his gaze.

The saleswoman who had greeted them earlier stepped forward, her voice a little shaky.

"We've… brought every latest bag, sir."

Yang Kai rose smoothly from the chair, his expression calm and unbothered. He approached the counter, withdrew his pitch-black card, and set it down with a confident flick.

"Make the bill under Lin Quizu's name," he said evenly. "And swipe my card."

The cashier quickly tapped at the register, her fingers trembling. She looked up, panic flashing in her eyes.

"Sir, you brought 20 latest bags and the total is twenty million yuan… Are you sure you want to purchase them all?"

Yang Kai cast a glance over his shoulder at Lin Quizu, his eyes meeting hers briefly, and answered without hesitation.

"Yeah."

The color drained from Lin Quizu's face.

"Hey—it's not cheap, you know! Don't buy all those just because—"

But her protest was cut short by the mechanical beep of the POS terminal. A crisp, automated voice filled the boutique:

"Payment confirmed: 20,000,000 yuan."

The boutique fell silent again, the enormity of the sum sinking in.

A soft chime, inaudible to anyone else, echoed in Yang Kai's ears.

[Ding!]

[Host has spent 20,000,000 yuan. Host has received 400,000 yuan in the original account.]

His phone buzzed faintly. Sliding it from his pocket, Yang Kai glanced at the screen:

[China Construction Bank] Your card ending in 1658 received 400,000 yuan on May 16 at 4:15. Your current account balance is 4,16,718.

Without another word, he pocketed the phone, retrieved his black card from the cashier's trembling hands, and slipped it back into his pocket, his expression unreadable. The boutique's staff stood frozen, their earlier whispers now heavy with regret. Lin Quizu could only stare at him—shocked, flustered, and just a little more impressed.

A golden-yellow system screen shimmered into existence before Yang Kai's eyes, the words glowing brilliantly.

Almost instantly, Yang Kai's features sharpened, his jawline becoming more defined, and his eyes gleamed with a subtle magnetism. The change was undeniable—his plain, approachable look transformed into striking, almost aristocratic handsomeness.

The boutique fell silent once again, but soon the saleswomen couldn't hold back their whispers.

"Wait… why does he look so much more handsome than before?" one murmured, her voice tinged with awe.

"Yeah, his face—it's like it changed shape… He's even more handsome now," another whispered, her cheeks faintly flushed.

A third giggled softly. "Well, he said he's not Lin Quizu's boyfriend. Does that mean we might have a chance?"

Lin Quizu's lips parted slightly in surprise. What are they even talking about? Did… Yang Kai actually become more handsome?

She turned to look at him, but before she could speak, Yang Kai met her gaze with a warm, gentle smile that seemed to melt the air between them.

"So," he said casually, his tone light but confident, "let's go. I need to buy some clothes."

My appearance has definitely increased. This should raise her favorability, Yang Kai thought as he held her gaze.

Lin Quizu stared for a heartbeat, still trying to reconcile the change she had witnessed. Minutes ago, Yang Kai had been just an average-looking guy. Now, he seemed like someone who could step off the cover of a magazine. She felt heat rush to her cheeks but quickly composed herself.

"O-okay," she replied softly.

The two of them walked side by side toward the boutique's glass door. Just as Lin Quizu reached for the handle, Yang Kai glanced back over his shoulder, his expression smug and self-assured.

"Well," he said, his tone dripping with casual dominance, "I want all of them delivered to Lin Quizu's house by tomorrow."

The saleswoman who had first greeted them nodded rapidly, almost bowing.

"Y-yes, sir. Leave it to me!"

Yang Kai gave a small, satisfied nod and stepped outside with Lin Quizu. The door swung shut behind them, leaving the saleswomen inside to exchange hushed, breathless whispers.

"He's… incredible."

"And that smile—did you see that?"

"I can't believe I thought he was just some broke guy."

Their earlier arrogance now melted into a mix of regret and fascination, the memory of Yang Kai's transformed face lingering in their minds long after he had gone.

Outside, as they made their way toward the clothing shop, Yang Kai's jaw tightened. He clenched his fist, the smile he had shown in the boutique completely gone.

Damn it… not even one percent increase in her favorability? Am I not handsome enough? Back in the Immortal World, women—righteous or demonic—fell for me the moment they saw me. But now… tsk.

He followed silently behind Lin Quizu, his irritation simmering beneath the surface. Ahead of him, Lin Quizu's cheeks glowed faintly pink as she walked, still thinking about how Yang Kai had transformed so suddenly. Her mind replayed his confident smile, and the memory sent a strange flutter through her chest.

A few minutes later, they arrived at Male's Paradise, a renowned boutique for men's fashion. The shop was filled with stylish suits, casual wear, and rows of polished shoes arranged like treasures under soft lighting.

The two stepped inside. Yang Kai's gaze swept over the racks of fashionable clothing, while Lin Quizu quietly walked over to a plush blue sofa and sat down, her expression calm but her thoughts elsewhere.

A neatly dressed salesman approached with a polite bow. "Welcome, sir and miss."

Yang Kai nodded slightly. "I want some clothes."

The salesman gestured toward the racks and led Yang Kai through the aisles, showing him several sets in varying colors and designs. Yang Kai examined the garments, his brow furrowed as confusion crept across his face.

Damn this world, he thought grimly. I don't even know what suits me here. In the Immortal World, my robes carried meaning—status, sect, power. These… they're just clothes.

From the sofa, Lin Quizu watched him fumble between choices, a sigh escaping her lips. This guy… he'll spend years just picking a shirt.

Behind the counter, another employee stole glances at Lin Quizu, mesmerized by her beauty. His heart ached with envy as he watched Yang Kai.

That guy… he has a girlfriend like her? My poor, pathetic life. He sniffled dramatically under his breath.

Lin Quizu finally rose from the sofa and approached Yang Kai, folding her arms across her chest. Both Yang Kai and the salesman looked up as she stopped beside them.

Yang Kai tilted his head slightly. "What? Do you want to buy something too?"

Instead of answering, Lin Quizu quickly lifted her foot and tapped it firmly against his. Yang Kai flinched, nearly letting out a pained yelp, but swallowed it down, forcing a calm face.

"You… Don't tell me you don't even know what kind of clothes suit you," she said, her tone part disbelief, part teasing.

Yang Kai rubbed the back of his head, giving an awkward laugh. "Ah… you're right. I don't know."

Lin Quizu exhaled deeply, snatching a set of clothes from the salesman's hands. "Agh, fine. I'll pick some for you."

The salesman stepped back slightly, hiding a small smile as Lin Quizu took charge, while Yang Kai stood silently.
