Chapter 258 - Chapter 258 Escape, snatch

A cacophony of voices reached his ears, incredibly noisy and irritating, causing the man a severe headache; he felt dizzy and his entire body seemed to be falling apart, yet he couldn't open his eyes.

His memory was still stuck on the last moment he frantically fled towards the square, only to be thrown flying by the impact of the Kremlin explosion.

After an unknown period, he finally managed to open his eyes, only to be met with a pristine white ceiling.

He tried to get up but found his hands restrained. With effort, he turned his head and saw that both his hands were cuffed to the hospital bed.

Just then, a man with a sinister gaze and gaunt features walked over.

Seeing the man's somewhat bewildered expression, he was furious, but he suppressed his anger.

"Damn bastard, this is the stolen goods you left behind!"

This man was a Russian agent, one of those responsible for the Kremlin bombing investigation.

In his hand was the jacket the man had changed into after leaving the Kremlin. It was a reversible jacket; one side was a Russian officer's uniform, and the other was just a regular everyday jacket.

"I really don't understand why you Mad Dog had to blow up my great Kremlin and create this damned chaos for me!"

As he spoke, he violently threw the jacket onto the hospital bed, then pulled out a voice recorder and played a segment.

"I got the item, I'm coming out now."

These were the words Zhang Jie had said when he got the briefcase, but for some unknown reason, this agent had kept the recording.

The man, Ethan, was still suffering from a headache, but his vigilance told him that the current situation was not optimistic.

"You're unlucky to have run into me!"

The agent put away his voice recorder. "I never show mercy. You've damaged my country! I will make you pay!"

Looking at the somewhat angry agent, he didn't know what to say.

At that moment, the agent pulled out a cigarette and was about to light it when suddenly a hand reached out and took his cigarette.

"Э т о б о л ь н и ц а , а н е б а р ! З а б и р а й т е с в о и в е щ и и п р о в а л и в а й т е ! (This is a hospital, not a bar, take your things and get out!)"

It was a nurse speaking. She disdainfully threw the jacket, which had been left on the bed, to the agent, then, with another nurse, pushed the bed to which Ethan was cuffed.

Then the two nurses dragged Ethan's cuffed bed towards the ward.

Lying on the bed, Ethan knew he was in a very dangerous situation, but it wasn't impossible to escape. At least one thing he was sure of was that explaining was out of the question; no one would believe him anyway.

His hand reached for the medical file that the nurse had casually left on the bed earlier, and he removed a paperclip from it.

As the hospital bed was placed in the ward, the agent intended to watch the doctor, but his superior arrived.

So he walked to the side and began explaining the current situation to his superior.

Seeing his chance, Ethan immediately twisted his wrist, using the straightened paperclip he had just bent, to painstakingly insert it into the handcuff's keyhole. After some fiddling, he unlocked the handcuff, then quickly picked up the paperclip and unlocked the left handcuff as well.

Without time to think, he jumped directly onto the window and climbed to the right.

After finishing his conversation with his superior and seeing him off, the agent turned around and found the bed empty. He immediately realized something was wrong and rushed over.

Looking at the open window, he leaned out and saw Ethan clinging to the corner of the wall, so he relaxed.

"It's a good 12 meters to the ground here. Go ahead and jump if you dare."

Jumping from a height of 12 meters would definitely be fatal. He didn't believe the other person was a superman, so he calmly sat on the window, pulled out another cigarette, and lit it.

In fact, Ethan's current position was indeed very high, and he didn't dare to jump down because the height was too great; even if there was a garbage truck below, he couldn't guarantee his survival after jumping.

But precisely at this moment, a silver van drove up from a distance. Ethan glanced at it and, without hesitation, unbuckled his belt.

The agent was still wondering why the man suddenly unbuckled his belt, then he glanced at the silver van below, and a bad feeling immediately arose in his heart, but he couldn't be sure.

The next second, Ethan folded his belt twice, sharply wrapped it around the overhead power line, grabbed both ends of the belt with his hands, and slid down, using the support of the power line.

Using his body weight to pull the power line down, and at the same time using the line's support to suspend his body so he wouldn't immediately fall, he finally reached the lowest point the power line could be pressed down to, then he released his hands.

He fell heavily, then crashed onto the silver van with a "bang."

The loud noise startled the van driver, and a string of vulgar Russian curses erupted.

Ethan understood clearly; was he cursing him for not fearing death?

Ethan, who had rolled twice on the ground, looked up at the agent still sitting on the window. Seeing him about to draw his gun, Ethan immediately took off running.

Temporarily out of danger, Ethan immediately sought a way to rendezvous with his companions. He needed to report this incident to his superior.

Meanwhile, Zhang Jie and Anna also arrived in Sergiyev Posad.

"By the way, is the safe house you mentioned actually safe?"

As Anna drove towards the safe house, Zhang Jie suddenly asked a pointed question. After all, just the day before, he had personally witnessed Anna's safe house being raided by KGB agents.

Anna rolled her eyes at Zhang Jie. "This place is far from Moscow, over 130 kilometers away. If KGB agents can still find it here, then all my years of undercover work would have been for nothing, wouldn't they?"

Anna was extremely confident in her professional abilities. After all, she had been undercover in Russia for so many years; yesterday's incident was just an accident.

"Oh..."

Zhang Jie responded, then said nothing more.

He then picked up the box in his hand and shook it. He found it hard to believe that a nuclear missile launch controller was hidden in such a small box.

The distance to the safe house grew shorter and shorter.

But Zhang Jie still felt a sense of unease.

While they were waiting at a traffic light, Zhang Jie subconsciously glanced at the rearview mirror and saw a truck approaching them, seemingly without any intention of slowing down.

"What the f—!"

Zhang Jie suddenly shrieked, then immediately opened the car door and ran out.

"Run!"

Zhang Jie's voice clearly reached Anna's ears. She was initially a bit confused; why did this guy suddenly jump out of the car?

Then she saw the truck in the rearview mirror.

The next second, a strong push-back force came, and Anna was almost pressed against the steering wheel. Fortunately, she managed to protect her face with both hands in time.

The next second, this push-back force stopped. Anna seized the opportunity to jump out of the car, while the large truck, having collided with the Beetle, continued forward.

"Bitch!" Seeing the woman jump out of the truck, Anna was enraged. She immediately pulled out her glock 19 and began Shooting at the woman.

Bang, bang, bang!
