Chapter 3: Super Saiyan 2
After defeating Piccolo, Trunks returned home.
He went back to training with Vegeta, hoping to surpass him and unlock the power of Super Saiyan 2.
But even after strengthening himself, he was still far from beating Vegeta.
Even with tricks.
"This is the second time you've tried to take me down with a single blow."
"Do you want to surpass your own father that badly?"
"Ah… hahaha, I just feel like I'll get stronger if I beat you, Dad."
Vegeta assumed Trunks loved fighting and wanted to grow stronger.
But in truth, Trunks only wanted to defeat Vegeta to obtain Super Saiyan 2.
After a week had passed, Trunks went to play with Goten. While they were together, he asked if Goten's punishment had ended.
"Umm… Mom lets me train and use my power again."
"That's great!"
Trunks jumped with excitement, leaping about ten meters away from Goten.
With a smile and eyes full of fire, he shouted:
"Goten, let's fight! I'll show you my new power!"
"Yoooosh… let's finish this quickly so we can go fishing!"
The only thing on Goten's mind was fishing. He had dreamed the night before of catching a giant carp and eating it all by himself until his belly swelled.
"I'm coming, Goten!"
With a loud cry, Trunks transformed directly into Super Saiyan and charged at Goten with insane speed.
Seeing Trunks' speed and power stronger than he remembered, Goten was shocked. He immediately transformed into Super Saiyan himself, releasing his full power in a golden burst.
BOOOOM!
They punched at the same time. Their fists collided, creating a massive shockwave.
Both were pushed several meters back. Then, in unison, they took the same stance and began charging ki in their hands.
"Kaaa…"
"Meeeeee!"
"Haaaaaaa!"
"Meeeeee!"
They glared at each other, unleashing their Kamehameha waves at the exact same moment.
"HAAAAAA!"
The two attacks collided, forming a violent storm of destructive power. But it was clear Trunks' blast was stronger.
"Goten, you've lost!"
"HAAAAAA!"
With those words, Trunks poured his full power into the wave, overwhelming Goten with ease.
BOOOOOM!
From within the dust, Goten emerged. His clothes were torn in places, his body covered in bruises and small wounds.
"Ah… Goten, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, but Trunks… you've gotten really strong."
Even though he lost and got hurt, Goten was genuinely happy for his friend.
Seeing this, Trunks was touched.
He decided to help Goten grow stronger—unlike how things turned out for him in Dragon Ball GT.

Hearing the system's notifications, Trunks felt overwhelming joy. He immediately ordered the system to use the Advance Card.
In that instant, Trunks' power began to rise at a terrifying rate. He transformed into Super Saiyan unconsciously, and his strength continued to grow in that state.
After a minute, Trunks was shocked.
He felt he had reached the very peak of the Super Saiyan form.
Now, he could stay in Super Saiyan for months without any strain or energy drain.
"Isn't this the same mastery Gohan and Goku achieved before the Cell Games?"
Nearby, Goten stared wide-eyed at Trunks, shocked by his sudden second transformation. His jaw dropped even further as he sensed Trunks' power doubling, then tripling, at insane speed.
The golden aura shot up into the sky, and every fighter on Earth could feel Trunks' energy.
"Trunks…"
Goten didn't know what was happening. All he knew was that Trunks' power was still climbing.
Suddenly, sparks of electricity appeared around Trunks. His hair stood completely upright, except for two bangs falling over his forehead.
"So this is Super Saiyan 2."
"Its power is terrifying…"
Trunks smiled, feeling himself stabilize at a mid-level Super Saiyan 2.
He was a little disappointed.
If his power had continued rising toward the peak, he might have broken through straight into Super Saiyan 3.
Even so, he smiled and returned to normal. Then he looked at the dumbfounded Goten and walked closer.
"Goten, did you see that…?"
"I saw it, but I don't understand what just happened."
"Me neither. All I know is… my strength has increased a lot."
Trunks lied with a straight face, making Goten believe he truly didn't know how his power had risen so much.
At Capsule Corp, Vegeta was training inside the Gravity Room in Super Saiyan 2 form. Suddenly, he froze and turned toward a certain direction. He had just sensed Trunks' power multiply several times over.
"Did he just break through to Super Saiyan 2…?"
Vegeta was stunned.
Could his son's talent really be that monstrous?
He didn't want to believe it, yet deep inside he felt pride.
But even so, there was no way he'd allow his son to surpass him. He had to grow stronger himself—stronger than Super Saiyan 2.
Before Kakarot… and before his own son.
Meanwhile, at the Son household, Gohan was studying when he suddenly sensed the energy of Goten and Trunks in their Super Saiyan forms.
After focusing, he relaxed, realizing there was no enemy nearby.
But after a while, he sensed Goten weaken back to normal. Then, Trunks' power skyrocketed at terrifying speed. In almost no time, Trunks had broken through to Super Saiyan 2.
This left Gohan speechless.
What kind of monster was Trunks becoming?
Still, he felt uneasy.
After all, Gohan knew that breaking through to Super Saiyan 2 required rage. He had learned that the hard way. Vegeta was the exception, reaching it through training alone.
So Gohan grew worried about Trunks and Goten.
Without hesitation, he rushed off toward them.
