"Chaa!"
In Eterna Forest, Sceptile, still chewing its twig, moved swiftly through the jungle, searching for prey that met its standards.
Its special move training had ended yesterday, having successfully mastered Dragon Pulse, Focus Blast, and Earthquake. Ash told Sceptile these moves would increase its ability to handle various types of Pokémon.
Sceptile was sent out for "grinding" ,a concept it learned from Scizor at the lab, which promised increased power and special items from Ash. The rule was to knock opponents out, not kill them.
Sceptile confirmed the method by knocking out a playful Teddiursa and feeling a slight power increase. However, a dozen Combee yielded no results. Sceptile concluded they were not the required "quantity."
"Chaa!"
Sceptile used the combined speed of Quick Attack and Extreme Speed to move deeper. It ran into another Teddiursa and felt a slight power boost, leading it to find a large Ursaring colony.
"Roar!"
Following an angry roar, Sceptile arrived at the gathering spot. The Ursaring leader, holding its fainted Teddiursa, roared in challenge. Sceptile, with its arms sharpened into scimitars, stepped out and addressed the furious colony:
"Chaa! (My apologies, that was me.)"
The colony of nearly a hundred Ursaring charged Sceptile, but against the newly empowered Grass-type, they were no match. Sceptile effortlessly took down one after another, using Dragon Pulse to fell three at once and a Dragon Tail for another.
In less than ten minutes, Sceptile had defeated all one hundred Ursaring, including the leader.
"Chaa!" Sceptile clapped its hands, nodding in satisfaction. Its internal energy had increased by one percent—a significant improvement.
Sceptile then dispensed the white, recovery-type Pokéblocks Ash had given it to revive the fallen Pokémon. The remaining Teddiursa, however, ate the Pokéblocks themselves, forgetting their task.
Sceptile left the scene, having found its next target: an energetic colony of Vigoroth.
