Athènia's POV
Mac places his hand on my shoulder.
Mac: Supreme, are you alright?
Athènia: Don't worry, Mac. I'll find a solution soon. I'll get through this.
Mac nods and breaks his spell. We walk toward the other two.
Athènia: Alright, I'll be straight with you. We all know the ancestors insisted we unite for some unknown reason. And that reason turns out to be the identity of the one responsible for Karmil and Nancia's deaths. So, we're going to join forces and defeat Im.
The vampire raises an eyebrow, skeptical.
Kemran: And who told you that we would unite?
{Kora: He doesn't want to get involved and risk the lives of his people.}
I sigh before looking at him.
Athènia: And what do you plan to do? Go see the Supreme and say, Hey Supreme, would you kindly spare my people?
I glare at the vampire, annoyed, as he lifts another eyebrow.
Kemran: Not such a bad idea.
I slap my forehead with my hand.
Athènia: And you really think he'd answer, Oh, what a pleasure! Idiot. Brainless fool.
The Alpha bristles at the way I insult her companion oh right, our companion.
Naynah: Don't insult him.
I think they've gotten along quite well. I mean, they slept together.
Athènia: And you expect me to call him smart? Let me remind you, the Supreme has made his intentions clear. He wants us gone: the witches, the werewolves, and the vampires. Otherwise, why do you think he killed Nancia and Karmil?
They look at me as if I'd just said something foolish.
Naynah: But the reason behind his hatred is still unknown.
Mac meets my gaze.
Mac: I believe you already know the reason, Supreme.
He tells me through our mental link.
Athènia: I do. But I won't tell them. Not yet. Once I trust them more, I'll reveal it. But above all, don't tell them I'm a hybrid too. I don't want them to know I have powers and a wolf inside me.
Mac: As you command, Supreme.
He replies.
Athènia: What we need to understand is the reason behind his title.
Mac: He wants to be the one who rules over all supernaturals. He can't achieve that as long as the three powers still exist.
Naynah: But he must be strong, since he's a hybrid.
Athènia: Yes, but one side of him must be dominant either his vampire side or his werewolf side.
The Alpha stares at me suspiciously.
Naynah: And how do you know all that?
I give her a sarcastic look.
Athènia: The Supernatural Library at the university.
Kemran: And so...
Before he can finish, the cave begins to tremble, and the walls slowly start closing in.
Athènia: Mac, what's happening?
Mac: Get out of here! The walls will close completely. If you stay, you'll be trapped with me until someone from the outside opens it again.
Kemran: Then let's hurry and get out!
The vampire and the Alpha take off running.
I'm about to leave when I stop and glance back at Mac.
Athènia: You're not coming with us?
Mac: I have to stay. I can only leave this place once Supreme Im is dead. I'm putting my trust in you. Go, run!
I nod and sprint toward the wall, barely making it out in time. The Alpha places a hand on her hip.
Naynah: We thought you were going to stay in there.
Athènia: That wouldve pleased you, wouldn't it?
I answer sarcastically.
Kemran: So we're still stuck here.
{Kora: We don't have a choice. We'll have to stay the night here.}
Athènia: Yes, but I told Mara to warn Tevi to come looking for me tomorrow if I don't return tonight.
{Kora: So we'll have to spend the evening with them.}
Athènia: Of course.
I take a deep breath under their watchful eyes.
Kemran: So, what do we do now?
Athènia: We can't leave, it's night.
Naynah: And how do you know it's night?
Athènia: Mac told me before I left the cave. We'll need someone outside to open the way.
Kemran: So, are we allies or not?
Athènia: Of course we are, you big dummy. What do you think, are we playing hide and seek here?
I raise an eyebrow at them.
Athènia: Allies or not? It's your choice.
I extend my hand, just as my father once did.
Kemran: Well, I guess it's time.
He places his hand on mine, and sparks run through my body.
Naynah: Fine.
The Alpha places her hand on ours. I smile.
Athènia: Allies, then.
Kemran: Allies.
Naynah: But only to defeat the Supreme.
I roll my eyes.
Athènia: But of course.
I pull my hand back.
Athènia: For now, we have to stay here. Mr. Ken will surely notice that some students are missing.
This time, the Alpha rolls her eyes.
Naynah: Especially if his favorite one isn't there.
Athènia: Well, what do you expect? What else can he do with someone as exceptional as me?
I say mockingly. We begin walking toward the spot where we first entered.
{Kora: How long are we going to keep hiding my existence and your true identity?}
Athènia: Until my powers awaken.
She withdraws into a corner of my mind. She knows I have my reasons. The alliance has only just begun, and something tells me that something unexpected is about to happen.
