Chapter 162 - Chapter 16: Completely Drained

Morin's ID card allowed him to enter the mech pilot training ground without any trouble.

What surprised him was that among the many preparatory pilots sweating through their training, Song Shu and Fang Xing were nowhere to be seen.

That was strange.

Instructor Sun, who normally oversaw training, wasn't there either.

Morin casually stopped a staff member to ask.

Only then did he learn that because Song Shu and Fang Xing had performed so well, they had been taken for a Pontus Bridge test.

"So they listened to what I said," Morin thought. "Good. That makes things easier."

He asked where the test was being held and strolled over.

Earlier that afternoon, Morin had already hypnotized the leader of Moscow's largest underground kingdom.

Money. Information. Manufacturing bases.

That was what he asked for.

What it cost in manpower and funds wasn't his concern.

They were criminals. Using them didn't bother him.

After that came fundraising, sourcing materials through multiple channels, and controlling a suitable base for production.

That process still required time.

The machinery used to manufacture special weapons was completely different from that used for mechs.

He would need to redesign the machines themselves.

Given the time constraints, Morin decided to finish everything within two days.

Traveling between worlds only cost twenty experience points, and he could even use points from other professions.

Even so, Morin preferred to be economical.

...

"What you're saying..."

Inside a room, a kind-looking old man spoke slowly.

"If it weren't you saying it, I wouldn't believe it at all."

"But it's the truth," Zhao Wei said respectfully.

He gestured toward the thick stack of documents on the table.

"You can have someone verify them."

"No need," the old man said, shaking his head as he gathered the documents.

"It would be ridiculous for us, as father and son, to do that."

"I'll submit this to him tomorrow. After that, you should stay here for now. I expect he'll want to ask you some detailed questions."

"And you," he added, "have things you need to handle yourself, don't you?"

"Yes," Zhao Wei replied.

"I want them to understand what it means when God is on my side."

"When luck comes, no one can stop it," the old man said calmly.

"But you also have to make sure no one steals it."

"Stay humble. Let Xiao Qin help you make decisions."

"Would they really go that far?" Zhao Wei frowned.

"How could they be so shameless over something like this?"

"They've already shown they're willing to abandon their homeland for profit," the old man said with a cold smile.

"Why wouldn't they harm a genius?"

"That old man might not," he added lightly.

"But his useless descendants? They might."

"..."

Zhao Wei's eyes narrowed.

"By the way," the old man said, remembering something, "what did that genius ask for?"

"One hundred million RMB," Zhao Wei replied.

"He said he wanted to... experience a sense of satisfaction."

His expression was still strange when he recalled Morin's words.

"But according to later monitoring, he didn't touch a single cent."

"It seems he really meant it."

"A sense of satisfaction..." The old man frowned for the first time.

He tapped his fingers lightly against his thigh.

Seeing this, Zhao Wei immediately fell silent, even slowing his breathing.

He knew this habit.

It meant the old man was thinking deeply.

"Forget it," the old man said after a moment, laughing and shaking his head.

"Young people are already hard to read. Geniuses even more so."

"Give him what he wants. And don't let anyone steal his credit."

"I don't need to remind you of that."

"I've already instructed Ah Guang," Zhao Wei said.

"Good."

"Knock, knock, knock."

There was a knock at the door.

"What is it?"

"Young master, the phone you asked us to watch for-it's ringing."

"I'll take it," Zhao Wei said, standing up.

"Go ahead," the old man replied.

Zhao Wei stepped out.

When he returned, the odd look on his face was no longer hidden.

Something had happened.

"What's wrong?" the old man asked.

"Ah Guang just called," Zhao Wei said.

"He said Morin plans to design two mechs in detail, along with a new alloy formula."

"The alloy should be far stronger than what's currently used."

"What did he ask for?" the old man frowned.

"Two billion," Zhao Wei replied.

"That covers the two mech designs and the alloy formula. There's also a separate patent fee."

"It's good that he asked for something," the old man said calmly.

"It would be a real problem if he didn't. Honestly, I think he asked for too little."

"There's one more thing," Zhao Wei added.

"He wants to designate the pilots for the mechs."

"Ah Guang said Morin's reason was that the mechs he designs can only be piloted by people he approves of."

"I see..." the old man nodded slowly.

"You have something to think about now."

"What is it?" Zhao Wei listened carefully.

"If one of those mechs is meant for him to pilot," the old man asked, staring straight at him,

"will you allow it?"

"..."

Zhao Wei fell silent.

"This..."

"Young people always want things," the old man said.

"Power. Money. Fame. They should have them."

"Even an old man like me wants to experience piloting a mech. How could a young man not?"

"And didn't you say that if he became a pilot, he'd likely be the strongest in history? Possibly even capable of solo piloting?"

"Yes," Zhao Wei nodded.

"I also think no one could truly perform a Pontus Bridge with him."

"A genius like him, with all those thoughts and memories... a normal person couldn't handle it."

"Then you should start preparing," the old man said.

"For the day he decides to step onto the battlefield himself."

"What will you do then?"

"This..." Zhao Wei had no answer.

It was an almost unsolvable problem.

Given Morin's identity and value, any choice would be wrong.

Agreeing would be unfair to the country.

Refusing would be unfair to Morin-and still unfair to the country.

The biggest issue was his age.

He was too young.

How could you speak to someone like that about national duty and sacrifice?

People might understand briefly.

But when you're young, passionate, and burning-

How could you care about such things?

"You don't need to decide now," the old man said seriously.

"I'm just telling you to think ahead."

"I'm not even sure he wants that. It's just a guess, based on experience."

"Every effort has a goal."

"I understand," Zhao Wei replied.

...

"One hundred percent synchronization on the first bridge test?"

"Yeah. That's insane."

"That's only happened a handful of times in history, right?"

"This technology was developed just a few years ago!"

"And millions have taken the neural bridge test. How many pairs synced perfectly on their first try?"

"That's true..."

"And weren't previous tests about similar behavior, speech, and personalities?"

"These two don't seem alike at all."

"They're completely different."

"Maybe it was just luck?"
