The Adjudicator holds a transcendent position within the High Table and can pass judgment on any affiliated organization, including the Continental Hotels!
In many ways, the Adjudicator represents the face of the High Table and the will of the High Table.
The blue and black gold coin in Morin's hand was taken from the Adjudicator that Winston had already killed with a gunshot. Adding the one he had already found when he let the previous Adjudicator go, he now had two in total.
Morin first compared them himself and found no difference in their numbering or details. He then asked Winston, and that was when he discovered a huge loophole in the High Table's management.
The blue and black gold coins that Adjudicators use to identify themselves have no special markings.
This meant that as long as his demeanor was convincing, he had no flaws in his appearance, and he used a mask to change his identity to a white European man, Morin could try to impersonate an Adjudicator!
Winston was also optimistic about Morin's plan. His exact words were:
"No one has ever impersonated an Adjudicator before for two reasons. First, it's nearly impossible to get your hands on one of these coins. Second, no one has the guts to do it. So if you're willing to try, you have a good chance of succeeding."
"Third, this method can get you in, but it won't get you out. Because of the Hawkeye organization, you'll be exposed in about half an hour!"
Morin decided to use this method.
While it was certainly thrilling to charge in and slaughter everyone, Morin preferred to infiltrate the enemy's ranks and make decisions from the inside rather than risking being bombarded by heavy firepower, which could lead to his demise or force him to leave this world prematurely.
Even the powerful Sun Wukong chose to go inside the Rakshasa's belly to cause trouble, instead of just poking her from the outside with his staff.
"Of course, Mr. Adjudicator," the receptionist took a deep breath, carefully examined the coin, and, after confirming it was exactly the same as the special coin for an Adjudicator that he remembered, he stood up.
"Please follow me."
Morin put the coin away and walked past everyone without a second glance, as if they didn't exist, and followed the receptionist toward his destination.
After Morin entered the elevator and it began to ascend, the assassins in the lobby let out a collective sigh of relief and began to whisper among themselves.
"Why do you think the Adjudicator is here at a time like this?"
"Did you notice? He never even looked at us. He was practically belittling us!"
"Belittling? You're giving yourself too much credit. Was that belittling? It was dismissiveness! He just ignored us!"
"I hope he keeps ignoring us. Adjudicators don't show up for no reason; they're here to deliver judgment! I hope he's a generous man and won't hold it against us that we suspected he was a Templar Knight..."
When the name "Templar Knights" was mentioned, the lobby fell silent for a moment, then the whispering started up again.
"Do you think the Templar Knights will actually come?"
"$2.2 billion, I'm a little tempted myself!"
"Tempted? Ha, aren't you afraid you won't live to spend it?"
"That's why I'm only tempted..."
Even assassins can be gossipy.
Among the assassins, several who hadn't said a word moved their eyes, stood up, and silently left the area.
They were members of the Hawkeye organization.
"Please, come in, Mr. Adjudicator." The receptionist bowed and invited Morin into the meeting room.
Morin walked in.
Although it was called a meeting room, it looked more like a gallery, filled with all kinds of antique artifacts.
A white-haired man stood with his back to the door, hands behind his back, staring at an artifact on the wall.
"Sir?" The receptionist came up to the man. "The Adjudicator has arrived."
"You may go out first, and remember to close the door," the man waved his hand, signaling for the receptionist to leave.
"...Yes?" The receptionist was a little confused. She felt that the man's attitude was a little off, but since he didn't say anything else, she turned and left, closing the meeting room door behind her.
"Every Continental Hotel has a meeting room like this to receive important guests, as well as... those who might have ill intentions," the man turned around and walked over to a transparent table, lightly brushing the glass with his fingers.
"A transparent table. It's only by negotiating across a table like this that you don't have to worry about the other person pulling out a gun from underneath it."
"..." Morin tilted his head slightly, then walked over to the other side of the table and faced the man.
"So, could you tell me, Mr. Adjudicator," the man looked Morin directly in the eye and asked.
"Thirty years ago, I became the owner of the Rome Continental Hotel, and today, thirty years later, you've come here... to pass judgment on me?"
"I've searched my conscience, and in these thirty years, I have not made a single mistake. I've always remained obedient to the High Table's leadership!"
"Or, do you want to transfer my position to someone else?"
Morin looked at the man, who seemed a little emotional, feeling a little speechless.
He had thought that the man's behavior was because he had guessed he was a fake Adjudicator.
It turns out he was just afraid of the Adjudicator's arrival?
If he wasn't afraid, why would he explain so much?
However, if that was the case...
Morin's eyes moved slightly, and he thought of a very interesting course of action.
He would be exposed, it was only a matter of time. From the moment he walked into the Continental Hotel, the Hawkeye organization in Rome had probably already started investigating him.
Naturally, they would eventually find out that Morin was not an Adjudicator.
And this information would be relayed to the relevant personnel of the High Table.
This was also one of the reasons no one had ever impersonated an Adjudicator the Hawkeye organization was very efficient. It wouldn't be long before the High Table personnel received this intelligence and realized that Morin was an impostor.
This meant that even if someone did manage to get a special Adjudicator coin and had the guts to go to a Continental Hotel or another organization and give orders, they would be exposed soon after!
However, all Morin wanted was to get into the Continental Hotel and get close to the hotel owner to make it easier for him to act.
And now... seeing how angry and fearful the owner of the Rome Continental Hotel was, a new idea suddenly popped into Morin's mind.
And so, the eyes of the owner of the Rome Continental Hotel, Gaius, slowly widened.
Across from him, Morin's face suddenly contorted into the smile of a Dragon King!
Such a comical expression on the face of someone with the status of an Adjudicator would, of course, shock him.
But the most terrifying thing wasn't that.
From Gaius's perspective, after the Adjudicator smiled, he raised his hand, grabbed his own face, and slowly began to peel it back!
A scene from a horror movie appeared in reality. Before Gaius could react, Morin had already completely torn off the realistic mask, revealing his true face underneath!
Seeing Morin's face, Gaius almost had a heart attack.
It wasn't because he was ugly and scary; Morin's face could definitely be called world-class handsome.
The reason for Gaius's panic was that he had seen this face in many documents, and he knew exactly who this face belonged to
The Templar Knight, Morin!
