Chapter 9 - "The village begins training… and the return of Chris."

That Morning — Ethan's Awakening

The morning light hit his face.

Ethan opened his eyes slowly—white ceiling, humming machines, and the faint beeping of monitors.

He blinked, confused.

Ethan (murmuring): "Where… am I? How did I get here?"

A familiar voice answered, half-laughing.

Simon: "You've been in hibernation, buddy."

Ethan : "Simon?! … How long have I been out?"

Simon: "Three days, maybe. How do you feel?"

Ethan : "My leg feels heavy… What about your arm? You were hurt too."

Simon: "It's fine. Healed fast, I guess. Still aches when I move it too hard."

Ethan : "So where are we? A hospital?"

Simon (grinning): "Nah. Welcome to your new home. This is our private treatment room."

Ethan (surprised): "Seriously?"

The door slid open—Daisy walked in, holding a medical tablet.

Daisy : "You're finally awake! "

Ethan : "Yeah… who are you?"

Daisy: "Doctor Daisy Hawk . How are you feeling?"

Ethan :" I'm Ethan Walker ...: "I'm fine except for my leg. It's so… heavy."

Simon (to Ethan): "Still haven't recognized anyone yet, huh?"

Ethan : "Only the ones from the plane."

Simon: "You'll get used to this place. Trust me."

Daisy stepped closer.

Daisy (to Ethan) : "Let me check your vitals."

Simon: "I'll be outside. If you need help walking or anything else, just call me."

Aitha: "Alright."

Simon stepped outside.

Sunlight poured over him, golden and clean. The air smelled of pine.

He inhaled deeply.

Simon (to himself): "Man… what a place."

Then—a horn sounded from the training hall.

Simon turned and started walking. People from the small settlement were gathering too.

He slipped inside from the back door. Rows of villagers stood facing Mosta, who paced like a drill sergeant.

Mosta (loudly):

" my nem's Mosta grant I'm Your new coach ..... From now on, everyone trains to fight—men, women, children, all of you.

We live in a world that sees us as a threat. Governments hunt our kind.

There's no safe place left.

Training isn't a choice anymore—it's survival."

He paced back and forth like a soldier, his boots echoing through the room.

Mosta:

"Only a few among us have powers.

That makes us vulnerable if the village is ever exposed."

He stopped, scanning the crowd with cold eyes.

Mosta:

"Some of you might still be mutants without knowing it yet… one, two, maybe more.

We'll find out through training."

At the back, Simon felt someone tap his shoulder—his sister, Hana.

Hana: "Oh, there you are! How's your arm?"

Simon: "Almost fine. Just hurts if I push it too hard."

Then, joking: "Don't tell me Khaled actually put Mosta in charge of training the villagers?"

Hana (smiling): "He did. Who else could handle it?"

Simon (teasing): "Yeah right, the old folks will drop dead in the first minute, and the rest right after the warm-up."

Hana laughed.

Hana: "He'll turn them into fighters. That'll take pressure off us—those with real powers."

Simon: "Maybe. But Mosta's used to training elites, not farmers. Stan would've been better."

Hana: "Stan's handling crops and food supplies."

Simon: "Right… oh, by the way, Ethan woke up this morning."

Hana: "Seriously? How is he?"

Simon: "No pain, just says his leg feels heavy."

Hana: "Can he walk?"

Simon: "Didn't check. Left him resting."

Just then, Khaled entered from the main doors as the crowd began leaving.

He pushed through the villagers until he reached Mosta.

Khaled: "How'd it go?"

Mosta: "Good. I explained why this matters. Haven't set a full schedule yet, though. I'll split them into groups—makes training easier."

Khaled: "Smart. Divide them by age too—it'll help with endurance levels."

Mosta: "Didn't think of that. Good idea."

Khaled: "When do you start?"

Mosta: "Tomorrow. I'll use the first day for grouping."

Simon and Hana approached.

Simon: "Hey guys."

Hana: "Hi."

Mosta: "The siblings! Great."

Khaled (to Simon): "You've healed fast."

Simon: "Yeah, can't wait to get back in action."

Hana (to Khaled): "Not quite—he still needs rest."

Simon: "What? No way."

Khaled: "Why not?"

Hana: "He said it still hurts when he uses strength."

Hana (to Simon): "Don't act tough. You're not fully recovered."

Khaled: "She's right. Take a few more days."

Mosta: "Yeah, kid. Don't make it worse."

Simon (grumbling): "Fine…"

He sighed, then changed the subject.

Simon: "So why the rush to train the whole village? Feels like an emergency."

Khaled froze for a second, thinking:

" Should I tell them about Chris?"

Before he could answer, Mosta cut in.

Mosta: "It's just precaution. The world's getting darker for people like us."

Khaled (nodding): "Exactly."

Then he added,

Khaled: "Oh—your friend left yesterday."

Simon: "Who?"

Khaled: "Boris. Went back to university."

Mosta to (Simon and Hana): "And you two? Heading out soon?"

Hana: "Maybe tomorrow."

Simon (to Hana) : "Let's wait a couple more days. You don't need to rush your first week."

Hana: "Maybe you're right."

Khaled to ( Simon and Hana ): "You staying the whole week? Boris said he'll only come back on weekends."

Simon: "We'll see."

Hana: "Everyone's got their own schedule."

Mosta (serious): "Just stay alert. Stick together. Don't draw attention."

Khaled (to Mosta): "Since you'll be busy with the villagers, I'll train the main team tomorrow."

Mosta: "Good. I'll join when I can."

Simon: "We'll join (He and his sister) too—on the days we're here."

Khaled: "Perfect. Let's not stay apart for long. We work best as a unit."

Mosta: "Agreed."

Hana: "Alright, I'll go pack my things."

Khaled: "See you later."

Moosta: "Take care."

The three—(Simon, Khaled, and Moosta)—left the hall, walking through the quiet village.

Simon: "How's Connor? Haven't seen him."

Khaled: "He and Almy had a fight."

Simon: "What? They just met!"

Mosta (to Khaled and Simon): "Who's that?"

Khaled( to Mosta): "One of the mutants we brought from Spain on the last mission."

Khaled (to Simon): "Almy says she doesn't trust him. Stan showed him the control room, and she freaked out—said we can't trust newcomers."

Simon (rolling eyes): "That's it? Come

on, Connor's a good guy."

Khaled: "Yeah, but apparently he

made a joke or something. Hurt her feelings. Ugh, I hate drama."

Mosta: "Let's hope it stays just drama. We don't need tension in the team."

They stopped in front of Simon's wooden cabin.

Simon: "Alright, see you guys later."

Khaled & Mosta: "Later."

Mosta walked off toward headquarters.

Mosta: "I'll check on the new patient."

Khaled: "Ethna ? Yeah, he's there."

Khaled stood in the middle of the village, gazing at the clear sky.

His thoughts drifted—

Chris.

Khaled (thinking): "He'll come back. I saw him around this time yesterday… maybe he's still there."

He turned toward the forest.

The trees swallowed him as he walked deeper, until he reached the clearing—an old, dead tree.

Khaled (to himself): "This is where we met yesterday."

A rustle. Then—Chris stepped out from behind the trees.

Khaled (smiling): "Knew you'd come back."

Chris: "And I knew you'd come looking for me."

Ethan has finally awakened! 💥

Meanwhile, Mosta announces the start of the village's combat training —

but Chris returns from the shadows…

Will his comeback bring peace, or unleash a new wave of chaos? 👀🔥
