"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 247: The Newcomer Tournament Begins
Recalling the past left Asia a little somber, but with Draconis Yi's arms around her, the melancholy faded fast. Surrounded by her friends, her life brimmed with happiness, and she couldn't help but feel grateful for the choice she'd made—to become one of Rias's peerage devils. Funny to think, it had been Draconis Yi who suggested it, back when fallen angels were still eyeing her Sacred Gear.
"I'm fine now…" Asia squeezed Draconis Yi tighter, her expression radiant with relief.
Diodora lingered nearby, eyes narrowed, a flicker of something dark passing through his gaze. He didn't let it show—he was smart enough to realize Draconis Yi wasn't someone to cross lightly. After all, this was the guy who'd nearly killed Zephyrdor in front of everyone. That kind of nerve was hard to ignore.
"Hehe, I'll take my leave. See you in the Rating Game." Diodora's smile was polite, but it didn't reach his eyes. He turned and strode out.
Draconis Yi watched him go, still comforting Asia. He'd already pegged Diodora as trouble the last time they'd met—the guy had radiated inexplicable hostility. Now it was obvious: Diodora wanted Asia. Maybe it was gratitude for her saving him once, maybe something else. Either way, Asia was his now, and anyone who tried to stake a claim would have to be taught a lesson. With any luck, someone would knock Diodora out of the tournament early. Otherwise, Draconis Yi would do it himself.
Preparation time slipped away, and soon it was showtime.
The entire group assembled at the stadium's center, a tidal wave of cheers crashing down from the stands. The host's voice boomed through the arena, brimming with theatrical energy.
"Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to the Newcomer Tournament! On the field before you are the brightest stars of the six great families and their peerages!"
It was all glitz and glamour—hosts, commentators, spotlights. The crowd roared with excitement, but not everyone on stage shared the mood.
"Zephyrdor, you've got guts showing your face here. Didn't expect you'd survive," Seekvaira sneered, her words sharp as ice.
Zephyrdor, who'd been "killed" by Draconis Yi just days ago, stood awkwardly, very much alive but a shadow of his former self. The audience assumed he'd been revived by Phoenix Tears, but the truth was, he'd lost his swagger. When Draconis Yi's gaze found him, Zephyrdor looked away, visibly cowed.
He wasn't the only one. Riser had been broken before him, and now Zephyrdor joined the ranks of those who'd learned to fear Draconis Yi. After all, this was a man who'd killed a family heir in front of the Maou and walked away without so much as a slap on the wrist. No one knew how he'd pulled it off. Maybe he was a Maou's secret relative. Maybe something more.
The host cleared his throat, trying to cut through the tension. "Alright, heirs, please step forward and draw lots for your matchups."
These weren't just any devils—they were the future rulers of the Underworld. Even Zephyrdor, tail thoroughly tucked, wasn't someone to underestimate.
Rias stepped forward, drew her lot, and glanced at the number—six.
After a quick tally, the host announced the matchups:
"Here are your battles! First match: Lady Seekvaira versus Lady Sona Sitri. Second match: Lord Sairaorg versus Lord Zephyrdor. Third match: Lord Diodora versus Lady Rias. Let the games begin!"
The stadium erupted—shouts, whistles, the kind of energy that made the air vibrate.
"Let the Rating Game Newcomer Tournament officially begin!"
Draconis Yi's eyes found Diodora across the field. So, fate had dealt them this hand after all. Someone was about to get the beating they deserved.
"Good luck, Sona," Rias said, turning to her friend with a warm smile.
Of the six teams, only Rias and Sona were still High-class devils. It wasn't lack of talent—just a matter of age. Give them another year, and they'd be Ultimate-class too. But for now, they'd have to fight uphill.
Sona's match against Seekvaira kicked off with tactical fireworks. Sona's strategy was razor-sharp, taking out several of Seekvaira's pieces. But in the end, raw power won out—Seekvaira's Ultimate-class strength was simply too much, and Sona had to bow out.
The gulf between High-class and Ultimate-class was wide. Not everyone could punch above their weight like Draconis Yi.
Still, the crowd loved it. Sona's popularity soared, and Seekvaira's presence—beauty and skill—kept the audience enthralled.
Next up: Sairaorg versus Zephyrdor.
It was a slaughter. Zephyrdor threw everything he had at Sairaorg, but Sairaorg barely broke a sweat, dispatching Zephyrdor's peerage and the King himself with brutal efficiency. The new generation's top seat was well-deserved.
But after this tournament, that title would belong to Draconis Yi—no doubt about it.
With the second match done, Rias stood tall, confidence radiating from her as she turned to her team.
"Alright, it's our turn!"
Draconis Yi rose, flanked by Akeno, Koneko, Asia, and Xenovia—four beautiful girls, each ready for battle. Light flared beneath their feet as the magic circle activated, and in a blink, all six vanished, reappearing in a special dimensional arena.
The real fight was about to begin.
