Chapter 55 - 《DXD: Transfer Student》Chapter 54: Should We Have a Baby?

When Mai Sakurajima stepped out of the bath, the first thing she saw was Draconis, sitting cross-legged in quiet meditation. His eyes were closed, and a pair of devil wings stretched wide behind him, their slow, rhythmic motion almost hypnotic.

For a moment, Mai was caught off guard. Seeing those wings in person was a reminder—he wasn't human, not really. He was a devil.

But he'd shattered all her old ideas about devils. The real thing wasn't monstrous or cruel, not the ugly, conniving creature she'd imagined. Draconis was gentle, playful, and—sometimes—almost too human.

She couldn't help but wonder: Could a devil and a human really make it all the way together?

Lost in thought, Mai didn't notice Draconis opening his eyes. He looked alert, energy radiating from him.

Draconis was honestly surprised at how much his magical power had grown. He could feel it—he was close to breaking through to mid-class devil. His combat ability had already rivaled most mid-class devils, but now his strength had jumped again.

That's the power of a faith contract, he thought. No wonder Rias and the others had been so thrilled—he'd landed an extraordinary contract partner.

He was pleased, but not satisfied. How could he be, with Rias's mysterious fiancé lurking in the background? Family-arranged, probably talented beyond belief. To someone like that, Draconis's current abilities were nothing.

But there was no way he'd let Rias be forced to marry someone she didn't love.

He needed more power. Maybe it was time to try training with Sacred Gear resonance—after Mai left, of course. No need to make her worry.

Decision made, Draconis turned to Mai. "Any other wishes, Mai?"

With the contract in place, he could constantly draw on the energy of her emotions and desires. But fulfilling specific wishes brought even greater rewards—he wasn't about to miss that opportunity.

Mai tightened her bathrobe, looking serene. "I don't really have any left. If I had to pick, I'd wish for my acting career to go even better…"

"That's already part of our contract—I'll always support you. I mean, any other kinds of wishes?"

Draconis smiled, gentle. "I'm your contract devil, after all. No wish is too much."

Mai's eyes softened, emotions shining through. "Then… my wish is for Draconis's wishes to come true."

It was so honest, so unfairly sweet, that Draconis was momentarily stunned. He collected himself and put on a teasing grin.

"Really? Well, my biggest wish right now… is to have a baby with Mai."

He expected a flustered reaction, but Mai was ready for him—completely composed.

"That'll have to wait until after we're married," she replied, cool as ever.

She knew him well by now. Draconis wasn't one to show his true feelings easily; most of the time, he covered them up with jokes or bravado. Mai had learned not to get flustered, or she'd end up dancing to his tune.

In other words, she'd predicted the cheeky comment before he even made it.

Draconis raised an eyebrow, refusing to give up. "Then let's get married?"

"Gotta build my career first."

"You're already a superstar."

Mai grinned. "Fine, then let's say I'll finish school first."

She tossed out conditions with a playful smile, clearly enjoying Draconis's helpless expression.

He groaned. "So I'll be waiting forever to have a baby with you?"

"Seems like it." Mai looked smug.

"Mai, you're the real devil here—a little devil," Draconis said, smiling.

He didn't press the topic further, just stood up. "Alright, I should get going."

Mai's eyes flickered with reluctance, though she didn't say it aloud.

Draconis wanted to stay longer, but his goal for the visit was complete, and he was itching to get back to training. Sometimes, to gain something, you had to give up something else.

He hid his reluctance behind a smile. "If you want me to stay overnight, I wouldn't say no."

"Take out the trash when you leave," Mai shot back, calm and merciless.

Draconis laughed—KO'd in one line. This woman… absolutely adorable.

On impulse, he stepped forward and pressed Mai down onto the sofa. Her sweet face was inches away, and he leaned in, capturing her lips in a slow, lingering kiss.

Mai struggled weakly, then surrendered, arms winding around his neck.

They kissed deeply, lost in each other, until five minutes had slipped by.

Finally, Draconis pulled away, breathless. "I'm going. If you need me, just summon me through the contract."

With that, he could teleport straight to her side.

"See you," Mai said, cheeks still flushed.

Draconis didn't linger. He headed home, intent on trying his new training. But before he could even get started, his phone rang—Rias.

"Come quick. Asia's in trouble," she said, straight to the point.

Draconis's eyes narrowed. "Where?"

"Shopping district intersection. She ran into a fallen angel. Don't worry, we're already there—Asia's fine, but the enemy's alerted their side."

Asia carried Rias's family mark, so she'd been able to contact Rias instantly. The high-class devil had teleported in right away.

Relieved, Draconis promised to hurry over.

Fallen angels… So it was those vultures after Asia's Sacred Gear again. Persistent bastards.

No time for taxis—he broke into a run, moving like a ghost through the night.
