It was still early, so Draconis caught the train, heading straight for his destination.

Mai Sakurajima hadn't summoned him, so all he could do was make his own way there. Someday, he'd evolve into a mid-class devil and finally get teleportation magic—he'd been jealous of that for ages. Having teleportation would be like owning a car: freedom, convenience, no more bugging Akeno for rides.

After a twenty-minute ride, Draconis hopped off and dialed Mai's number.

"Hello…?" The voice that answered wasn't Mai's—it was a woman he'd never heard before.

Draconis frowned. "Sorry, who is this? Why do you have Mai's phone?"

"Oh—right, I should introduce myself. I'm Hanawa Ryoko, Mai's new manager. She's filming a commercial right now, so I'm holding her phone."

"Got it. Is she almost done?"

"Almost. Maybe ten more minutes."

"Okay, thanks. I'll call back later."

"Uh? Oh… sure."

Ryoko stared at the call log, confused. The contact said "Draconis," with a note: "On call 24/7."

She blinked. Was Mai… a little mischievous? Giving this boy that kind of label? Their relationship must be pretty close.

On call 24/7? Could he be her boyfriend?

No way… Right? Someone as dazzling as Mai Sakurajima—surely not.

Still, that contact note nagged at her. Ryoko couldn't quite shake the suspicion.

Soon, Mai finished her shoot and walked out of the studio. Ryoko hurried over, handing her the phone.

"Mai, a boy named Draconis just called for you."

"Really? Got it, thanks." Mai's lips curled into a smile as she took the phone.

Ryoko caught the expression and felt another pang of curiosity. When she'd mentioned Draconis's name, Mai had lit up—just for a second.

But Mai was a pro. She smoothed her face, voice calm: "Ryoko-san, I'm done for the day. You should head home too—you've worked hard."

"Hehe, great! Want me to drive you?"

Mai shook her head, still smiling. "No need—I've got a few things to handle. I'll get home on my own."

She was already dialing as Ryoko said goodbye and left.

Mai's call rang once before Draconis picked up.

"Mai?"

"It's me. Where are you?" Mai asked, bag in hand as she left the building.

This wasn't her agency, but a big company that had shelled out for her comeback commercial—deep pockets, old partners.

"I'm by the izakaya."

"Let's meet at the pedestrian bridge."

Draconis agreed instantly. The sky was fading to dusk—the perfect time to walk Mai home.

Five minutes later, Draconis arrived first. He spotted her immediately—a striking figure gliding across the bridge.

Long, straight black hair. Impeccable proportions. A beautiful, composed face. Her presence radiated cool confidence—a true queen.

She was still dressed for work: tailored jacket, black stockings, high heels.

Wow.

Already tall and elegant, she looked every bit the mature professional. No one would guess she was a high schooler.

Draconis walked over, noticing the flawless, subtle makeup that highlighted her features. She looked like she'd stepped out of a painting—perfection, pure and simple.

He couldn't help but study her, and he wasn't alone. Pedestrians were already staring.

"Hey, isn't that Mai Sakurajima?"

"Whoa, it is! She's gorgeous… Should we sneak a photo?"

"Uh, maybe that's not cool…"

Draconis watched two guys ready their phones. He raised an eyebrow, snapped his fingers.

Snap!

Common sense alteration.

The guys blinked, suddenly baffled, staring at their phones like they'd forgotten why they'd pulled them out.

Mai saw it all, a faint smile touching her lips.

She'd known Draconis wouldn't let things get out of hand.

Usually, she just ignored that kind of trouble. It was annoying, but what could she do? If she pushed back, she'd get slammed online for "acting like a diva"—more hassle than it was worth.

But now, with her devil boyfriend around, those little headaches just vanished.

"Trying to sneak photos of my adorable girlfriend? Rude," Draconis said, dropping his hand as Mai approached.

Mai grinned playfully, latching onto his words. "Adorable, huh? How adorable?"

Draconis answered with mock seriousness. "Adorable like an atomic bomb going off."

Mai stared. "What kind of comparison is that?"

"The kind that means your cuteness is lethal."

"…You're ridiculous," she said, laughing despite herself. Her eyes sparkled as she shot him a sweet, exasperated look.

"What brings you here today?" She slipped her arm through his, natural as breathing.

Draconis felt the soft warmth against his side and tried not to look too pleased.

"Because I missed you," he said, smiling.

"Oh?" Mai raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "So you didn't miss me the last two days?"

"Of course I did. But today—I missed you especially much."

Perfect answer.

Mai's lips curled into a smile. "Alright, you pass."

Draconis chuckled, murmuring under his breath, "Long live Queen Mai."
