Sometimes, a single conversation can open doors you never knew existed. For Draconis, tonight felt like the start of something new.

He helped Asia settle in with his usual efficiency, dodging her lingering, grateful gaze as he slipped back home. The moment the door closed behind him, he dialed Rias to share what he'd discovered about Sacred Gear resonance.

Rias's reaction was immediate—a mixture of surprise and genuine concern.

"You figured it out this fast? I was planning to wait until you'd become a high-class devil before telling you."

Her voice softened, tinged with pride. "Your talent really is something special."

Draconis frowned. "Why wait?"

"Because it's dangerous, Draconis. That path is tough—even risky. If you try to force an evolution now, you could die. Once you reach high-class devil status, your survival odds go way up. Until then, stick with contracts—they're safe, and you'll get stronger."

She was looking out for him, no question. Rias wanted him powerful, but she'd never risk his life for it.

Yet Draconis had already stumbled onto this path on his own. Maybe some things were just meant to be.

"In short—resonating with your Sacred Gear can be done by sheer willpower, but it comes at a cost. Push too hard, and your body could break. Promise me you won't overdo it."

He nodded, a smile in his voice. "Got it. I'll be careful."

"Good. You're my favorite servant, you know. The best."

When the call ended, Draconis tried sensing his Sacred Gear again. Instantly, his magic surged—raw power, yes, but on the edge of losing control. He held on for a few seconds before wisely letting go, pain slicing through him like fire.

Even so, his magic felt just a little stronger.

Clearly, this method was as dangerous as Rias said. He could push himself, but at what cost? Slow and steady would have to do.

Maybe, he mused, Asia's healing could help him train safely in the future. A little risk, balanced by a little recovery...

He ran himself a hot bath and sank into the water, tension melting away. His thoughts drifted to the morning's encounter with Rias in this very bathroom—heat and longing, barely restrained. If not for a scrap of self-control, things would've gone much further.

It was surreal. Not long ago, none of this seemed possible—now his life was a whirlwind of the extraordinary. Tomorrow, he'd be off to find a Familiar. Who knew what adventures awaited?

Being a devil was anything but boring.

Drowsy in the tub, Draconis was jolted awake by his phone buzzing. He fished it from the rim, droplets trailing down his arm.

A message from Mai Sakurajima.

He hesitated before opening it. Mai was his girlfriend now, but he hadn't called or texted her once. Was she mad?

The message was simple—she'd switched agencies, with a link attached. She'd been busy these past few days. No hint of blame for his silence.

Curious, he tapped the link. It led to an interview—Mai's official comeback announcement.

In the ordinary life he'd helped her reclaim, Mai was stepping boldly toward her dreams. The press conference was packed, her name drawing crowds as always.

Just then, his phone rang—Mai calling.

He finished reading about her comeback and answered.

"Hey."

"I'm mad at you. What are you going to do about it?" Mai's voice was cool, a hint of irritation beneath the calm.

So she was upset, after all. Girlfriends really were a challenge.

"...Sorry?" Draconis ventured, cautious.

"It's fine," Mai replied, almost too quickly.

He chuckled. "That's it? So easy?"

Mai didn't miss a beat. "Why are you apologizing, exactly?"

That stumped him. "Wait—you're not mad at me?"

"Not really. But you must've done something, so even if I don't know what it is, I'll forgive you anyway."

Draconis blinked, thrown by her logic.

"I thought you were mad I hadn't called."

Mai paused, then her voice turned playful. "Now that you mention it, I guess I should be. But I didn't call my boyfriend either, so let's call it even."

Relief washed over him. Having Mai as a girlfriend was... honestly, pretty amazing.

"Mai, summon me. Right now."

"Why?"

"I want to fly over and hold you. And kiss you. A lot."

She went silent—maybe flustered—then regained her composure.

"In that case, I absolutely refuse to summon you."

"Just so you know, I'm in the bath."

"Then I definitely won't summon you." Mai shot back, quick as ever.

Draconis grinned, putting the phone on speaker and sinking his arms back into the water.

"So what are you actually mad about?"

Mai hesitated. "...I argued with my mom."

"Still not patched things up?"

She huffed, queenly as ever. "It's not that easy, you idiot. You wouldn't get it."

Draconis shrugged, unbothered. "Sorry—I don't have parents, so I really can't understand."

That gave her pause. The irritation faded.

"But you know," he added, "being able to argue, talk, even just see each other—that's a real mother-daughter relationship. Compared to before, you're in a much better place."

Mai was quiet, then let out a soft laugh. "Yeah. You're right."

"Mai, you're smiling?"

"Mhm. Talking to my devil boyfriend always cheers me up."

"Glad I could help. The honor's all mine."
