People shouldn't be too outstanding. Being too outstanding isn't always a good thing. Take Luke, for example. The words "promiscuous" and "Hongmen" have never been in his life's dictionary, yet the girls and his grandfather insist on giving him the best things. It would be rude not to accept.
"Luke, hurry up and tell us, how did the negotiations go?"
Luke took a drag from his cigarette. "Don't worry, it's all settled. I support my uncle as a candidate."
"What about Uncle Second?"
Luke chuckled. "I'm not against him either."
Danny looked puzzled. Supporting one side while not opposing the other sounded like he was playing both sides.
"Uncle is an elder. We shouldn't interfere in disputes between elders. Let them fight it out themselves. Danny, the future of Chinatown will be in your hands."
Danny was stunned, not reacting for a moment.
"In my hands? What do you mean? You want me to manage Chinatown?"
The last sentence was suddenly louder, his face filled with shock.
Luke nodded. "That's right, I want you to manage Chinatown and become the new Young Master Xiao!"
"No, absolutely not." Danny waved his hands repeatedly. "I never thought of taking your place. I... I don't have that ability at all."
"You have that ability, you just haven't discovered it yet."
"But..."
"Don't worry, everything is arranged. Tonight is your time to establish your authority. Remember, as a man, at critical moments, you must be ruthless."
Things happened too suddenly, and Danny was completely unprepared. The thought of such a large organization like Chinatown falling into his hands made his head spin. Suddenly, a flash of realization crossed his mind, and his expression immediately turned grim.
"My father forced you, didn't he? No, I'm going back right now. How could he do this?"
"Idiot!"
Luke gave him a knock on the head. "Can you use your brain for a bit? I talked with my uncle all afternoon. How could we only discuss such a small thing? This is a transaction, understand?"
"Transaction?"
Danny rubbed his forehead, very confused. "What transaction?"
"The branch halls in the eastern states and the connections in both the political and business circles go to me; Chinatown goes to you."
"Me?"
"Yes, you."
"Why me?"
"Do you even need to ask? You're a member of the Xiao family, the old man's grandson, my uncle's son, my cousin. Besides you, there's no one else."
"But..."
Luke raised his hand, not letting him continue. "Don't feel too burdened. This is a joint decision between my uncle and me. And don't resent it, this transaction is a win-win for both my uncle and me." He paused, then explained,
"My future development center is the metropolis. I won't be returning to Binhai City for a while. For safety reasons, I need a group of subordinates to help me handle some inconvenient matters. The Hongmen branch halls are the best choice. As for my uncle, his goal is to be the next chairman. He doesn't lack connections or prestige; what he lacks is financial and material resources. The rich and prosperous Chinatown is the best answer for him."
"We're exchanging, each taking what we need, understand?"
Danny fell silent.
He generally understood the process, but somehow, he felt a little uncomfortable. His boss and his father had arranged his future clearly without asking for his opinion.
He was caught in the middle, like a puppet on strings.
"Alright, don't overthink it."
Luke patted his shoulder. "No matter the cause of this, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you. There are only three male descendants in the Xiao family in this generation: you, me, and Billy. Billy and I are focused on business and aren't interested in the gang. The Xiao family's position in the Hongmen can only be inherited by you. Chinatown is just the beginning. I really look forward to seeing you sitting in the chairman's seat of the Hongmen one day."
"Can I... can I really do it?"
"What's there to not do? You've been doing well before."
"But..."
"No more 'buts.' How many 'buts' have you said already?"
Luke took out a stack of documents and tossed them over. "All the secrets of Chinatown are in there. Read them carefully, remember them well. My uncle and I have arranged everything for tonight. When it's time to establish your authority, remember, be ruthless! You must be ruthless, don't be soft-hearted, and don't hesitate. These are the basic qualities of a boss."
Danny nodded, opened the folder, and carefully read through it with the help of the car's interior light.
He was only twenty-one, and he was about to become the boss of Chinatown, leading hundreds of people. The thought alone made him anxious, but then he remembered how Luke, at ten years old, had intimidated everyone, scaring the various faction leaders into silence. His mood became less tense.
They were all family, all surnamed Xiao. Even if he wasn't as good as Luke, he couldn't be too far off.
Danny took a deep breath, his eyes gaining a hint of coldness.
The BMW weaved through the city, finally stopping in front of a secluded clubhouse.
Three people stood at the entrance of the clubhouse. The most noticeable was the young man with a buzz cut on the left. He looked to be only twenty-five or twenty-six, at least 1.9 meters tall, and extremely well-built, especially the two bulging muscles on his chest, enough to make most women blush.
The young man's name was Wang Hu, nicknamed "Tiger Lord." He had practiced Bajiquan since childhood and was known by everyone in the underground boxing scene of Binhai City.
Next to him was a scruffy-looking street kid. Although he wore a suit and tie, he didn't button it, exposing his skinny abdomen to the air. A cold breeze made goosebumps appear all over him.
The street kid's surname was Wu, and his name was Tony. His ancestry was Vietnamese, and it was rumored that he was a descendant of Wu Sangui, though he himself didn't believe such things. His combat power was only 0.5, but he possessed extremely rare psychic abilities. He once tried to toy with Luke using his superpowers but, after being hung from a tree and sun-dried for three days by Luke, he obediently followed him, serving tea and water, and occasionally doing some prisoner interrogations.
Among the three, the most striking in appearance was Dior Clay on the right, who had Chinese, French, and Spanish blood. His almost neutral, handsome face was enough to charm most naive young girls, but unfortunately, he was a pervert who had no interest in women. He enjoyed two things most in life: first, killing people with a scalpel; second, dissecting with a watermelon knife.
Due to his peculiar habits, he was out of place with the other two.
Seeing the BMW, the three hurried over. Tony Wu wiped the corner of his eye, which had no tears, and his voice was mournful and pathetic,
"Boss! I've missed you so much. I heard you were coming back and haven't slept well for three days straight. This morning, I almost had a wet dream."
Wang Hu: "..."
He subtly moved two steps to the side and shouted loudly,
"Boss! You're finally back!"
Dior was a quiet person and simply nodded,
"Young Master!"
Luke laughed as he walked over, punched Wang Hu's muscular chest, then turned and kicked Tony's skinny butt, and finally patted Dior's shoulder.
"Very good, the chest muscles are still the same, the butt is still the same, the face is still the same. That's great, truly great."
"Let's go, tonight, we won't stop until we're drunk."
The four walked into the clubhouse arm in arm, while Danny lagged behind, looking at the crooked row of Chinese characters above. He took a deep breath and strode inside.
