Chapter 73 - Furious! She’s Just a Mutant Child Who Wants to Live!

That day, Hank and Charles suddenly appeared at Chen Xi's villa gate, both of them looking extremely anxious.

"What's wrong? Did something happen?"

Jean Grey's heart skipped a beat — she suddenly had a bad feeling. Perhaps the crisis Chen Xi had warned about was already unfolding.

"Yes," Charles said gravely, nodding. "Outside, countless robots have suddenly appeared and are capturing mutants. Their strength is overwhelming."

Ever since he began his career, Charles had never felt such an intense sense of danger — not even the Black King had ever given him such a feeling of doom.

He had a terrible premonition — that after this crisis, mutants might be reduced to one-tenth of their number. Even if they somehow survived, it would be a miserable victory.

At that moment, Hank took out his phone and showed them a video.

In the footage, sentinel robots could be clearly seen identifying and mercilessly slaughtering mutants.

There was no room for resistance — the mutants were killed instantly!

Watching their own kind fall in droves, Jean Grey's emotions exploded. And when Jean lost control, she was the most dangerous of all.

"Jean!!"

Charles immediately called out to her before she lost herself completely — he couldn't afford another incident like before.

"Sorry… I just… couldn't control my emotions."

Jean snapped back to awareness and whispered an apology.

"Sigh, it's not your fault," Charles said softly, his face full of grief. "Anyone would be shaken after witnessing such a massacre."

He had spent half his life fighting for the future of mutants — and now, that dream was collapsing before his eyes.

"My love, what should we do?"

Jean looked helplessly at Chen Xi. Seeing the pain in her eyes, he felt his heart ache as well. Gently, he said, "Right now, what we must do is unite every force that can be united to fight against the Sentinels."

"If mutant power remains scattered, we'll be crushed one by one. We must stand together."

"Why are there so many Sentinels?" Wanda asked softly. "Aren't they expensive to build?"

"No matter how expensive they are," Chen Xi replied, "it doesn't compare to their determination to wipe mutants out. Besides, each Sentinel only costs about a million dollars."

"What? That cheap?"

Hank's eyes went wide — he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"Then doesn't that mean the military can build as many Sentinels as they want, as long as they have time?"

Charles was equally stunned. He had no doubt about just how wealthy Magneto's enemies were.

"How do you even know that?" Jean asked, surprised. "That kind of information should be top-secret."

"Haha, did you forget? I know everything," Chen Xi said vaguely, brushing off the question.

"No matter the cost, I still think we need to gather the mutants as soon as possible," Chen Xi continued.

"Alright. I'll handle it right away," Charles said solemnly. Then he looked Chen Xi in the eyes and pleaded, "But please, Mr. Chen Xi — when the time comes, help us. Please… save those poor children."

Chen Xi saw the sincerity and compassion in Charles's eyes.

"Don't worry," he said firmly. "I'll take care of it."

He gave his word. No matter what, he would help the mutants achieve true freedom — something he had long desired.

"Thank you! Thank you! On behalf of all mutants, I thank you!"

Overcome with emotion, Charles clasped Chen Xi's hands tightly. He knew just how powerful Chen Xi was.

"Charles, don't be so formal," Chen Xi chuckled, patting his arm. "I'm just a peace-loving man. I hate seeing war."

Wanda nearly rolled her eyes out of her skull. This guy — talking about peace? Really?

At that moment, the streets were filled with patrolling Sentinels.

And when ordinary people saw them, they completely lost it.

"F**k!! Get out of here! Why are we being told to go home?!"

"Freedom! Our lives belong to us!"

"We're human beings! Why should we give way to machines?!"

"Are these robots trying to take over the world?!"

Crowds gathered in the streets, shouting for freedom as if they'd stepped into a real-life movie.

But no matter how loud they screamed, it didn't matter — Sentinels had no emotions.

Then, all at once, the Sentinels turned their heads toward a nearby trash can.

"Mutant gene detected. Commencing termination protocol."

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

In an instant, over a dozen Sentinels rushed toward the trash can, surrounding a little girl who had been collecting bottles.

Their red eyes flashed as they scanned her again and again. Then one raised its massive hand — which morphed into a gleaming blade — and thrust downward.

The little girl's dirty, pale face froze in terror. Her wide, innocent eyes filled with confusion and fear.

"No!!"

"Oh my God!! She's just a poor child!"

"Monsters! You heartless monsters!!"

"Damn you all!!"

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The crowd — already on edge — exploded with fury. Dozens of people drew handguns and fired wildly at the Sentinels.

Bullets rained down like a storm — they refused to let those machines harm a defenseless child.

But the bullets bounced off harmlessly. Not a single dent appeared on the Sentinels' armor.

People stared in disbelief — what were these things made of?!

The Sentinels ignored the humans. After a brief pause, they resumed their mission.

The little girl fell to the ground, terrified. The bottles she had gathered spilled across the pavement. She didn't understand — why were they trying to kill her?

"No! Please don't kill me!" she cried, tears streaming down her face. "If I die, no one will take care of my sister! Please, I'm begging you!"

But the Sentinels had no hearts — only orders.

Whoosh!

The crowd kept firing desperately, but there were too many Sentinels. They were forced back, helpless.

The little girl kept crawling backward, her face pale with terror — the sight broke countless hearts.

"Striker… you truly are a monster."

Then suddenly — the entire world froze. Time stopped.

Only a deep sigh echoed through the stillness, as though the heavens themselves lamented.

The air cracked like shattered glass, and from the broken space, Chen Xi stepped out — descending like a god walking among mortals.
