Jean Grey still wanted to go back to the mutant school, but Chen Xi firmly kept her at home and wouldn't let her go out. The world was so chaotic; perhaps this place was the last safe haven.
He didn't want to put her in a dangerous situation. Who knew if she'd get triggered and unleash the Phoenix Force...
If the Phoenix Force went wild and annihilated Charles, Storm, and the others, wouldn't that be a disaster?
A week later.
In a secret base in Washington, D.C., a massive conference room was filled with the highest echelons of the U.S. government. The current state of the world forced them to tread cautiously and pool their collective wisdom.
"Mr. President," a middle-aged man suddenly proposed, "I suggest we first stabilize the public and then throw all the personnel from the military's laboratories under the bus."
"I don't agree. If we do this, aren't we just caving to the mutants? What about the nation's prestige?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, the military representatives immediately objected. They were different from the politicians; they were much more hardline.
"Heh, Mr. Wells, how many military officers, big and small, have been assassinated recently? Not a hundred, but eighty at least, right?"
"So, I'd like to ask, where's the prestige then?"
Someone else chimed in, mocking them. Everything was the military's fault. If they hadn't been conducting those idiotic experiments, would such a serious incident have even happened?
"You… you're just talking nonsense! Mutants are elusive, hiding among ordinary people. Are we supposed to flatten New York with a nuke?"
The military representative retorted angrily, feeling utterly stifled these past few days. Now they had to endure this rubbish?
"Alright, alright, this isn't a time for arguing. Arguing won't solve anything. We can only stabilize the public for now."
The President rapped on the table, cutting short their bickering. His meaning was clear: whoever was responsible would take the blame.
"Colonel Stryker, you will be held accountable for your actions."
The President glanced at Stryker, who was being held in the defendant's seat.
However, Stryker sneered, surveying the crowd.
"I thought you had some clever ideas. It's the same old charade. How tragic! Tragic!"
The faces of those present darkened at the mockery. This guy was still speaking arrogantly even in the face of death.
"Heh, the main culprit dares to speak so boldly. What brilliant insights do you have?" someone in the hall jeered.
"I wouldn't call it insight, but I can eliminate mutants."
Stryker gave him a dismissive glance and said lightly.
"Hahaha, that's hilarious, you're going to eliminate mutants? Are you going to bomb the entire US?"
The man burst out laughing, as if he'd heard the funniest joke in the world, and the others joined in, jeering loudly.
"Ignorance is bliss, I have a plan, Sentinel Robots can eliminate mutants!"
Stryker's words shocked everyone present, instantly silencing the room. Memories long buried began to resurface.
The Sentinel Robots plan had been shelved for thirty years. It was a major secret. Those with seniority had participated in it, and even those who hadn't were aware of it given their positions.
The unprecedented Sentinel Robots plan had been incredibly promising at first. No one knew why it was abandoned, only a few knew the secret. Sadly, those few had taken the secret with them when they left this world as time passed.
Bolivar Trask, the father of the Sentinels, also left this world with a combination of resentment, wasted years, and regret.
But how could they not be shocked that Stryker was bringing up the Sentinel Robot project again?
Someone exclaimed, "I remember! You're Bolivar's student!"
"What? He's Bolivar's student?"
"That's right, that's it! I remember now."
"Oh my god, so Stryker is actually Bolivar's student? That's unbelievable."
The others present immediately started whispering amongst themselves, none of them expecting Bolivar to have a successor.
At this moment, Stryker proudly declared, "For thirty years, I've been researching Sentinel Robots, all to eliminate mutants, and other such anomalies. The Earth belongs to us humans!"
"Gentlemen! Blind compromise is not the future. War has arrived! We must fight fire with fire! Blood for blood!"
Stryker's impassioned cry fell on deaf ears. Everyone present were old hands, too savvy to simply take his word for it.
The President rapped on the table, then looked up at him with a serious expression. "The Sentinel Robots had major flaws back then. Their combat strength was far inferior to that of mutants. What gives you the confidence to claim you can eliminate mutants?"
"Very well, Mr. President, allow me to demonstrate the latest version of the Sentinel Robots and their combat capabilities."
Stryker's confidence was evident in his smile.
"Alright!"
The President didn't waste any time, immediately allowing Stryker to show them.
Why was Stryker so confident? He'd only just obtained Mystique's blood, according to the original plot.
It would take at least another decade to create Sentinel Robots capable of bringing about the downfall of mutants. So, for now, he was incapable of building them.
But the thing was, he could manufacture Sentinel Robots. This was all thanks to the Time Variance Authority, who had detected a change in the Sacred Timeline, altering the future of mutants.
So they immediately dispatched Stryker from another universe to find the Stryker of this universe, bringing with him the prototype and a complete set of technology and production lines.
This was how Stryker had his moment to show off. As he demonstrated, the many big shots present were already stunned by the invincible Sentinel Robots on display, their scalps tingling…
Stryker was very pleased with their expressions and began to boast:
"Gentlemen, our Sentinel Robot technology is decades ahead of its time. Its entire body contains no metal, so it's unsolvable for Magneto."
"And Sentinel Robots can copy mutant abilities and share and retain them mutually. In response to different abilities, they can adapt to the situation."
As soon as he said this, the big shots, already in shock, were once again stunned by Stryker's words, speechless for a long time.
Was this considered mass-producing invincible mutants? They knew that mutants at most had one or two mutant abilities!
Could Sentinel Robots really be this terrifying? Were these robots something humans could even create?
"How can we control such a weapon of mass destruction? If such a terrifying entity turned against humanity, would we even survive?"
Someone voiced their deep concern at that moment. Whether or not robots could be controlled by humans was an eternal question.
"Yes, if these robots are really like what they show in the movies, wouldn't humanity be on the verge of destruction?"
"I don't think these Sentinel Robots are a good idea. We can't afford this kind of unknown danger."
"Agreed! This is simply gambling with the future. Do you really expect a group of robots to have a conscience?"
