Chapter 4 - Raven 4

Raven Ignored annoyance at his double and focus on his surroundings with all his senses.

"Who's here?"

He began to move slowly toward the source of the voice, ready for whatever might happen.

Raven was now close to the tree the voice had come from, but he saw nothing behind it.

"Are you mistaken?"

"Sigh! Behind you, you idiot."

Raven's instincts began to warn him of something dangerous approaching, so he leapt to the side quickly.

Swoooosh!

He lost his balance and fell to the ground hard, but he didn't care — he looked at the spot where he had been standing a moment before.

There, stood a man, or a humanoid being, holding a large ancient sword stuck in the ground from its previous swing.

He had strange blue skin, peeling in several places, short white hair, and his eye sockets were empty of eyes; instead they contained two glowing blue flames.

When Raven's dark purple eyes met the place where the creature's eyes should have been, he felt as if he were staring into an abyss.

A coldness spread from nowhere, sending chills through Raven's body.

His heartbeats quickened, and his breaths grew heavier with every inhale.

"What the hell is that?"

"Yeah — what is that?"

Even his double looked on with curiosity at this strange being he had never seen before.

Screech! Screech!

An annoying sound began to come from the armor on the strange creature's body as he pulled his sword from the ground and stood at full height, staring at Raven.

"Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!"

The monster's scream was so loud Raven shut his ears because he felt they might tear from the volume.

After a few seconds the beast stopped screaming and stood motionless in place, not moving at all.

"What's wrong with him?"

Silence filled the forest; there was no sound except for the gentle wind.

Doom! Doom!

Suddenly, the ground beneath Raven's feet trembled slightly and he heard a sound like footsteps at a close distance.

Doom! Doom!

The sound intensified quickly until he felt it was only a few meters away from him.

"Hey, you idiot, I think you better start running now."

"Huh? Why?"

Raven turned his head to look back at the source of the sound, but his body froze when he saw the sight.

Dozens of blue-skinned creatures stood gathered, their eyes greedily fixed on him.

"Damn my luck."

Raven tightened his muscles and began to run as fast as he could, distancing himself from those creatures that wanted his life.

Doom! Doom!

Although they were slower than him, they were still close behind, pursuing him.

"Hah, hah, damn! Damn! What the hell is happening? What did that strange girl do?"

Raven felt like he was in a dream and would wake up at any moment.

Just a few minutes earlier he had been in Drago's warehouse, surrounded by police on every side.

And now he was running in a forest chased by creatures that existed only in fairy tales.

As Raven kept running at top speed, he spotted in the corner of his eye a small-ish hill with an opening.

He changed direction and ran toward it.

He entered, and darkness surrounded him from all sides, making him not know where he was heading.

"Mor, guide me."

"Why should I do that?"

"For God's sake, this is not the right time."

"Yes, yes, go right."

Raven ran in the direction Mor told him, but.

Boom!

He collided face-first with a stone wall and fell to the ground, feeling dizzy and warm blood trickling from his nose.

"I meant my right, it's your left."

"Seriously?"

Raven got to his feet quickly and went left, and this time he didn't run into any wall.

"Wait, there's a big stone on your left three meters ahead — roll it to close the path behind you."

Raven stopped running and took a breath for a second before moving toward the stone Mor had mentioned.

Once he found it, he planted his feet, grit his teeth, and began to push it with all his strength.

"Ughhhh, it's so heavy!"

"Push, you idiot, they're here."

Indeed, Raven could see the glowing eyes of the strange creatures in the darkness approaching with every passing second.

He inhaled deeply and began to push the stone again.

Crank! Crank!

Finally, the large stone shifted and closed the passage, preventing the strange creatures from reaching him.

"Hah, hah."

Raven collapsed onto the ground, his chest heaving rapidly.

He leaned against the stone and tried to steady his breathing, calming the heart that had been about to burst from his chest from the force of his pulse.

"Man, that was fun."

Mor said this as he stood beside him with his arms crossed and a faint smile on his face.

"Your definition of fun needs reconsideration."

"This is better than living my boring life like you do."

Mor sat beside him and closed his eyes, appearing lost in thought.

"Hey, you idiot, why do you keep living? I don't see any reason for you to continue. You have no family, no home to return to after this is over — why are you so determined to stay alive?"

Mor broke the silence hanging over them and spoke to Raven, who listened to him calmly.

A wide smile crossed Raven's face and he opened his mouth.

"Mor, I have a thousand reasons to keep going."

"And what are those thousand reasons?"

"I live to take another breath, I live to hear another sound, I live to eat delicious food, I live to see more in this life."

He turned to the side where Mor sat, still wearing that silly grin on his face.

"And even if I didn't have a reason to keep living, I would create one so I could continue, and if I could not, I would live without a reason."

"And what's the point of all that when you will die in the end?"

"Yes, you're right, I will die, and everyone will die too, but I will keep fighting. I will fight until the last day of my life, and when Death knocks on my door, I will fight him too, until I finally fall while fighting."
