Of course Elys was teasing, she only wanted to provoke me a little, in a way that was kind of cute. But I wasn't really in the mood for something like that.
"Of course not, I mean splitting the house, but I need 10 coins from each of you, then the house will be yours, we'll only need some mutual contribution agreements for food and for its maintenance. What do you think?"
"I accept, don't worry about the others, this is a great deal," she seemed happy, even with my serious answer.
Elys sat down and ordered something to eat, the restaurant didn't object to serving her, they usually avoided selling meals to people who weren't staying there, but due to the withdrawal of many guests, serving meals to anyone who could pay was the best thing to do.
"This is a disaster, the Capital could soon collapse, since many people are leaving and commerce has plummeted."
"The price of monster corpses will fall too, everything is crazy, collection and escort missions will be the only ones left. At least that's what the other adventurers are thinking."
"There's going to be fights over missions," I said while taking a sip of juice.
"Exactly, that happened in the past, as far as I know, but it was a long time ago and I don't know what was done to solve the problem."
"Did an attack of monsters like this happen?"
"No, just disputes over missions, but it was many years ago and it would hardly happen again. I mean, there wasn't a specific reason back then, now there is and it could complicate the whole process again."
She was right, maybe no one had predicted that something like this could happen, nor did they expect some strange event to occur and make the whole Capital vulnerable in such a short time.
"Where did you hear that story?" I asked.
"To be honest, I have no idea, it was a long time ago, I didn't actually hear the story, I only always heard someone saying how things are easier now, since we are no longer living in an environment of pure competition. Even though there's rivalry, there's a lot of respect, and plenty of missions to choose from."
Maybe that has no relation.
We kept talking, I still needed to pick up the house key, so I wouldn't be able to show it to Elys or to the others. Which was bad.
The Academy still hadn't released the list of people who passed, nor any other notice, maybe even that could collapse, it wouldn't be hard to destabilize the Capital even more.
"You're very quiet," Elys said to Tsukuyomi.
"Sorry, I just didn't feel I could contribute to the conversation, next time I'll try to say something."
She was serious and that was good, but it bothered me, it was as if she had no emotion. No, she had emotion, but she showed little. For a goddess that made a lot of sense, the boredom of everyday life is bad, even more so for someone who has a mystical existence.
But I still had some doubts, I believed her, but at the same time I accepted it too easily, it was as if I wanted to believe her story. Or was it some ability she had?
The Capital was calmer, it had already been two days since another attack had occurred, everything was calm. That was good and strange, but everyone remained alert to a possible new attack.
It became common to see some groups of children training with swords in the streets, everyone was scared, not knowing whether it was over or whether we would still have new attacks was damaging some people's sleep. Living in fear is one of the worst things, my people lived like that, everyone feared attacks from humans. We attacked too, but our attacks were more "human," if I can call them that.
Getting stronger was what everyone wanted, not just strength itself, they wanted to become stronger to feel more secure.
A man wearing a lab coat passed by me, he was being escorted by some guards. He managed to distract me, it was hard not to look at him.
One of the court mages was walking through the Castle, she approached Silas.
"I have news," she said excitedly.
"Shouldn't the King be the first to be notified?"
"He already knows, that's why I came here."
"All right, tell me what you discovered?"
She opened two scrolls in the air, they remained open and floating.
"The crystals were created, they look like the crystals we bought some years ago, 34 years ago to be exact. We were at war with Silverhold, the crystals were bought from the Countries free of Lys, they were made to improve healing abilities and to increase the damage of certain types of specific spells, but they caused some harm to the user and we stopped using them. We don't know if the crystals are still being produced, or if they are from that time. The problem may be bigger than we thought."
Silas read the scrolls.
"Is there anything that proves they are the same crystals?"
"Not exactly, but the whole description and the reproduction of the tests prove that they are the same, or similar," she had no doubt, she believed they were the same crystals. This was complicated.
"We can't formally accuse, that would start a new war, now with a country better prepared than ours, if we consider our wear. At the same time we can't let this happen without retaliating. It's very complex. We need a meeting with the fifteen generals."
"His Majesty already took care of that, he has already ordered the fifteen to meet, they will all arrive soon. Besides them, all the court mages and..."
"Jade?"
"Yes, she's coming too."
Silas changed expression, but he didn't complain about her coming, he only showed displeasure.
I was trying to sleep, but Tsukuyomi wouldn't let me, she managed to make me get out of bed and follow her to some place I didn't know.
"It's dangerous to go into the forest alone," I said trying to convince her to turn back, but I myself had already been convinced to go with her.
After two hours walking for no reason, she stopped me.
"The sound is coming from that place," she said while pointing to the side.
"Sound?"
"Can't you hear those horns?"
"I don't hear anything," apart from some insects, the forest was calm, perfect for sleeping. That is, if it weren't for the monsters, who must have been sleeping. They were doing what I should have been doing too.
"Your hearing is bad, wait a moment," she placed both hands on my head, I felt as if she were using some magic of energy transfer. "Now can you hear?"
"Yes, now I can hear a horn, it sounds like the one I heard a few days ago."
"That's good, now let's find out what it is, since I've been able to hear this sound from the inn, even closer the sound doesn't seem to have changed."
So that was the reason she woke me and brought me here, but she could have been a little more informative.
"What do you want to do?" I asked.
"I want to know who is making it and ask them to stop, this sound is bothering me."
I kept following behind her, she walked quickly and I made an effort to keep up the pace of walking.
We reached a cabin, it seemed to be new, which was strange. Stranger still was the cabin being in the middle of the forest and still standing.
Tsukuyomi approached the cabin, she knocked on the door and the horn stopped, then a sound of someone opening a window or door was heard, the creak of the wood was loud.
"I just want to talk," she said, but a man was running into the forest.
We entered the cabin, the horn was on top of a table, there was only a table, a chair, a bed and a chest with supplies. It didn't seem to be a place where someone lived, was it just a traveler? I didn't know the answer.
"I'll take the horn," she said as she grabbed it.
"Are we going to steal?"
"Yes, better than me having to hear that sound again."
We returned to the Capital, it was already dawn, I lost an entire night's sleep, but at least now maybe I can sleep again.
But I hated having to sleep during the day, sleep didn't seem the same, I always woke up sore and tired. Besides a little angry, I really hated sleeping in the afternoon.
Tsukuyomi put the horn to her mouth and blew, within a few minutes a horde of goblins came toward us, but they didn't attack.
"We need to attack," I emphasized the word "attack," the goblins began to strike a tree. "What are they doing?"
"They are attacking, right after you spoke. Stop that," they stopped as soon as she said it.
"Can this horn control the monsters?"
"It seems so, indeed."
So that must have been the horn I heard playing that night, somehow it can control the monsters. That in the wrong hands can be very dangerous.
"Kill yourselves!"
They killed themselves, and that was not very pleasant to watch. I should have given another order, maybe a more entertaining one to watch.
"We need to report this to my father."
