Justin flew around the area to see if he could find the vehicle that Amethyst was in; he even tried listening out for her voice or any muffled sounds she might make but he didn't hear a thing, which probably meant she was unconscious. Justin realized that he had no choice but to go and tell Director Stone what happened; so Justin took the unconscious Otto with him to the A.D.A base. When he arrived, he dropped Otto at Director Stone's and his mother's feet.
"Otto?, you actually managed to capture him, nice work." Director Stone praised him.
"But how did you manage to find him?" asked Sarah.
Sarah noticed that some thing was really wrong from seeing the expression on Justin's face.
"Justin… what's wrong?" Sarah asked.
"It's Amethyst." Justin replied in a sad tone as Director Stone's eyebrows raised in panic.
Justin began explaining to them what had happened, while Director Stone stayed silent during the explanation due to the shock.
"Jayce?…Jayce!" Sarah exclaimed, trying to get his attention since he looked liked he was in some kind of trance, not saying anything and looking at Otto on the ground still unconscious.
His silence didn't last long since he started yelling at Otto to give up his daughter's whereabouts while kicking him in his gut.
Otto began coughing as a result of the kicks he was receiving in his stomach.
"Well that's one way to wake someone up." Justin spoke sarcastically though still concerned about Amethyst .
Director Stone looked at him most upset following what he said.
"Sorry, I have a tendency to make bad jokes in tense situations." said Justin avoiding eye contact with Director Stone.
Director Stone sighed.
"Take him in for interrogation." Director Stone instructed one of the agents.
They confiscated his cybernetic arm before taking him to the interrogation room. A few minutes later, Director Stone walked through the door followed by Sarah wearing the same suit and mask she was wearing when she rescued Justin after he was kidnapped a while back.
"I take it you're going to torture me." Otto assumed when he saw the person that cut off his arm.
"You better hope that's all we do to you." Director Stone replied in a menacing tone.
"You'd better tell us what we want to know, if you want to keep your other arm that is." Sarah spoke in a disguised voice.
"How did you even know about her?" asked Director Stone since he did his best to keep her existence under wraps which kept her safe until now.
"Oh, you'd be surprised how much we know, and if you're planning on using your powers on my mind to find out where she is, it wont work, cause even I don't know where they took her." Otto said with a grin on his face.
There was a moment of silence as Sarah and Director Stone looked at each other wondering how he knew about his powers.
"How does he know about his powers?" Justin asked Jones as they were both standing on the other side of the glass listening to the interrogation.
"I don't know, the only people that know about his abilities are in these walls,…..which means that there's a traitor in our midst." said Jones unaware of the mini drones that were planted.
As Jones came to this realization, Sarah and Director Stone were also thinking the same thing.
"Where are you going?" asked Jones.
"I'm gonna fly around and put my ears to good use, I can't stand around doing nothing." said Justin in frustration.
"Ok, ill keep you posted." said Jones.
"Thanks." said Justin as he walked out.
Justin began flying around Manhattan, trying his best to listen out for Amethyst or anything that would give away her location which had proved futile until he started to hear someone talking to him.
"Justin, can you hear me?" the voice asked.
Justin recognized the voice and immediately became enraged. This voice belonged to the man in the shadows.
"I'm speaking to you on a frequency only your ears can hear, now listen carefully, if you want your friend back you'll come to the address that I'm about to give you and do exactly what I tell you to do,….come alone and tell no one, I'll know if you do." said the shadow man as the communication ceased.
Justin decided to comply with these terms and refrained from telling anyone, even Director Stone, because if there really was a traitor in the A.D.A, Amethyst's life would be in danger if he said anything. Although on the bright side, Justin was able get rid of his suspicions about Director Stone being the man in the shadows, since he was sure he wouldn't kidnap his own daughter.
"Excuse me sir, what do you want to do about Otto?, they captured him." asked one of the henchmen as he brought in Amethyst with her hands tied.
"He knew what he was getting into so don't worry about that." The shadow man replied in his disguised voice while still concealing his identity by staying in the dark.
"So you're just gonna ignore me." Amethyst spoke up.
"Oh, I almost forgot you were here." said the shadow man.
"What do you want with me?" Amethyst demanded answers.
"Well aren't you feisty, you're just like your father." He continued.
"My father?, Is that what this is about?" Amethyst asked the man.
"Technically yes, but it mostly has something to do with your friend Justin." He replied.
"Justin?!, what does he have to do with this?" asked Amethyst confused.
"You'll find out soon enough, he should be here any minute." He said while smiling.
"Take her away for now." He instructed as he walked away while still keeping his face hidden.
He walked towards a door to a restricted room. The left side of the door was full of biometrics put in place for security measures, to keep unauthorized personnel from getting in, but mostly to keep the person inside,…from getting out.
He then put in an access code before scanning his hand print and then he did a retinal scan before the door opened.
"Good news Enzo, you can finally let loose and have some fun." He said.
"Its about time, I hope you have someone strong for me to fight." said Enzo who had a personality disorder which causes him to have a need for constant fighting; in other words,….he's crazy, which is why he was locked away as soon he was given his powers.
"I do, so far he's managed to beat everyone I've sent after him." The shadow man explained.
"Almost all of the others were weak, from what I've seen, they wouldn't even put up a good fight against me." Enzo boasted, but he also had the strength to back it up.
"That's true, most of them wouldn't put up a fight against you, but he even beat Brody." He informed him.
"Really?, he beat Brody?, he was probably the only one of them who could give me a real fight, and he beat him, now I can't wait to fight him." said Enzo getting excited.
"And he's on his way here right now, but before I let you fight him, you have to promise to do something for me." He said.
"And what's that?" asked Enzo.
"Make him bleed, a lot." said the man in the shadows.
"Consider it done, I was already planning on it." said Enzo while smiling sinisterly.
A FEW MINUTES LATER
After flying for a while, Justin reached the location that he was told to come to. He walked towards the entrance and walked through the door. Inside was very spacious almost like a warehouse and practically vacant, or so he thought before seeing Amethyst chained up in the corner with her mouth taped up. Justin quickly rushed over to set her free but since he was in his suit, he couldn't let her know who was under the mask.
"Its gonna be okay, I'm gonna get you out of here." said Justin trying to calm her down cause since the fear was evident on her face as her eyebrows raised and eyes widened and it seemed like she was trying to tell him something but the tape was hindering her speech; so Justin proceeded to take the tape off.
"BEHIND YOU!" she warned him as soon as the tape was removed.
Justin quickly turned around and managed to dodge some sort of blade but not before it grazed his arm.
"You're pretty fast, even tough she warned you I'm still surprised that you managed to dodge that. You must be the guy that beat Brody, I heard you were strong, you better not disappoint me." Enzo spoke with excitement written all over his face.
Justin saw that Enzo had a shiny blade for an arm and looked back at the wound that the blade left on his arm and saw that he was bleeding. Justin realized that whatever that blade was made out of was strong enough to cut him.
"Great, another one, I really don't have time for this." said Justin realizing that he was just another one of metahumans the shadow man created.
"Well, if you want to leave here with that girl, then you better make time." said Enzo as his blade extended and slightly changed shape and his other arm did the same.
"Before we start the fight officially, I think we should at least introduce ourselves, I'm Enzo." He introduced himself.
"I don't care." Justin spat as he charged at him to throw a punch with a lot of force behind it.
Enzo blocked the punch with one if his arm blades. The impact echoed through the room but to Justin's surprise, there was not a scratch on the blade.
"Is that all you got." asked Enzo while grinning.
Enzo began attacking Justin but he carefully avoided Enzo's blades while searching for an opening. Enzo kept slicing and Justin kept dodging until he finally found the opening that he was looking for which was the center of his torso, so he threw another punch with even more force than the last one and he landed his attack.
"Ugh,…cough!, cough!" Enzo groaned as his arms returned to normal. For a moment, Justin thought he might be able to win this fight, but that feeling didn't last long.
"Sike!" Enzo mocked as he lifted up his head with a grin back on his face.
Enzo grabbed a hold of Justin before he could escape and tore his shirt off to reveal that the section of his torso that Justin had hit was coated in the same thing as his arms were when he made them into blades, and since it's so durable, he didn't feel a thing.
Enzo's hand hardened again, but instead of making a blade, he just made a fist and punched Justin in his chest sending him across the room.
"UGH!!" Justin groaned in pain.
"Now that's a punch." Enzo spoke praising himself.
That punch left Justin with four broken ribs and gasping for air. He realized that Enzo had brute strength probably second to only Brody and his body but can do as much damage as him if not more when he coats himself in whatever alloy that his body is made of, and it also increases his defense.
"Okay, let's take this seriously." said Enzo.
Justin picked himself up and decided to keep his distance thinking that it would help. The closer Enzo got to him the further Justin moved away.
"So you think keeping your distance will save you huh?, think again." said Enzo as the alloy on his body started to form spikes all over and he shot them out of his body, utilizing them as projectiles.
"Woah!" Justin exclaimed as he barely dodged one of the spikes that was heading for his head as well as the other spikes.
"There's more where that came from." said Enzo as he shot more at him.
Justin maneuvered around his vicinity and managed to dodge most of the spikes although some if them grazed him and damaged his suit. They both kept this up until Enzo grew tired of Justin dodging his attacks.
"Okay, you might be able to dodge my attacks,…but she can't." said Enzo as he turned his attention to Amethyst.
"NO!" Justin shouted.
As Enzo started shooting spikes at her, she closed her eyes to brace for the inevitable. A few seconds passed before she reopened her eyes, and when she did, she was surprised that she wasn't hurt at all, but something else surprised her more. Justin was standing in front of her with his back turned to her. It was probably the fastest he had ever moved; he had used himself as a shield to protect her since there wasn't enough time to move her and himself out of the way. He was bleeding a lot despite ensuring that the spikes missed his most vital spots.
"Oh my god." said Amethyst.
"Are you hurt?" asked Justin choosing not to turn around since his mask was damaged.
"No, but you should really be more worried about yourself, you're bleeding a lot." said Amethyst.
"I'll be fine." said Justin as pulled out the spikes that were stuck in his body.
"Damn, and I thought you were fast before." Enzo voiced in genuine awe.
Enzo noticed the column behind them which was greatly damaged by his spikes and it didn't look like it would withstand another attack.
"Let's see you dodge this." Enzo spoke.
Enzo shot more spikes at the column, reducing its structural integrity until the column collapsed and with it the part of the ceiling slab that it was supporting fell on top of the two of them. Enzo waited a few seconds expecting Justin to emerge from the rubble.
"Well that was boring, can't believe that beat Brody." said Enzo as he started walking away think that the fallen debris had killed them.
Suddenly, Enzo heard some movement behind him and turned around, Justin was lifting the rubble off himself and Amethyst. Justin's mask was damaged even more which caused most of his face to be revealed.
"Justin?!" Amethyst exclaimed in surprise as she saw his face.
Justin didn't know what to say to her so he just decided to focus on getting her out of there.
"I'll explain later." said Justin as he lifted up the heavy debris.
"It seems I had written you off too quickly." said Enzo as he was ready for round two.
Justin started to think of ways to get Amethyst out of there safely since he didn't think he could beat him in a fight and no great ideas were coming to mind, so he started looking around for possible exits and Enzo picked up on that.
"I hope you're not thinking of escaping,… cause it wouldn't end well for her." Enzo warned.
Enzo took one of his spikes and showed it to him.
"You see this, I put one of these in the left arm of your little friend there, just beneath the skin while she was unconscious." Enzo explained.
Enzo made the spike levitate in mid air to use it as a demonstration. The spike started to grow in size and more spikes started to grow from it.
"Do you understand?, if I decide to, I could make that small shard move to the center of her body and make it do the same thing as the shard in my hand, her organs, her bones, every single part of her body would be skewered and ripped apart from the inside, she'd become like a human pin cushion." Enzo explained.
"And if you don't believe me, let me give you another demonstration." Enzo continued as he started controlling the shard inside her body.
Amethyst then let out a scream that echoed through the room.
Justin took a look at her arm and saw something moving below the skin, he realized that he wasn't bluffing.
"And the only way you're gonna get that out of her safely is if you beat me, I was promised a good fight and I will have a good fight, so don't even think of running away, you're only leaving here either one of two ways, if you win, or in a body bag." Enzo expressed his strange deadly determination.
"Fine, I'll fight you, just stop whatever you're doing to her." Justin agreed since Enzo was holding her life hostage.
Justin stood up to fight but he was still really injured, there were severe cuts that he received from the spikes that he used his body to protect Amethyst from, plus there were the four broken ribs he had before.
They both started to fight again but because of his injuries, Justin's movement were sluggish and wasn't putting up much of a fight. The fight seemed one sided this time around as Justin was running low on his energy reserves and fell to the ground after receiving more injuries.
"Is that really all you have to offer, I'm only getting warmed up." Enzo said disappointed as he walked over to him, lifted him up and threw him back down with extreme force. Then, as he stood over Justin, he used his blades and stabbed him in both his legs.
"Well, this is going nowhere, maybe I should just kill your friend and then just kill you." said Enzo as he walked over to Amethyst. Enzo grabbed her and was about to kill her.
"NO!" Justin shouted as he speeded towards him with his right hand glowing and charged with almost every bit of energy he had left as he clenched his fist and punched Enzo in his face as he turned around. The punch sent Enzo through a wall.
"Come on, let's get out of here." said Justin as he limped over towards her with his injured legs and he was loosing a lot of blood.
"We should really get you to a hospital." Amethyst suggested.
"Its okay, ill heal soon so I should be fine." said Justin as he started to untie her.
"Now that's what I'm talking about." said Enzo as he got up from rubble.
Justin's face started showing signs of despair as he had given that last punch almost everything he had left. He realized that Enzo had half of his face hardened with the same alloy which he must have done right before Justin's fist had made contact with his face. Despite Justin's punch being really strong, all it did was leave a crack on his face before it disappeared.
"That attack wasn't half bad, maybe you're not as boring as I thought." said Enzo as he walked towards them.
"Judging by that look on your face I take it that was the last of your power." Enzo assumed but Justin refused to answer him.
"I take it back, this fight is boring, and if you cant fight anymore then I suppose there's no reason to keep either of you alive." said Enzo as he grabbed Amethyst by the throat, lifted her up and started to squeeze.
"NO!, STOP IT!" said Justin as he started to punch Enzo but due him running out of energy and his multiple injuries which resulted in him loosing a lot of blood, his punches were weak even for a human.
Amethyst started squirming while trying to remove Enzo's hand from her throat so she could breathe.
"How pathetic, your punches are so weak I don't even need to shield myself or even block them." said Enzo.
Justin punched him a few more times until the punches suddenly started to get stronger and then the last punch that Justin threw was strong enough to do some damage, enough to make him let go of Amethyst just in time, any longer and he would've choked her to death.
"Well what do you know, It seems you do have some power left." Enzo mocked.
But Justin didn't understand where that came from since he thought he was out of energy. He looked at his hands and noticed that his knuckles were glowing, the glow was more purple-ish than the normal blue and white glow. Justin realized why this was happening and thought that he could win this fight despite the odds.
Enzo started to get excited again and decided to go all out from now on and so he made his entire body harden, shiny spikes started growing out of his back and hands and some grew out of his head like horns. Every part of his body was covered in the alloy, it was like he was covered from head to toe in diamonds, and despite the fact that he was going to use them to kill Justin, the shards were a sight to behold as the light shined on them, it was like looking at a prism.
So Justin continued to punch him hoping that he was right about his hunch. As he was doing this, the kinetic energy that was being created from each punch was being absorbed and multiplied before throwing the punch which dealt more damage. Each punch dealt twice as much damage as the last. Enzo started to feel the force of the punches growing stronger and stronger.
"Why does his power keep rising?" Enzo wondered to himself as his hardening started to crack, realizing that this could be bad, had turned his arm into a sword and stabbed him in the stomach.
"Justin!" Amethyst gasped.
Despite the pain that Justin was experiencing, Justin kept fighting and then Enzo kept stabbing and the more kinetic energy that he kept absorbing made him feel a great amount pain in his arms every time he threw a punch.
"What the hell, I keep stabbing him but he's not letting up." Enzo thought to himself. So he decided to focus on reinforcing his hardening and Justin pushing even faster. Due to the speed in which his fist were moving, it created the illusion that he had grown extra arms and they were all punching him and soon the shards not only crack, they broke apart with each hit.
Enzo tried hardening again as soon as his shards broke off but hardening over and over again caused it to get weaker and weaker while the damage of his punches kept getting stronger and stronger even as Justin endured the pain he was feeling all over plus the speed of Justin's attacks proved to be overwhelming for him.
As Justin was fighting through the pain, all that was on his mind was that he had to beat him cause if he doesn't then not only will he kill him, but he'll kill Amethyst. Suddenly he remembered what his mother told him when she was tying his tie for him to go to the dance and played in his mind like she was talking to him.
"A person can do things that they never thought they could do when their backs are against the wall and pushed to the edge, or when someone they care about is in danger. They can surpass their limits and uncover some hidden ability, and that's when a person's true power emerges."
And whether it happened because he remembered this or not, his eyes started to glow a bright white and his pupils and irises disappeared, just like they did when he was fighting Brody and on the day he got his powers and his energy and strength received a massive boost.
When Enzo noticed this slight change in Justin's appearance, he knew that this couldn't be good for him. With this new found strength, Justin punched him again which shattered the shards on his body, and then he punch him in the face which shattered the shards that were protecting his head. The force of that impact sent Enzo out of the building and finally,….he was down for the count.
"Is it over?" asked Amethyst.
"Yeah, its over." Justin replied out of breath as Amethyst proceeded to help him to walk out of the building, but Justin's injuries proved too much for him to stay conscious and he collapsed into the snow as his adrenaline high came to an end.
AN HOUR LATER
"We managed to move all the equipment sir." said one of the henchmen as they were standing in their new base.
"Sir?" the henchman tried to get his attention so it seems he was lost in thought.
The shadow man had witnessed the final moments of the fight and he could've sworn that for a slight moment, that he saw Justin eyes glowing white and he had an idea of what that could mean.
"It couldn't be, someone like him couldn't possible possess that power, it's impossible I must've been seeing things." The shadow man told himself.
"Sir?, is everything alright?" asked the henchman.
"Oh, yes, did you get what I wanted?" asked the shadow man.
"Yes sir." The henchman replied as he gave him samples of Justin's blood and some of Enzo's shards that were covered in Justin's blood that he managed to collect from where the fight took place.
"Excellent." said the man in the shadows.
"So what will you do now sir?, you lost your strongest creation." the henchman questioned.
"That doesn't matter now, cause now I have the boy's D.N.A., and not only do I have the missing part of the formula to ensure that all of our test from now on survive, but now I can make even more of them stronger than before. I might have lost this battle, but I'm about win the war." said the man in the shadows as he laughed maniacally.
TWO MORE HOURS LATER
Justin was lying in the medical bay at the A.D.A unconscious for the last three hours recovering from his injuries but then he woke to see Amethyst sitting beside his bed.
"Hey, how long was I out for?" asked Justin after realizing where he was.
"Three hours, your mother asked me to sit with you until you woke up after she and my dad went somewhere to talk." Amethyst replied.
"How did I get here?" asked Justin
"My dad and your mom found us after you passed out, I them told everything that happened after they captured that Enzo guy." said Amethyst.
"And they brought you here too?" asked Justin surprised since Director Stone wanted to keep her far from all this.
"You mean to this top secret agency that technically doesn't exist?, I already knew he was some kind of secret agent but never gave me the specifics, but my dad came clean with me almost about everything else while you were out, like how you both already knew each other before I introduced you, about him having powers and why he used them to tamper with my memories of you and the others which would explain why I felt like I knew you guys my whole life even though I didn't know you guys that long, or at least I didn't." Amethyst filled him in.
"Speaking of which, do Chloe, Max and Kade know about you, your powers I mean?, and all of this?" She asked.
"Yeah, they know, well I didn't exactly tell them, they kinda just found out, I wanted to tell you but your father made me…." Justin began to reply but hesitated.
"He made you keep it from me to keep me safe, yeah I had a feeling that's what he did." Amethyst finished for him.
"It seems keeping secrets from their kids to keep them safe is something our parents have in common." said Justin
"So aren't you angry that he kept all this from you, even if he was trying to keep you safe?" Justin asked.
"I was, then I almost died today because I accidentally got involved with the exact kind of thing that he wanted to keep me away from, so its kinda hard to be mad at him now." Amethyst explained.
"Yeah, you have a point." Justin agreed.
There was a bit of awkward silence for awhile before Justin decided to address the elephant in the room.
"Um, should we talk about that kiss….?" asked Justin.
"I cant be around you anymore Justin." Amethyst interrupted him.
"What, I already apologized, I know I shouldn't have kissed you." said Justin.
"Its not even about that, although yes, that cant happen again, but I've already forgiven you for that." Amethyst replied.
"When the school got attacked and I got hurt, that guy was after you wasn't he?" she asked rhetorically referring to when Hurricane attacked the school.
"And today that guy was also after you, and I could've died both times, and today I came too close to death, more than I'm comfortable with. So I think this is best, at least for now." said Amethyst.
"I understand." Justin agreed in disappointment.
"But thank you for saving me,….again." Amethyst expressed her gratitude.
"You're welcome but you don't have to thank me." said Justin.
"Yes, I do, and I hope you recover soon." said Amethyst.
"I guess this is goodbye then." Justin spoke calmly, trying to mask his sadness.
"Yeah, I guess it is." said Amethyst sadly before walking out the door soon after.
THE NEXT DAY
Justin left the A.D.A. as soon he had recuperated enough to move. He felt like visiting H.T.I since school had given Christmas break and that was his new favorite place to be.
"Good morning." Justin greeted the new receptionist.
"Mr. Jackson, go right ahead." said the receptionist since Miles had instructed that whenever Justin visited, he could be sent up right away.
Justin walked through the office doors but Miles was not there so Justin decided to wait for him to return. Suddenly the book shelf moved to the side revealing a secret door which Miles walked through.
"Justin?!" Miles voiced surprised to see him.
"Woah!, what's that?" Justin asked in awe of the secret room.
"Oh, um, its just a panic room." said Miles.
Justin heard the rhythm of his heartbeat change which led Justin to realize that he was lying.
"That's really a panic room, doesn't look like one." said Justin.
"Yeah it is." Miles replied.
Once again Justin could hear that he was lying to him.
"Is there something that you needed?" asked Miles.
"Oh no, just thought about paying a visit, you know, more science stuff since there's no school." Justin replied.
"Oh sorry, I'm a bit busy today." said Miles.
"No, its my bad, I probably should've called first." said Justin.
"No that's okay, I am the one who said you could come anytime, you can come by tomorrow when my schedule isn't nearly as hectic." said Miles.
"Sure." said Justin as he and Miles walked through the office doors.
While leaving the building, Justin kept wondering why Miles would lie and what he had to hide and the more he thought about it the more certain things started to add up that he never thought of before, which brought Justin to a shocking theory, and he decided to go back to the A.D.A and shared his theory with his mother and Director Stone.
"Wait, wait, wait,….you think Miles, our friend Miles, is the man in the shadows?" Sarah asked in disbelief.
"That's a bold accusation Justin, do you have any proof?" asked Director Stone.
"Not proof exactly, just a theory, humor me for a second, we know that the man in the shadows is definitely the man who framed my father, Miles says he's been trying to find out who framed my father but he's been in charge of H.T.I for more than half a decade and yet hasn't found anything, instead what if being the boss makes it easier for him to cover his tracks ? Maybe because both Miles and the shadow man are one in the same." Justin explained.
"Justin, that doesn't mean that….." Sarah interjected.
"Hang on, I'm not done, Amethyst was kidnapped yesterday, you went through all the trouble to keep the fact that you have a daughter a secret, and people who know about her are the three of us, Jones….." said Justin.
"and Miles." Sarah finished his sentence realizing that Justin might be making sense.
Justin then told them about the so called panic room that Miles has in his office and the fact he lied about what it really was, which means he probably has something to hide.
"He never mentioned that he has a panic room, and why would he lie about it?" Sarah asked.
Suddenly, Justin's suspicion of Miles started to spread to the both of them.
"What do think, do you really think Miles could be capable of this." asked Sarah.
"I don't know, but maybe its worth looking into." said Director Stone.
They decided to sneak into his office when Miles was out to either confirm or get rid of their suspicions.
"Jones, do you have eyes on Miles?" Director Stone asked over the comms.
"He's in the parking lot, so whatever you're going to do, do it fast." Jones advised.
Justin flew both his mother and Director Stone in through the balcony door. Justin moved the shelf out of the way and Sarah managed to get Miles fingerprints and used them to open the secret door which led to an elevator and they went inside and it took them down to a secret room.
"I bet this wasn't in the blueprints." said Justin.
"Um, you guys should really take a look at this." said Sarah.
When they went to see what Sarah wanted to show them, it was a man who seemed to be unconscious inside of some kind of pod and they couldn't believe who it was.
