Chapter 91 - she refused to see him

Lucas sat alone in his study, the tall windows letting in slanted afternoon light that struck the rows of documents spread across his desk.

He had been cooped up in his study every day after court, attending to tons of matters.

It's the end of the year, and the work has doubled with the limited officials.

Scrolls lay scattered across the wide ebony desk.

They consisted of interrogation transcripts, names of officials dragged from their seats, records of seized estates, guard deployments, intercepted correspondence.

The ink was still wet on most of them.

Nathan stood before him, hands folded behind his back, spine rigid.

He waited as Lucas read the new evidence that had been discovered to convict Windsor of his crimes.

The evidence was discovered the night before at his residence, and with it, he wouldn't be able to wriggle his way out easily.

Nathan cleared his throat as soon as Lucas was done reading it.

"None of them confessed," he reported evenly.
