Every day, he would guide the Jonin in their Wood Style practice, take breaks to draw his Inuyasha manga, and learn the various ninjutsu that the Jonin had gifted him. Life was good.
Until one day, his wish pool updated.
Meteor, Butterfly, and Sword Wish Pool.
An Yan's wish system had always been based on games he had played in his previous life. However, some games were not very impressive in the world of Naruto. For example, Meteor, Butterfly, and Sword, an old wuxia fighting game, was at best at the Chunin level in the ninja world.
An Yan tried a few draws and got the skill moves for the blade, spear, sword, and dagger. After trying them out and confirming that they were just game skills and not real martial arts from a wuxia world, he was greatly disappointed.
He decided to continue his research on White Zetsu and not waste any more effort on this wish pool. The lottery was too random. Mastering White Zetsu meant mastering a core technology.
Time flies when you're doing research. Seven or eight years passed in the blink of an eye.

The other skills were ordinary, like gun proficiency, driving proficiency, helicopter piloting specialization, and hacking skills. They were all useless in the current ninja world unless he decided to go crazy and start building engines from scratch.
So, for the past few years, An Yan had been focusing on ninjutsu. With his system's bug-level learning ability, he had improved in all aspects. He was now a well-rounded, hexagonal warrior.
Sasuke and Naruto had grown from Genin to Kage-level in two and a half years. An Yan felt his own progress was comparable. He could probably take on Danzo one-on-one with ease now.
Konoha had also been developing rapidly over the years. With a new batch of graduating Genin every year, the village had quickly replenished the mid- and low-level forces it had lost in the first war. The fresh blood had accelerated the village's development.
Not to mention, An Yan had personally taught forty to fifty Wood Style ninja, all of them Jonin. And they, in turn, would take on their own students. The number was unknown.
If he were Hiruzen, he would probably be arrogant enough to take on the other four nations by himself. He had heard that Danzo was already getting restless.
Over the years, as he taught more and more students, An Yan's influence had also grown. The medical ninja training program he had proposed many years ago had also been put on the agenda.
The students at the academy now had a new class: battlefield first aid training. A cause for celebration indeed.
And An Yan had finally been promoted to Jonin. Although he hadn't been on many missions, his strength had been increasing rapidly. Tobirama had been watching him and had recently mentioned it to Hiruzen.
In Hiruzen's eyes, An Yan, Orochimaru, and Hiruko had become non-combat personnel, positioned as Konoha's researchers.
However, when Tobirama revealed their true strength to him, Hiruzen changed his mind. Three Jonin... how many S- and A-rank missions could they complete in a year? That would bring a huge income to the village.
As for their research projects, they mostly just cost money. Very few of them could actually make money.
The research on the Wood Style, bloodlines, and White Zetsu could only be used internally in Konoha; it couldn't be sold for profit. Although it was all for their own benefit, the constant spending was still painful.
An Yan didn't understand why Tobirama had done it at first. It seemed like he wanted to kick the three of them out of the Technology Development Department.
But after a moment's thought, he understood.
Research is expensive.
Whether it was Orochimaru's Reanimation Jutsu or Hiruko's Chimera Technique, they all required a large amount of funding.
After so many years of spending, Tobirama was out of money. And the annual subsidy from the village was limited and not even enough for his own projects.
Not to mention the three big spenders: An Yan, Orochimaru, and Hiruko.
