Chapter 8 - Chapter -8 : Meeting

"Yes, this apartment is already sold, and you can't break the door," he added and fairly stood by the door.

At this time, the second brother, who was the sharpest, asked, "So where is the girl who used to live here?"

"I am sorry, but I can't tell our information to other people," he said after seeing that they had calmed down. Seriously, who actually came to the door like that and started yelling and scolding just like that? He thought to himself.

After realizing that, there is no use in staying here. Father Gupta was livid; his face blackened like the bottom of a pot, eyes blazing with anger.

But he had not much time left, so he finally agreed to give her the money and asked her to meet him and complete the process as soon as possible.

Ruhi, who, after collecting all the remaining supplies for the warehouse, had just reached the apartment, glared at the message. She sneered.

See, at the end of the day, he still came back, so she agreed to meet him that evening. After putting down the phone, Ruhi's eyes fell on the tall building—one of the few that had not only survived the flood and the typhoon but emerged stronger, more imposing.

She had never lived in this apartment before. It was too tall; she'd always been afraid of heights. But after all she had endured since the apocalypse began, even heights had lost their power over her. Strangely, she felt drawn to this place.

Ruhi clenched her fist until her knuckles turned white, took a deep breath, and entered the building.

Inside the lift, she pressed the button for the 17th floor.

Just then, another person stepped in from the left. He glanced at the floor number, then stood there, his presence filling the small, closed space.

Ruhi's eyes flicked toward him. He was… handsome. His nose was straight, like carved jade, and his jawline sharp. Even in a simple black shirt and jeans, he carried an aura that could make any girl blush.

Realizing she was staring, she tried to look away. But he'd already noticed. Suddenly, he said, "Ruhi, is that you?"

She was stunned. *This handsome guy actually knows my name?* She only managed that thought, not quite processing his words, and tilted her head in confusion.

Seeing her peach-blossom eyes fixed on him, he smiled. His smile was like a flower blooming, and it made Ruhi's heart flutter.

For a moment, she completely forgot she had a fiancé and simply enjoyed this handsome man's smile.

"Ruhi, don't you remember me?"

His voice snapped her out of her daze. She looked at him again. *Do I really know him? If I did, I never would've agreed to get engaged to that cheater.*

When her father had fixed the engagement, her grandparents had objected fiercely. She was still a minor—she didn't need this. *He could have had some other kind of help,* her grandfather had said.

But after seeing his handsome face, she'd agreed and even convinced her grandfather. The engagement happened only because his father had saved her father's life—a debt repaid with a promise.

Even so, her fiancé never treated her nicely. But whenever she saw his handsome face, she stayed silent.

Now, faced with another handsome face and a deep, gentle voice, she almost pretended to remember. But she decided against it.

Honestly, she shook her head. "I'm sorry, I don't remember." Seeing his downcast expression, she had the sudden urge to pat his head, but she controlled herself.

Noticing the embarrassment and guilt on her fair face, he smiled softly. *You're still the same. Cute and a bit silly.*

He laughed lightly. "I'm just kidding. I'm Subham. Remember now?"

"Subham…" Ruhi still looked confused, sifting through her memories. Then something clicked. She looked at him again, this time more seriously.

Her eyes widened in surprise. She put a hand over her mouth. "Are you really that fatty, Subham?"

When Ruhi lived with her grandparents, she used to play with the kids in their community. Subham was one of them—not just any friend.

He liked to stick to her a lot because he was a little fatty, and not many of the other children wanted to play with him. They grew close. But after she returned to her parents' home, she lost contact. She'd heard his father sent him into the army.

Who would have thought that a shy, cute boy would become so handsome? And his body was now muscular, with six-pack abs.

"Well, I'm not fat anymore, as you can see," he said, looking amused.

"Right. You're quite handsome now," she murmured under her breath.

"What did you say?" he asked, leaning closer.

Just then, a *ding* sounded, and light flooded the elevator as the doors opened.

Ruhi hurried out, turning briefly to say, "We've reached. It's nice meeting you again, Subham!" She fumbled for her keys, unlocked the door, slipped inside, and closed it with a bang.
