Chapter 18 - Enter Drax

Phoenix

By the time Phoenix logged in, chaos had broken out. Lira was hovering high in the air. Her petal pink dress, marred by a pair of small pawprint shaped dirt smudges. Her little comet fox companion was leaping into the air, yipping at the pixie. At the barrier, five silver wolves were biting and clawing at the shield, their mouths foaming with exertion.

Phoenix growled, pinching the bridge of her nose. First thing's first, get this mess in order. She let out a howl her pitch starting high then gradually dropping it lower, letting her disapproval bleed through each note. Every being within earshot of her cries stopped what they were doing. A collective shiver ran through each body. First, she turned to the wolves. "Boys, spread the word. Attack no one unless provoked." The wolves bowed then dashed off in all directions. Then, she turned to Opal. The comet fox's whole body

seemed to shrink in on itself, head and tail hanging heavily. Phoenix knelt down to reach the little vulpine. Her hand gently pulled Opal's chin up until their eyes met. "Let's work on playing nicely with our friends. To start, not everyone likes being jumped on."

The fox's ruby eyes lit up in understanding, little embers of varying colors sparked to life along her dark starry coat of fur. "Hehehe" Opal answered, wide toothy grin spreading across her face in glee, tail wagging

excitedly. Phoenix stroked the fox's head affectionately.

Now that the immediate issues were resolved, she needed to speak with Lira. The pixie was swiping her hands across her dress, trying to brush the dirt from it. Her soft green glow barely noticeable in the bright

sunlight. "Lira, what level did you reach before wandering into this forest?" Phoenix's

voice came out more clipped than she intended, but given the close call from last

night it was warranted.

Lira flinched, chocolate brown eyes meeting light celtic blue. "L-level 15." The pixie straightened her stance. An effort to mask her shaken confidence.

A pang of guilt pricked her heart. Was she coming off a bit too harsh? She sighed, I million different thoughts going through her mind. "I'll help you train. That way you won't feel so scared."

Lira's cheeks puffed up, face turning red. Her long clear wings fluttered in a frenzy. Eyes brimming with defiance and frustration glared back at her. "I wasn't scared. Just caught off guard." A knowing grin graced Phoenix's

lips. All at once, the flame in Lira's eyes dissipated. Her jaw dropped in shock, eyes growing the size of saucers. "Lillian! Is that really you?"

"It is." Another player had teleported directly behind Lira during the conversation. Lira jumped in surprise. His gorgeous grass green eyes and messy chestnut brown hair were easily recognizable. The dazzling gold armor his avatar was garbed in emblazoned with a dragon belching flames that adorned both shoulder plates. [Drax] was the name that hovered over his head. "Sorry to

interrupt, ladies. I just need to borrow her for a minute." Drax gestured with an upturned hand, asking for Phoenix's. Between his knightly appearance and his chivalrous invitation, she felt a fluttering like butterflies in her stomach.

Lira's gaze switched back and forth between the shifter and knight, a gleam entered her eyes. A mixture of mischief and anticipation. "I don't mind so long as you don't forget about me while getting lost in each other's eyes."

Phoenix felt heat creep into her cheeks, crossing over the bridge of her nose. Drax's face had turned just as red as hers felt. She glared at Lira who shrugged, a teasing smile playing on her face. "We should get started

so my flighty friend can start grinding experience."
