Frances's cold attitude struck Nevaeh as strange, so she quickened her pace to catch up with her.
Hearing her name called again, Frances stopped and turned around.
The cheerful friendliness was gone, replaced by a detached coolness. "Do you like Samuel?" she asked bluntly.
Nevaeh was momentarily stunned before responding quickly, "Why would you ask that? I'm married to Cassius. Besides, Samuel and I… we're not even on the same level."
"But he likes you," Frances shot back.
She had tried to dismiss Elizabeth's poisonous whispers, but the more she thought about it, the more it made sense.
Samuel did have feelings for Nevaeh. And lately, Nevaeh had been spending more and more time with him.
The realization made Frances deeply uncomfortable, which was why she'd been avoiding her.
Seeing the hurt and accusation in Frances's eyes, Nevaeh decided to be completely direct.
