Chapter 88 - Qi Fan: I'm Really Not an Alchemist!

As the woman looked on in confusion, the three of them quickly arrived in front of the Alchemist Guild.

Qi Fan raised his eyes, gazing at the nearby building, which was not only huge but also uniquely designed.

The overall shape roughly resembled a medicine cauldron.

Windows, similar to the fire openings of a cauldron, were set around it. On the towering roof, a large cauldron lid lay down, concealing the building beneath it.

His gaze fell on the light purple plaque outside the building, where five ancient, somewhat blurred characters shimmered with a faint glow.

"Alchemist Guild!"

He murmured the words, revealing the most respected place in every city of the Jia Ma Empire.

Qi Fan glanced around at the people nearby, noticing that they all cast admiring and respectful glances towards the building.

However, for others, this place was sacred. For the current Qi Fan, it was just… a place to eat!

While Qi Fan curiously looked around, Otto and the female disciple had already drawn the attention of many people.

"Get out of the way! Is it fun to block the path?"

The woman walked forward, and when she saw several young men blocking her path, she snorted unhappily.

"Hehe~"

The young men smiled obsequiously.

"Miss Lin Fei, are you here to take the Rank One Alchemist exam today? Master Otto is indeed worthy of being called one of the strongest alchemists in Black Rock City!"

"Yes~ In less than three years, Miss Lin Fei has actually become a real alchemist!"

Even though the woman named Lin Fei's tone was so unfriendly, these people were still smiling and apologetic. Then, they moved their bodies aside, clearing a path.

Qi Fan understood why Lin Fei had been so spoiled earlier, acting like she owned the road.

It was all these guys' fault for indulging her!

He had a point.

The old man behind her was one of the strongest alchemists in Black Rock City. Who wouldn't give him face?

A little potato acting tough!

Lin Fei proudly straightened her back and smiled, "Don't worry, I won't treat you badly once I officially become an alchemist."

"Examining for Rank One Alchemist?"

Qi Fan's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at the "child-faced, big-chested potato" standing beside him.

Hearing Qi Fan's doubt, Otto quickly explained, "Young Master Xiao Fan, this girl has a decent talent in alchemy. She was in such a hurry and bumped into you because she was busy taking the alchemist qualification exam."

"Mm."

Qi Fan nodded, unconcerned.

"Let's go, girl. Don't embarrass this old man in front of Little Brother Xiao Fan today!"

Otto said with a smile to Lin Fei.

"I know, Teacher."

Lin Fei responded seriously:

"Rest assured! It's just refining a newly formed medicinal pill, right? How could that possibly stump your good disciple?"

He could see it. His teacher really wanted to show off today, really wanted to... put on a show!

But no matter how he looked at it, his teacher seemed to be trying to please this young man?

What exactly was different about him?

Curiosity killed the cat, a principle that women just didn't seem to understand.

Clearly, this little potato-head had too much chest and, naturally, even less brain!

"Master Otto!"

The three of them walked inside, and the people around them all respectfully saluted.

Entering the Alchemist Guild, Qi Fan immediately caught a faint scent of medicine, which made him feel refreshed.

This smell was much better than the food he cooked.

The bright lights illuminated the spacious hall, making it seem like daytime.

At this moment, the hall was crowded with many people, and the sound of hushed laughter occasionally echoed through the hall.

The sound of footsteps drew the attention of a group of people.

Among them was an old man!

This person was none other than Frank, the chairman of the Alchemist Guild in Black Rock City!

"Old Otto, you're still as slow as ever!"

Frank turned his head and immediately began to tease.

Otto chuckled:

"This girl bumped into this young man on the road, so we were delayed."

"Eh? Where's Xue Mei? Why isn't she out yet?"

Otto's words caused Frank to frown.

He curiously turned his gaze towards Qi Fan.

He and Otto were old friends, so he naturally understood what Otto meant by "bumped"!

Could this young man be different?

Without much time to think, Frank simply nodded at Qi Fan and then said with a smile:

"You old man are in a hurry. Don't worry, this is Xue Mei's first assessment, so she naturally needs to be fully prepared."

Hearing this, Otto pursed his lips.

"Ten minutes left. Even if you're the chairman, we can't extend the exam time for no reason."

"..."

Seeing his usually lazy old friend so anxious, Frank glanced curiously at Qi Fan. That young man could make Otto act this way… something was off, very off!

Frank stared at Qi Fan, asking in surprise, "Young man, are you here to take the Alchemist exam too?"

"No."

Qi Fan replied calmly, "I'm here at Master Otto's invitation."

"Heh~"

Hearing this, Frank's expression turned cold.

"Old Otto, what do you mean by that?"

"How can you bring someone who isn't taking the alchemist exam into the testing room?"

"What? Not allowed?"

Otto immediately became displeased.

"Frank! Even though you're the Guild Master, I, Otto, bringing one person in..."

"Alright."

Before Otto could finish, Qi Fan interrupted.

"You two don't need to put on an act. I can tell you very clearly, I'm not an alchemist."

"Is..."

Qi Fan's words stunned the two old men, leaving them embarrassed.

They had been acting for decades, seasoned veterans of the craft, yet he had seen right through them at a glance.

"Little brother Xiao Fan, you're really not an alchemist?" Otto asked, incredulous, double-checking.

"Really not." Qi Fan felt a pang of bitterness.

If I were an alchemist, would I have been stuck in this village for so many years?

Hearing Qi Fan's confirmation, Otto and Frank exchanged a look, their hearts even more shocked.

Not an alchemist? Then how did he conceal his aura? Could it be…

At that moment, the two old men's eyes widened simultaneously!

"His strength... is greater than ours!"

Qi Fan looked at the two wide-eyed old men, speechless.

I already said I wasn't... why are they still so shocked?

Not wanting to get involved, Qi Fan smiled faintly. "Since the two Masters are going to assess the alchemists, then you can go ahead. By the way, do you have any writing materials here?"

"Yes!"

President Frank replied and then asked curiously, "Um... Little Brother Xiao Fan, what do you need the writing materials for?"

"To write a letter home to my daughter."

"You... you... you have a daughter?"

Qi Fan's calm words made Lin Fei's beautiful eyes widen in disbelief.

Qi Fan frowned. "I'm over twenty, is it so strange that I have a daughter?"

"N-no, it's not strange."

Lin Fei shook her head, lightly biting her lip, seemingly lost in thought.

At this moment, the maid had brought over the writing brush, ink, paper, and ink stone.

Qi Fan, eager to reply to his precious daughter, ignored everyone's gazes and picked up the brush to begin writing.

[Yan'er...]

He'd only written two characters when Qi Fan frowned, muttering, "This ink is a bit thin. It's bleeding through the paper."

Hearing this, Otto immediately called out, "What are you waiting for? Hurry and prepare the ink for Brother Xiao Fan!"

"No need."

Qi Fan spoke calmly, and then, on the tip of his left index finger, a cluster of Ink-Colored Flame suddenly appeared!

Seeing this, Lin Fei exclaimed, "Condensing real fire? This, this..."

In the eyes of the astounded crowd, the Ink-Colored Flame, following Qi Fan's finger movements, floated onto the inkstone.

"Chh~"

Under the slight scorching of the flames, the initially thin ink instantly became thicker!

"Feeling~"

Qi Fan's actions left everyone present utterly shocked!

At this moment, Otto and Frank asked in unison, astonished:

"Young Brother Xiao Fan, you're really not an alchemist?"

Xiao Fan said helplessly, "I'm really not an alchemist!!"
