Chapter 23 - The Back That Once Stood Proud

After a moment of silence, the renewal energy burst out with great power. The Storm (Al-Asifa) stood up and the Heaven Sunderer moved at the same time. Three of the Heaven Sunderer's arms had been renewed, but they weren't at full strength yet, while the fourth arm was still holding the last remaining sword.

The Heaven Sunder moved first. A direct sword strike towards the Storm's neck. The Storm bent down to avoid it, then twisted his body and kicked the Heaven Sunderer in the chest. The Heaven Sunderer stepped back two steps, then attacked again with his sword in a horizontal slash. The Storm jumped high, striking from above with both hands, sending a sharp air current.

The Heaven Sunderer turned quickly, avoiding the air current. He grabbed the Storm's right arm and pulled hard, while hitting him in the face with his elbow. Blood splattered, but the wound closed quickly.

The Storm responded with a double punch to the Heaven Sunderer's stomach. Then a knee strike to the chest. The Heaven Sunderer retreated, then swung his sword in a circular motion. The sword formed a cutting halo that forced the Storm to jump back.

"You escaped this time!" shouted the Heaven Sunderer.

"Wait!" answered the Storm.

The Storm brought his hands together then suddenly opened them. Dozens of sharp wind blades formed and shot out from all directions. The Heaven Sunderer raised his sword and spun quickly, shattering most of the blades. But some broke through his defenses and stuck into his shoulder and thigh.

Quickly, the Heaven Sunderer pulled out the blades with his free hand while his wounds healed. Then he charged towards the Storm again. This time he was faster.

An overhead sword strike. The Storm blocked it with his crossed arms. Then a side kick from the Heaven Sunderer. The Storm skillfully avoided it and struck his opponent's side.

The Heaven Sunderer fell to one knee, but he immediately turned and swung his sword in an upward motion. The sword cut off part of the Storm's left wing.

The Storm cried out in pain, but he didn't stop. He struck the Heaven Sunderer's back with his fists twice in a row. Then a kick to the back sent the Heaven Sunderer to the ground.

But the Heaven Sunderer was fast. While on the ground, he rolled and then stabbed his sword towards the Storm's stomach. The Storm barely survived, but the sword completely cut off his right wing.

"Now the chances are even!" said the Heaven Sunderer as he got up.

"No, the fight just got more fun!" replied the Storm.

Now without wings, the Storm had to rely only on his speed. He rushed at the Heaven Sunderer with all his strength. His strikes became faster and harder. A punch to the face. Another to the stomach. A kick to the knee.

The Heaven Sunderer blocked most of the strikes, but some got through. Blood scattered from his nose and mouth. But he remained standing.

In a critical moment, when the Storm tried a final blow with his head, the Heaven Sunderer predicted the move. He bent to the side, then wrapped his arm around the Storm's neck.

"It's over!" whispered the Heaven Sunderer.

He squeezed the Storm's neck with force, while the Storm formed a blade of wind and struck the Heaven Sunderer's arm with it. The arm was cut off and fell to the ground.

The two moved back from each other, then the Storm moved with lightning speed. He struck with his right hand at the Heaven Sunderer's face, then with his left hand at his stomach. But the Heaven Sunderer endured the two blows and grabbed the Storm's arms.

Orphin was just watching them from behind, blaming himself.

"I'm weak. I should be the one to defeat him."

But he couldn't do anything and kept watching the fight.

"My turn!" said the Heaven Sunderer as he twisted his body and threw the Storm to the ground.

But the Storm turned in the air and landed on his feet. He kicked the Heaven Sunderer in the chest, then hit him with his elbow in the back. The Heaven Sunderer fell to his knees but got up immediately.

"There's still more!" shouted the Storm.

Sharp wind blades formed between his fingers. He struck the Heaven Sunderer with them at close range. The blades pierced his shoulder and thigh.

The Heaven Sunderer groaned in pain but didn't give up. He rushed at the Storm. He struck with his sword but the Storm avoided it and hit him with a knee to the chest.

"You are strong, I admit this!" said the Heaven Sunderer, holding his chest.

"And you don't give up easily!" replied the Storm.

The two went back to fighting with punches and kicks. Every punch hit its target. Every kick caused severe pain. But the renewal energy was working slowly now. The wounds were healing slower. Blood covered their faces and bodies.

In the critical moment, the Storm hit the Heaven Sunderer with both fists together in the chest. Then the Heaven Sunderer struck the Storm with his sword in the shoulder. Both staggered back.

The Storm fell to his knees, breathing with difficulty. Meanwhile, the Heaven Sunderer stood leaning on his sword, his body shaking from exhaustion.

"My uncle is going to lose, I have to help him," Orphin spoke to himself, thinking.

"But I can't break through Vallhim's defense. I need to find a weakness."

Orphin looked closely at Vallhim, searching for any opening, while the Heaven Sunderer slowly got up and moved towards the Storm, staggering.

"I must kill you, no matter what," the Heaven Sunderer spoke in a weak voice.

The Heaven Sunderer reached the Storm and grabbed his remaining sword to plunge it into the Storm's heart. Then, after a moment...

Shooook

A sword pierced a back, but not the Storm's back—it was the Heaven Sunderer's back.

The Heaven Sunderer looked down and found the sword sticking out of his chest. He turned to find Orphin holding the sword that had pierced him, breathing heavily.

The Heaven Sunderer spoke in a faint voice, "H...how?"

Orphin replied in a hoarse voice, "You were so proud that your back couldn't be pierced, so you left your back exposed. You lost because of your arrogance, great warrior."
