Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Nothing is free

I just shrugged when he said that, pretending I was simply stating the truth. Then we took a taxi home.

On the way, I was looking down at my phone when Vu Hy suddenly said, "Oh right, that kid Da Uyen got a really high score on his test today."

I stopped what I was doing, turned to look at him, feeling a little puzzled: "How do you know?"

Vu Hy smirked: "I know everything. And remember to praise that kid."

Hearing this, I felt a little suspicious, glancing at him: "It seems like you're plotting something else, aren't you? Your tone sounds very suspicious."

Vu Hy paused, pouted, and mumbled: "Do I look that devious? We've been best friends for over a decade, surely you don't doubt me about this?"

His voice sounded very confident. I waved my hand dismissively: "I believe everything in this world, except you."

Then I smirked, looking straight into his face: "Have you looked in the mirror? You call this face trustworthy? It looks like a slippery snake."

Vu Hy's lips twitched at that: "Is it really that bad?"

I replied curtly: "Yes."

And so the two of us bickered all the way home.

When we arrived at Vu Hy's house, he looked at the sky and said: "It's still early, want to come in for a bit? We can take a look around too."

I thought for a moment and nodded. Anyway, I didn't know what to do at home.

As soon as I stepped inside, I was slightly surprised by the size of the house. The interior was, needless to say, a wealthy house. I blurted out: "Wow, what a big house."

Vu Hy just replied indifferently: "It's alright."

I was silent, only one thought in my head: Wtf, this is "alright"? The words of the rich are truly different.

We hadn't gone far when the door opened, and Lam Trach Van came out. Seeing Wu Xi, he immediately hugged her, his voice full of worry mixed with a hint of reproach: "Why didn't you tell me where you were going? Do you know how worried I was?"

Wu Xi didn't push him away, only patted Ze Yun's back: "Someone was there."

Only then did Ze Yun notice me, he paused slightly and let go of Wu Xi. He seemed a little embarrassed, clearing his throat.

Wu Xi seemed unfazed, turning to me: "Come in."

I nodded and followed. When Wu Xi was about to lead me on a tour, Ze Yun spoke first, looking at her as if asking for her opinion. Wu Xi nodded: "Let A Ze lead you."

Along the way, I looked around curiously. After a while, Ze Yun suddenly said: "Do you know… what Wu Xi likes?"

I looked up at him, thought for a moment, and replied: "She likes everything. But she likes sweets and soft things the most, like teddy bears."

I pointed to a nearby vase: "Oh, but she doesn't like lilies. She prefers roses."

Zhai Yun just said "oh," as if taking note.

I slowed down and casually asked, "How are things between you and her lately? Any progress?"

Zhai Yun shook his head: "Still normal. But she's not very interested in me."

I said, "Oh, that's good news."

Zhai Yun looked at me, a little confused.

I shrugged: "If one day she suddenly treats you excessively well, that's when you should worry. Because usually, that's when she's giving you her last act of kindness."

I paused for a moment, my gaze slightly distant, then said, "Her kindness always comes with a purpose... nothing is accidental."

After saying that, I patted Zhai Yun on the shoulder: "But if you really want to pursue her, I have a way."

Returning to the living room, Wu Xi was peeling fruit. Seeing me, he said, "Sit down."

I sat down, eating an apple while glancing at Zhai Yun sitting next to Wu Xi, who had even reached over to help peel it. Seeing that, I felt a little downcast.

I was so stupid… throwing myself into a relationship that had no future.

After a while, I said goodbye and went home.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw Ye Yuan waiting. Before I could say anything, the little boy ran up and hugged me tightly.

I paused, then hugged him back: "Why are you still so childish?"

Only then did I notice that the little boy from before was now taller than me. I gently pushed him away, but seeing his slightly aggrieved expression, my heart softened.

Remembering Wu Xi's words, I said softly, "Don't you want a reward from me, Ye Yuan?"

He looked up, slightly bewildered: "You…what did you say?"

I smiled: "I heard you did really well on this test. What reward do you want?"

Dạ Uyên hesitated for a moment, then whispered: "I… I want to sleep with you, is that okay?"

I was taken aback for a moment, but quickly replied: "Okay."

His eyes lit up: "Really?"

I nodded, handing him the cake: "I also bought you a gift."

He took it, whispering: "Thank you."

I smiled, turning back to the table: "Let's eat, it'll get cold."

I don't know when, but Dạ Uyên was staring intently at his phone, his eyes darkening, as if he had just seen something… but he didn't say anything.
