Chapter 54 - A Little Bit

The hallways felt lighter after the garden breeze, but the moment Thalia and Lily stepped back into the mansion, the atmosphere shifted. Samaria stood near the counter with her arms crossed, eyes sharp like glass.

"So the madam now strolls in the garden while others work?" she sneered, her voice cutting through the kitchen like a blade.

Thalia paused, calm but firm. "I finished my part. I only stepped out for fresh air."

Samaria clicked her tongue. "Fresh air? With the gardener? My, my. You move fast."

A few maids exchanged glances — some uncomfortable, some entertained by the drama. Lily's brows knotted, her tone protective.

"Samaria, that's enough," Lily said, stepping forward. "She didn't do anything wrong. And even if she talked to Fred, what's your problem?"

Samaria smirked. "Touchy, aren't we? Or is someone jealous?"

Lily stiffened. "No one is jealous."

Thalia placed a gentle hand on Lily's wrist, calming her before things escalated.

"It's fine," she said softly. "Let's just go."

They turned and walked out. Behind them, Samaria's eyes narrowed, something dark and petty simmering within. Trouble, clearly, was only beginning.

Outside the kitchen, the corridor was quiet again. Lily's steps softened, and when Thalia glanced at her,

"You defended me," Thalia said with a small smile. "Thank you."

"You deserve respect," Lily replied. "People just… treat you unfairly sometimes."

"Lily… do you like Fred?" she asked gently.

Lily instantly looked away, cheeks warm A Little bit

Thalia raised an eyebrow. "Because you blushed when you saw him. And your voice changed."

Lily fidgeted with her apron string, a shy laugh escaping her.

"Fine… maybe I do. Just a little. He's kind. He doesn't look down on anyone."

Thalia's eyes softened — she understood that feeling too well.

"Have you told him?" she asked.

Lily shook her head quickly. "No! What if he laughs? Or thinks I'm silly? Besides I'm a maid

Thalia stepped closer, voice gentle but confident.

"Lily… love isn't decided by rank or job. A heart is a heart. And you're a human being worthy of care, worthy of being chosen."

Lily looked up, her eyes glimmering.

"Do you think so?"

"I know so," Thalia replied.

For a moment, Lily just stared surprised by how reassuring Thalia could be. No envy, no ego. Slowly, a small hopeful smile formed on her lips.

"Maybe one day," Lily whispered.

"And when that day comes," Thalia said, hooking their fingers playfully, "I expect you to tell me first."

They both laughed.
