Chapter 217 - There’s a Bomb

Over the next few days, the entire stockaded settlement was filled with an atmosphere of happiness.

Every day, the Divine Envoy went out hunting, and his targets were all the ferocious monsters the natives had once avoided at all costs.

Tyrant lizards, soul-beast emperor crocodiles, iron-armored elephants—no matter how savage they used to be, these past few days they had all become food.

Even the monsters in the mist could only become military "achievements" when facing organized armies, let alone the creatures of Skull Island.

When facing an island overlord like Kong, Colonel Packard had been confident that, if he could just get armed transport helicopters, he could bomb the creature to death—never mind these beasts that lived under Kong's shadow.

These monsters were all thick-skinned and tough. Under normal circumstances, even shelling them might take ten or so direct hits to kill one. But Li Qingyuan's summoned bomb insects could precisely lock onto targets.

Even creatures like iron-armored elephants and emperor crocodiles, whose bodies were covered in hard shells, had fragile brain centers. As long as a bomb insect got close, there was no chance of failure.

Moreover, the entire native tribe now revered him like a god. Every hunt was accompanied by several hundred cannon-fodder followers. Even if a strike occasionally failed to kill on the first blast, those expendable fighters would block the front as cover.

Though twenty or thirty cannon fodder had died over the past few days, to the natives this was nothing.

Not to mention that the Divine Envoy had almost completely cleared the threatening monster perimeter around the camp—just the fact that everyone could gorge themselves on meat these days meant that even selling their lives to him felt only proper.

The natives' thinking was simple: whoever gave them meat earned their loyalty. Nothing complicated about it.

After more than a week of feasting, Li Qingyuan's current attributes had become:

Strength: 18 (5)Agility: 13 (5)Constitution: 31 (5)Spirit: 40 (5)

Strength had increased the most, rising from the original five points to eighteen. Now he could lift Tian Shan with one hand and perform various difficult acrobatic "moves," something he would never have dared imagine before.

Agility had also risen a bit. Not as dramatically as strength, but still solid progress.

Logically, the giant monsters he had been eating were all thick and hardy, so constitution should have improved the most. But once a stat passed thirty, the difficulty apparently more than doubled, so even after binge-eating for over ten days, constitution had only increased symbolically by one point.

Counting from when he entered this mission world, he had gained a full eighteen attribute points in just over ten days, and mission completion had reached 21/30—a highly fruitful harvest.

Unfortunately, nearly all the threatening giant monsters nearby had already been caught. To finish the mission in the remaining time, he would probably have to hunt blade-spine jackals and similar trash.

Leaving aside that their meat surely couldn't compare to those terrifying behemoths, judging from their combat strength alone, eating them probably wouldn't grant any attribute points at all.

So early this morning, after breakfast, Li Qingyuan leisurely led his hunting team to the western hillside.

About forty kilometers west of the native camp lay the territory of the Skullcrawler giant lizards.

Fortunately, the natives had domesticated many pack horses. Riding at a relaxed pace, the group reached the area in two hours.

In the past, the natives would never have dared to gallop so openly on horseback. Hundreds of people plus pack animals would have been a lavish buffet for the island's terrifying predators.

But now…

After the hunting team's relentless efforts, all nearby monsters knew those little humans had recently become unusually fierce. Many old neighbors had died inexplicably and ended up as food.

The creatures of Skull Island were not stupid. At first they hadn't taken the natives seriously, but as more and more monsters were killed, the rest had started fleeing.

Seeking advantage and avoiding harm was instinctive to all lifeforms, and these monsters were no exception.

"The scenery here is really beautiful!" Tian Shan said while riding, looking at the surroundings.

She had been terribly bored staying in the settlement. Although seeing Weaver's indignant expression had been satisfying at first, even fun things lost their appeal after more than ten days.

So during a late-night "deep exchange" with a certain someone, Tian Shan had suggested coming along to see the outside.

Li Qingyuan saw no issue. Even if there were danger, he had over a hundred cannon-fodder shock troops at his side. Besides, Tian Shan had improved rapidly these days—he felt she deserved a small reward.

"The scenery may be beautiful, but it's also dangerous," Li Qingyuan said, riding the same pack horse behind her, arms around her waist.

"Front left. Stay alert," he shouted without even looking.

After more than ten days of hunting, even if they still couldn't hold normal conversations, the natives at least understood words like left and right.

Or rather, they had etched them into memory through life-and-death lessons.

Hearing his warning, the natives on the front left immediately dismounted, spears and bows ready, scanning carefully.

They were natives of this land and knew monster habits well. With a careful look, they quickly spotted the anomaly. Dozens of arrows shot out at once.

A seven-to-eight-meter-long yellow-brown centipede was forced out of hiding. The arrows pierced its body but were blocked by its hard shell—frightening in appearance but causing little real damage.

In the past, encountering such a monster would have meant scattering in panic, survival left to fate.

Now they remained calm, forming a formation and surrounding the centipede with spears. Not only were they unafraid, they even worried it might escape.

Even if it had little meat, its shell was valuable—polish it, and they could make over a dozen breastplates.

A mass of black mist, seemingly slow yet actually swift, flew toward the centipede. The natives immediately turned and ran.

The Divine Envoy's spells were powerful, but their biggest flaw was friendly fire.

At first, a few fools had tried to get close to observe how he killed monsters, only to be blown to death by the aftershock. Now everyone knew: when the bombs came, run and lie flat.
