Chapter 67 - Two or Three Things About Captain Jack

"Hard to port!"

Jack Sparrow yelled frantically, and Gibbs immediately spun the ship's wheel all the way over.

"We can't outrun them, their ship's faster!"

Hogan, the small one, let out a mournful cry as he watched the ships chasing after them.

Their last three months could be described as nothing short of disastrous. The first robbery almost got them killed by their prey. After finally managing to swindle and deceive their way into repairing the ship at Aruba Port, they also managed, thanks to Jack Sparrow's personal charm, to con a cannon out of the pocket of a long-widowed woman.

That widow weighed at least three hundred pounds. It was a good thing for them that Jack Sparrow wasn't picky, because the others certainly wouldn't have gone for it!

Relying on his physical assets to get them a cannon, the crew was all sharpening their knives, ready to set sail again and make a big score.

After all, with their combat experience, even with just one cannon, they should be able to rob a small merchant ship!

But when they finally found a target and prepared to make their move, a three-masted sailing ship appeared out of nowhere. It seemed that two groups of people had their eyes on the same cargo.

Well, although the probability of this happening was low, it was understandable. The Caribbean Sea wasn't that big, and the number of merchant ships sailing on it each day was fixed. It wasn't impossible for two groups of pirates to eye the same cargo.

However, when they were about to concede defeat and retreat, the pirate ship across from them spotted them.

There was nothing more to say after that!

"Jack, you bastard! How much money do you owe Old John? Why is he chasing us so relentlessly?" Gibbs cursed while steering the ship.

What a grudge! They didn't even want the prey that was right in front of them, just sticking to them like glue?

"Uh, I don't remember. Maybe three thousand? Or four thousand?" Jack Sparrow helplessly twirled his fingers, as if that was the amount.

Who remembers the exact numbers? Captain Jack Sparrow had sailed the seas for so many years, the IOUs he owed could probably circle the Caribbean Sea two and a half times. Who could possibly keep track of how much he owed?

Honestly, if the other party hadn't suddenly appeared to hunt him down, he would have forgotten all about this creditor.

"I think we have another option!" Looking at the three-masted sailboat getting closer, and the several cannons already rolled out on the deck, little Hogan raised his weapon and gave a sinister laugh.

"No, you can't do this! I'm the captain!" Seeing the crew closing in on him, Jack Sparrow shrieked like a defenseless maiden surrounded by a group of burly men.

A moment later!

"Captain John, this is the prey you wanted!" Gibbs pointed at Jack Sparrow, hanging from the sail, with a grin, and said to Old John, who had one leg.

"Jack! Jack! We meet again!" Old John moved his wooden leg and slowly walked under the mast. Looking at Jack Sparrow, who was hanging upside down, he let out a chilling laugh.

"Hey! Old friend, I think we can talk about the things between us slowly!" Jack Sparrow waved at Old John, forcing a smile.

"We have nothing to talk about!" Old John roared in fury.

"The first time, you bastard swindled five hundred pounds from me, the second time, three thousand pounds, and the third time, you even swindled my wife!"

Everyone, including Old John's crew, stared at him with wide eyes. Such a bombshell was truly shocking.

"Really? I don't recall swindling your wife!"

Jack Sparrow immediately protested. Swindling money was second nature to him; he always aimed to fleece acquaintances first. But swindling someone's wife?

Had he done such a thing?

However, as soon as he said that, Jack Sparrow quickly asked,

"Was your wife Marina? Or Hillary?"

He remembered that he seemed to have swindled two women last year, and by the way, sold them to Shipwreck Cove. Could it be that Old John's wife was one of them?

"Damn it!" Old John's chest heaved with rage. He whipped out his pistol with a thwack, ready to blow the scoundrel away.

"Hey, hey, hey, old friend, you won't gain anything by killing me. Better to spare my life. I guarantee I'll pay you back, and I'll even find you a woman with… with breasts twice the size of your old wife's!" Jack Sparrow shouted desperately.

Seeing that Old John seemed genuinely ready to kill him, Captain Jack immediately became anxious.

His legendary life as Captain Jack Sparrow had just begun; he wasn't about to become fish food so soon.

"Do you think I'm an idiot? I'm going to believe your lies?" Old John pulled the trigger of his flintlock, determined not to believe a single word the scoundrel said this time.

"Mate, do you know the Marquis of the East in Port Royal?" Seeing that the other man seemed determined, Jack Sparrow immediately activated his quick mind, rapidly thinking to save his life.

"Who in the Caribbean doesn't know him!" Old John lowered his gun, his expression filled with longing.

"The Marquis, coming from the East, is ten feet tall, as strong as a mountain. He holds a crystal skull in his left hand, and at his feet lies a three-headed hellhound. He possesses the legendary artifact, the Roar of the Angry Dragon, which can summon the Infernal Dragon's roar. The British sent a massive fleet of three hundred warships last time, but the noble Marquis summoned the dragon and swallowed them all into hell. It's said that the Spanish and French are now paying him tribute!"

After listening to Old John's description, Jack Sparrow and Gibbs exchanged glances.

This... are we sure we're talking about the Marquis of the East that we know?

"Hey, mate, have you considered trying to get a job under the Marquis? Then you wouldn't have to worry about being chased in the Caribbean!" Regardless of how Old John imagined the wizard, Jack Sparrow figured his own hide was safe!

"I'd like to! But I heard the Marquis isn't taking on new people!" Old John scratched his bald head, a bit dejected. As a pirate who spent a lot of time at sea, finding a patron would be the best thing.

After hearing that Li Qingyuan had routed the British fleet, wiping out the entire fleet, Jack Sparrow knew that, at least for the next few years, the entire Caribbean would be under his control.

Originally, he was supposed to go deep into the forest to find the witch Tia Dalma, but his restless heart didn't want to do that at all.

Captain Jack Sparrow was the freest man on the sea. No one could order him around!

But it seemed that the only way to save his own life was to trick the fool in front of him into joining the search for the witch!
