Chapter 65 - White Flag

"What in the world is that?"

Lord Callet Beckett, no longer able to maintain his so-called noble composure, grabbed Captain Arnold by the collar and asked in a somewhat hysterical tone.

He couldn't be blamed for losing his cool. In a mere three minutes, he'd already lost five warships!

Five warships!

That loss alone would make King George II jump out of bed in a rage.

Although Beckett had anticipated losing five to seven warships, that was supposed to happen after they'd taken Royal Port.

Yet now, his fleet was still almost four nautical miles away from Royal Port, not even within the maximum range of their ship-mounted cannons.

Without even seeing the enemy, a tenth of their fleet was already gone. How were they supposed to fight this battle?

"Perhaps… perhaps it's a new type of cannon the enemy developed?"

Captain Arnold wiped the sweat from his brow. He'd never encountered anything so bizarre. They hadn't even reached the maximum range of the artillery, yet the enemy's cannons were hitting them. It was practically a paranormal event!

Not to mention the terrifying power of those cannons, which sent shivers down his spine.

Whether it was a First-Rate Battleship or a Third-Rate Battleship, they were instantly reduced to floating debris if hit!

Captain Arnold had never imagined such a range and such power.

The enemy possessed such a weapon of war, and they had been planning to attack them? It was sheer recklessness.

Now, he truly understood what it meant to be caught between a rock and a hard place!

"Damn it!"

Lord Callet Beckett threw off Captain Arnold's collar, knowing he wouldn't get any answers from him. He quickly forced himself to calm down.

Having risen above millions to be appointed the new commander-in-chief of the Caribbean Sea by King George II, Beckett's mind was incredibly sharp. His previous lapse in composure was simply due to the sudden encounter with an incomprehensible situation that had thrown him off.

"Order all ships, full speed ahead! Break through the blockade of Royal Port directly! Prepare for a boarding action!"

Silently calculating the enemy's artillery firing rate and power, Beckett immediately made the most appropriate decision.

The enemy's cannons were incredibly powerful and had a range far exceeding his own. His only chance of turning the tables now was to rely on numbers and charge in for close combat!

Based on the current firing frequency and accuracy of the enemy, if all ships advanced, about a third of his warships might reach the docks of Royal Port before sinking.

Even if only a third of the warships made it, that would still be five or six thousand soldiers. Royal Port, even if they included the pirates, wouldn't have more than two thousand men.

Six thousand versus two thousand, they could still fight.

Even though the entire fleet would undoubtedly suffer heavy losses, as long as they could seize that cannon that was still wreaking havoc, Lord Callet Beckett felt it was worth it!

If they could capture such a cannon with its incredibly long range and powerful firepower and hand it over to the Royal Academy of Sciences for research, then the Great British Empire's domination of the world would no longer be a dream.

"The enemy seems to have quite a bit of courage!" Seeing that the British fleet not only hadn't retreated but had instead raised their sails and headed towards Royal Port, Li Qingyuan nodded slightly.

"Although the British army is vulnerable, their navy is still quite strong," Lamiel immediately agreed. However, as a former British artilleryman who had surrendered less than two months ago, wasn't your betrayal a bit too efficient?

A traitor, if they were under your command, would undoubtedly be loathsome. But if they appeared on the enemy's side, it was truly gratifying.

So, Li Qingyuan just nodded silently, instructing Lamiel to increase the speed of the bombardment.

Governor Swan watched the warships constantly sinking in the harbor, and then looked at the giant cannon that was continuously firing in front of him, feeling a wave of sorrow.

The invincible fleet of the Great British Empire was now just like a group of live targets, without even a shred of resistance.

The scene couldn't help but remind him of the Spanish landing in the Americas two hundred years ago.

The Aztec and Mayan warriors, wielding stone axes, had bravely charged the Spanish phalanxes armed with matchlock rifles and mortars, only to be slaughtered like prey on the battlefield.

Now, the British fleet was like those Aztecs, their courage commendable, but ultimately having no impact on the battle.

Li Qingyuan had already instructed someone to set up a table. He was now comfortably enjoying the breeze while sipping coffee, watching the warships turn into brilliant fireworks one by one.

"Fourteen! Fifteen!"

The British warships had entered the effective range of the old cannons. Sitting on the hilltop, one could clearly see the ships with the naked eye. Li Qingyuan quietly counted the number of sunken warships, then turned to Elizabeth beside him and asked,

"How many more do you think it will take before those soldiers surrender?"

"British soldiers are the most elite in the world; they wouldn't surrender!" Miss Swan, who had been forcefully made to sit in a chair, replied proudly.

"Uh, and who are these people?" Li Qingyuan gestured towards Lamiel, who was directing his men to adjust the cannon angles, and the artillerymen under his command.

"They aren't exactly proper British soldiers!" Elizabeth stated without hesitation.

"Hmm, then I'm eager to see just how formidable these soldiers from Britain are!" Li Qingyuan smiled slightly and ordered Lamiel.

"Order the other cannons to fire!"

Although he had only modified one cannon, considering the time and certain other concerns, the British ships had already entered the range of the coastal defense cannons. There were still dozens of old cannons left on the mountaintop. Wouldn't it be a waste to just leave them there to soak up the sun?

Boom—

Immediately, the roar of cannons was deafening. These old cannons weren't very powerful, but they were certainly noisy, making even the mountaintop tables shake.

"Sixteen! Seventeen!"

With the sudden increase in the number of cannons, two more British warships were sunk in the sea.

These old coastal defense cannons couldn't inflict much damage, but the British forces were already jumpy. Hearing so much gunfire suddenly scared them into losing their basic operational skills.

After all, they had been getting battered on the sea all the way, without any ability to fight back. This was completely beyond the comprehension of ordinary soldiers.

"Eighteen!"

When another warship was sunk, even though they were only two nautical miles from the Royal Port docks, those British warships dared not advance any further.

In Elizabeth's dumbfounded expression, dozens of warships immediately raised the White Flag!
