Chapter 43 - Chapter 43 - I Want a Job

After finishing with Jaewon, Kang Dae-hyun had made his way to the security room. He knew the people working in that building weren't idiots. They wouldn't just lose important documents by accident, they wouldn't dare with him there. The only explanation was that someone had stolen them.

So he went straight to the security room to check the cameras.

He scanned through the footage quickly, not wasting much time. His eyes moved across the screens, looking for anything out of the ordinary. And then he saw her.

She was moving through the building with extreme caution and professionalism. Every step was calculated, every movement deliberate. She hugged the walls, stayed out of sight lines, and blended into the background so perfectly that she was practically invisible. Anyone else watching the footage would have seen nothing — just another background character.

But Kang Dae-hyun wasn't anyone else.

She was dressed in formal office attire — a crisp white blouse and a tight pencil skirt, the kind of outfit a regular accountant or clerk would wear. But the clothes were clearly too small for her. The blouse strained against her chest, her bust clearly defined and prominent beneath the fabric. The skirt hugged her curves tightly, leaving little to the imagination.

She was beautiful. Strikingly so.

And that was exactly what made Kang Dae-hyun suspicious.

He stared at the screen, a grin spreading across his face. If there was a woman that beautiful working in this building, he would have remembered her. And would have had his fun with her long ago. He was always on the lookout for attractive women, and someone like her wouldn't have escaped his notice. The fact that he didn't recognize her meant one thing: she didn't work here.

Someone had sent her. Someone had infiltrated his operation.

He let out a loud, manic laugh, his eyes fixed on the screen.

"Interesting... very interesting."

He watched the footage, following her movements through the building. He tracked her path, memorizing her face, her body, the way she moved. He was already planning how he would find her.

But then he noticed something else. The papers she had taken — they weren't the most important ones. She hadn't touched the really scandelous fraud documents. She had taken some random, less significant files.

'One thing is for sure though,' he thought. 'That chick ain't taking that to sell.'

If she was here to steal the papers to sell them, she would have gone for the most valuable stuff. But she didn't. That meant either she didn't know what she was doing — which didn't make sense, given how skillfully she moved — or she had taken those documents specifically to bait him. To make him move.

His grin widened.

She wanted him to come after her.

"Now that's interesting," he muttered to himself.

He stood up from the security desk and walked out of the room, his grin never fading. Whoever she was, she had made a mistake coming here. And he was going to enjoy finding her.

---

Kang Dae-hyun walked out of the building, his hands in his pockets, his expression calm. But as he walked, a low, maniacal giggle began to escape his lips. It started soft at first, then grew louder.

People around him on the street began to step back, giving him a wide berth. They didn't know who he was, but something about his presence made them instinctively want to stay away.

He kept walking, his giggles dying down to a low chuckle.

He was being Followed

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed it. A figure in the crowd, about ten meters behind him. A woman with a bag slung over her shoulder, walking casually, blending into the crowd perfectly.

She was good. Very good. He hadn't even noticed her until now, and she had probably been following him since he left the building.

His grin returned.

'What an insane bitch.'

He kept walking, pretending not to notice her. He started moving toward a more isolated area — an abandoned lot. He led her through the streets, turning corners, ducking into less populated areas, until finally, he stopped.

He stood there, his back to her, and spoke.

"You can come out now. I'm doing what you wanted, right?"

There was a pause.

Then, from behind him, a woman's voice cut through the silence. Cold. Clinical. Almost threatening.

"Hello. You must be Mr. Kang Dae-hyun."

He turned around slowly, his eyes gleaming with that dangerous blue light, a wide smile stretching across his face.

Behind him stood the woman from the cameras. Up close, she was even more striking. Her expression was cold, unreadable, her eyes sharp and dangerous. She wore that tight office outfit — the blouse straining against her chest, the skirt hugging her hips.

She gave a slight bow.

"My name is Cheon Seul-ah. It's a pleasure to meet you."

When she bowed forward, her chest was pulled downward by gravity, making her bust even more prominent beneath the tight fabric.

Kang Dae-hyun licked his lips.

"Alright," he said, his voice low and amused. "What do you want with me?"

Cheon Seul-ah straightened up. "I want a job."

He raised an eyebrow. "A job? What kind of job?"

"Simple," she said. "I want to join your gang."

He let out a laugh. "Join my gang? And why would I accept you?"

She tilted her head slightly, her expression still cold and analytical. "Because you value competence, Mr. Kang Dae-hyun. And you value strength. You value people who can get things done. And after demonstrating my skills, I think you'll be interested in having me on your side."

He stared at her for a long moment. Then his grin widened.

"I like you already, baby."

He stepped closer, closing the distance between them. His hand moved to her waist, pulling her against him. She was slender — her waist thin and delicate beneath his grip. Her chest pressed against his torso, soft and warm.

"But," he said, his voice dropping to a whisper, "if you really want to work for me, I can offer you something a little better than just being some low-level thug. Under certain conditions, of course."

She didn't flinch. Her expression remained cold, unreadable.

"I wouldn't recommend that," she said flatly.

He laughed again. "Why? Because you're going to stab me with that pocket knife?"

He threw his head back, laughing.

Then he felt it. A cold pressure against his stomach.

Like he had said, from out of his sight, she had pulled a switchblade from somewhere, and was now pressing it against his abdomen, just below his ribs. He hadn't even seen her draw it. Her chest had blocked his view. But for some reaosn he knew she had it.

"Interesting," he said, his voice low and amused. "Very interesting." IT wasn't possible to tell what he found interesting, her audacity, or she thinking he would actually be injured from a knife wound.

He stared at her, his smile not fading. His eyes began to glow with that intense blue light, his grin stretching so wide it looked like it might tear the skin on his face. A truly unhinged expression.

She stared back at him, her face calm and serene, her eyes cold and threatening, as if daring him to make a move.

He reached up and grabbed her chin, pulling her face close to his.

"I like you," he said, his voice almost a growl. "I like you a lot. A lot, a lot."

He released her, stepping back.

"Alright," he said, his tone shifting to something more businesslike. "I like you. Interesting. Very interesting."

He pulled out his phone — an old, beat-up device with a cracked screen and what looked like bite marks on the casing. It was practically a piece of junk. But he turned it on, typed something into the notes app, and held it up for her to see.

"Here. This is my number. If you want to work with me, we can talk more later, call me."

She pulled out her own phone — a sleek, new, obviously expensive model — and typed in the number. She sent a test message to confirm it was working.

He checked his phone, saw her name pop up, and smiled.

"Cheon Seul-ah," he said, tasting the name. "Good. Very good."

His smile widened even further.

"Now give me back my documents. Hyung-nim will be pissed if I don't bring them back."

She reached into her bag and pulled out the stolen files, handing them over.

He took them, but as he opened the bag, his eyes widened. There were far more documents inside than he had seen her take on the cameras.

"What the hell?" he said, genuine surprise in his voice. "How did you steal so much?"

She shrugged. "Well, since I was already there, I figured I might as well take a few extra important documents. Just to make sure you'd actually come after me."

He stared at her for a moment. Then he threw his head back and laughed. It was a loud, booming laugh, one that seemed to shake the air around him, his voice echoing through the empty lot.

His laughter died down, and he looked at her with a new expression — something between respect and amusement.

"Alright," he said. "Alright, I get it. Very good. Honestly, you're impressive. It's going to be a pleasure working with you, Miss Cheon Seul-ah."

He turned and walked away, carrying the bag of documents with him.

Cheon Seul-ah stood there for a moment, watching him leave. Then she straightened up, and Ervin took control of her expression.

She sighed heavily, rubbing her shoulders.

"Ugh! Why is this so small? I swear this fit just right when I bought it!"

She rationalized it for a moment, then sighed again. "Or maybe not. I didn't test it out a lot in the store."

She undid her high ponytail, letting her hair fall loose, complaining that she was getting hot in all these tight clothes.

She walked away, turning a corner, and there stood Han Joon-seong, waiting for her with his arms crossed. He was holding her coat.

She took it and wrapped it around herself, covering up.

"That was easier than I thought," Han Joon-seong said. "That guy really is insane. There wasn't even any negotiation. He just accepted everything."

Cheon Seul-ah nodded. "Maybe that's exactly why he's an executive. Sometimes you need someone who doesn't care about consequences."

Han Joon-seong shrugged. "Could be."

They started walking home together.

"Alright," Han Joon-seong said. "Everyone is positioned now. Galsaek-pa has someone. Juhwang-pa has someone. Kkachi-pa has someone."

He paused. "Are we forgetting something?"

Cheon Seul-ah looked at him. "We're forgetting our money problem."

He sighed. "Right. We need a way to make more income."

She nodded. "Maybe if we spent all our points on characteristic pills, we could get lucky and get a better Money characteristic. But that's a gamble — we might not get anything good, and we'd waste a lot of time and effort."

Han Joon-seong agreed. "It's not a smart idea. Finding another way to make money is better than gambling on the system."

She shrugged. "But we don't have any knowledge about business. We haven't been here long enough to know the ins and outs of the city."

He sighed. "So I guess our only option is to talk to someone who's lived here longer than we have."

She looked at him. "Yeah. Let's see how Lee Hye-jin is doing."
