Chapter 177 - Chapter 177

Let's reach 250 Power Stones for an extra chapter

Director Fury sat in his office, a stark holographic display casting a cold glow across his face. A SHIELD agent's report, relayed through thermal and audio signatures, filled the room. The data feed showed a private Stark Industries lab, a hive of activity where Tony Stark, Ethan Kepler, and Peter Parker had been working without pause. They were constructing a formidable machine, its energy readings spiking beyond any conventional project. Fury's singular eye narrowed, absorbing every detail. This project, he mused, felt far too ambitious for a simple tech venture, even by Tony's eccentric standards.

"Dismissed," Fury commanded, a mere flick of his wrist.

He leaned back, steepling his fingers under his chin. He already knew about Tony's palladium poisoning. It was a file marked 'national security' in his own databases. He also understood the legacy of Howard Stark, a founding member of SHIELD, whose hidden research remained largely indecipherable to even his top scientists. Howard had always believed only Tony possessed the intellect to complete his work. The pieces began to align in Fury's mind. Tony, driven by desperation for a cure, had undoubtedly stumbled upon Howard's secret projects. Ethan Kepler, the enigma, was somehow entangled in this unfolding drama.

A heavy sigh escaped Fury's lips. Ethan's involvement had undeniably complicated matters. The kid, with his strange creatures and inexplicable abilities, had a knack for mitigating Tony's condition, thereby disrupting Fury's carefully constructed strategy. He had planned to let Tony's vulnerability deepen, then offer Howard's research as a bargaining chip to finally pull him into the Avengers Initiative. Now, that crucial leverage was dissolving. Fury pushed himself to his feet, a decisive look on his face. He would give Tony the research now. It was a better strategic play to have the genius indebted to him than to allow the opportunity to become entirely useless.

The Stark Industries lab sounded like a full-blown construction site. Ethan and his Digimon had been hauling massive copper coils, lifting heavy steel beams, and positioning complicated machinery for days. Gatomon and BlackGatomon strained with a particularly heavy power conduit. Their small bodies shook under the weight.

"This is ridiculous," Gatomon grumbled, her ears flattening in annoyance. "I am a warrior, not a pack mule."

"Right? This is so beneath me," BlackGatomon muttered, her crimson eyes flashing toward Tony. He was directing operations from a safe distance. "I should be fighting, not lifting."

I lifted a heavy crate of tools with Agumon and Gabumon's help.

"Just put up with it for a bit longer," I told them. "This is for the new element, a powerful energy source that could change everything."

"He's got a point," Agumon chimed in, helping me adjust the crate. "This new element will make Tony better, and he needs it."

Gabumon nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, but my claws are getting dull from all this heavy lifting," BlackGatomon complained, shaking a paw. "It is a travesty."

"Think of it as training," I offered, trying to lighten the mood. "Building muscles, you know? Besides, Tony is paying us a ton for this, which means more Digi-Coins for supply boxes."

Gatomon sighed.

"Fine, but I expect extra head scratches later."

"And a new toy for me," BlackGatomon added quickly.

"Deal," I said with a laugh, setting down the crate. "Now, where does this massive copper coil go?"

Tony Stark zipped past on a hoverboard, pointing with a dramatic flourish.

"Over there, my little digital friends! We need to connect it to the main energy conduit. Peter, make sure those relays are secure."

Peter, covered in grease, gave a thumbs-up. He wiped his brow with the back of his hand.

"Almost done, Tony!"

"See?" I nudged BlackGatomon with my foot. "It is for a good cause. We are helping Tony and Peter build something amazing."

"I guess," BlackGatomon said, still sounding unconvinced. "But if I break a claw, you are paying for the repairs."

"And if I get dirty, I expect a full spa treatment," Gatomon added, nudging the heavy conduit with her head.

"You both drive a hard bargain," I chuckled, walking over to help them with the coil. "But it is a deal."

The next few days were a blur of metal, sweat, and Tony's relentless directives. I swear that man could run on pure caffeine and ego. Peter, bless his heart, was right there with us, covered in grease and looking like he hadn't slept in a week, but still buzzing with enthusiasm. He really was a science geek at heart, and watching him and Tony work together was like seeing two mad scientists in their element.

Ballistamon, as you might imagine, was a total beast when it came to heavy lifting.

"Ballistamon, position that power conduit!" Tony yelled, gesturing wildly with a wrench.

[HYDRAULICS WHIRRING]

"On it," Ballistamon rumbled, effortlessly hoisting a massive copper coil that probably weighed more than a small car.

I could not help but feel a little useless when he was around, but then I remembered my contribution: keeping everyone fed and hydrated with the Digi-Home's unlimited supply of snacks and drinks. I mean, someone had to do it.

"Careful with that, big guy," Peter called out, tightening a bolt with a grunt. "We do not want any short circuits."

"Understood," Ballistamon replied, gently lowering the coil into place. He really was a gentle giant, despite his intimidating size.

Gatomon and BlackGatomon were mostly on quality control, making sure no stray wires were left exposed or loose connections could cause problems.

"This is not going to blow up in our faces, right?" BlackGatomon asked, sniffing suspiciously at a sparking connection.

"Not on my watch," Gatomon assured her, tapping the wire with a claw. "It is just a little static."

Days turned into nights, fueled by stale coffee and Peter's endless supply of bad jokes. The chaotic mess of parts and wires slowly transformed into something coherent, a massive circular machine at the center of the lab that pulsed with an internal, contained energy.

"Almost there!" Tony exclaimed, wiping sweat from his brow. "Just one more connection!"

I grabbed the last piece, a small, intricate data chip. My hands were shaking a little, whether from exhaustion or excitement, I could not tell. I carefully inserted the chip into its slot.

Click.

The machine hummed to life, a low, steady thrum that filled the lab. Its core began to glow with a soft, ethereal blue light. It was a massive circular accelerator, a marvel of engineering built in record time. The lab fell silent, save for the machine's gentle thrum. We had done it. The machine was complete, ready for its first test run. A wave of exhaustion and accomplishment washed over the group, pulling at my muscles and making my eyelids feel heavy.

"We actually did it," Peter whispered, his voice full of awe.

"Of course, we did it," Tony replied, a triumphant grin spreading across his face. "Did you expect anything less from me?"

"I expected a few more explosions, to be honest," I teased, leaning against a workbench. My legs felt like jelly.

"There is still time for that," BlackGatomon chimed in, stretching her claws.

"I am just glad it is over," Gatomon added, flopping onto a nearby pile of wires. "I am starving."

Tony, Peter, and I stood before the control console, our faces illuminated by the holographic displays. This was the moment of truth. We were about to attempt to synthesize the new element, a feat that was theoretically impossible. I felt a knot of anticipation in my stomach. I glanced at my Digimon partners, who were watching with rapt attention. This was it. The culmination of all our hard work was about to be put to the test.

"Alright, gentlemen," Tony announced, his voice echoing in the tense silence. "This is it. Peter, run the diagnostics one last time."

"Already on it, Tony," Peter replied, his fingers flying across the holographic keyboard. "Everything is green."

"Ethan, are your little friends ready for some real science?" Tony asked, glancing at Gatomon and BlackGatomon.

"We are always ready, Tony," BlackGatomon said with a confident smirk. "Just try not to blow us up."

"I make no promises," Tony quipped, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. "But if we succeed, this changes everything. No more palladium poisoning, no more dying slowly, and a brand-new element to power the world."

"And a massive payout for us," I reminded him, nudging him playfully. "Don't forget the millions we are going to make."

"Oh, believe me, I haven't," Tony chuckled. "JARVIS, initiate the sequence."

[SYSTEM: SEQUENCE INITIATED]

The machine hummed louder, the blue light intensifying. Peter and Tony watched the monitors, their expressions a mix of excitement and apprehension.

"Energy levels are fluctuating," Peter reported, his voice tight with nerves.

"It is supposed to do that," Tony assured him, though I noticed his jaw was clenched. "Just keep an eye on the core temperature."

"I am on it," Peter said.

I could feel the air crackling with energy, a faint ozone smell filling the lab. This was it. The moment of truth.
