Chapter 150 - Chapter 150

Let's reach 250 Power Stones for an extra chapter

Apemon's bone club whistled down again with a CRUNCH. Another cruiser crumpled like foil, its hood folding inward with a shriek of tortured steel. Officers scattered like ragdolls across the pavement, their boots kicking sparks from the chain-link fence as Ramirez dangled helplessly in the beast's iron grip.

Gwen's Digi-Camo shimmered faintly in the alley gloom. She vaulted over the substation fence, her Digi-Boots gripping the chain-link with a magnetic bite. Renamon leaped beside her, its golden fur slicing through the night air in a graceful arc. They landed firmly between Apemon and the humming transformers, their urgent heroism crackling like a live wire. The beast froze mid-snarl, its red eyes locking onto the intruders, the club dripping with hydraulic fluid.

Apemon let out a guttural roar, shaking Ramirez loose, who rolled away to safety. The ape pivoted its massive frame, yellow fur rippling under the substation floodlights. The bone club arced high towards Renamon.

Renamon dodges fluid, paws blurring in evasive twist. Leaves razor from her form—"Diamond Storm!"—she shouts, unleashing a barrage that rakes golden gashes across Apemon's metallic pelt. Sparks erupt in glittering fan, fur singeing black at edges.

"Renamon, keep it pinned! Circle and strike—buy me time!"

Gwen's voice cuts sharp over chaos.

Renamon growled in affirmation, a low rumble vibrating in her chest. She circled low, her Power Paw igniting with ghostly flames on her claws. Apemon swung wildly; Renamon ducked and countered with a spinning kick to his knee joint. THUD. The bone club struck the concrete, creating fissures that spidered outward. Renamon pressed her attack, unleashing Diamond Storm, which needled into Apemon's flanks. Each leaf bit deep, drawing digital ichor that hissed as it hit the ground.

Apemon bellows fury, fur hardening to spike-barbed armor. Club thrusts like a piston; Renamon vaults over, tail whipping in balance. She lands poised, icy blue eyes narrowed, holding the rampage at bay.

Gwen sprints forward. Marcus's silhouette flees into substation shadows, tactical coat flapping dark. Her Digi-Boots adhere to transformer struts, propelling her upward in urgent chase. Heart hammers fierce—stakes coil tight in her gut. She cannot let him vanish into the night.

Gwen vaulted the final transformer, her Digi-Boots clamping onto humming metal with a sharp click. Sparks showered from overloaded relays, casting writhing shadows across the substation. Marcus whirled, tactical mask blank as carved stone, the Shadowstone throbbing black light in his fist.

Her eyes locked on the control panel. Cables snaked like veins to a rigged explosive device. Red digits glowed: 00:15:00—then flipped to 00:14:59. Dread knotted her gut.

"Stop this now!" Gwen shouted, voice steady despite the tremor. "You're sabotaging the grid—people will die in the blackout!"

Marcus tilted his head, posture unyielding as rebar. "Grid's just a symptom, kid. Corruption runs the circuits. This forces the reset."

"You call murder a reset?" She edged closer, hand hovering near her Digivice. Timer ticked: 00:04:58.

He chuckled low, cold. "World's already blacked out. I'm flipping the switch."

Renamon's distant roar echoed—Apemon's club CRASHED against steel. Gwen tensed, vulnerable in the standoff, as Marcus's grip tightened on the pulsing stone. Deeper motive gleamed in his stance: not chaos, but calculated purge.

Gwen circled Marcus slowly, her Digi-Boots scraping softly against the grated platform. She gestured urgently toward the ticking timer—00:14:30 now—then at the distant shouts of officers and Renamon's snarls clashing with Apemon's roars. Smoke curled from crumpled cruisers below, acrid and thick.

"Please," she said, voice steady but laced with plea. "Stop this. Whatever you're fighting for, innocents are dying out there. Why hurt them?"

Marcus paused. His shoulders loosened a fraction, the Shadowstone pulsing faintly in his gloved fist. He tilted his head, mask slits revealing eyes that flickered with something raw. "Innocents? Kid, there are no innocents in this system. It's all rotten."

Gwen stepped closer, heart pounding. "Rotten how? People like those cops—they're just doing their jobs. You're creating more pain, not fixing it."

His chuckle grated low, defensive edge sharpening. "Pain wakes them up. Governments, corps—they promise protection, then leave you to rot. I learned that the hard way."

Gwen frowned, empathy warring with frustration. "Then tell me. Why blow the grid? Why team with that thing?"

Marcus gripped the Shadowstone tighter, knuckles whitening. His voice dropped to gravel, cynical fire building. "Project Chimera. Black-ops cybernetics, elite squad. We were the tip of the spear—until command hung us out to dry. Rogue op in some hellhole; enemies swarmed. Watched my brothers get carved up, one by one. Betrayed for 'plausible deniability.' I crawled out scarred, alone. Systems like that? They breed monsters. Shadowstone gives me tools to raze 'em—start clean."

He gestured emphatically at the chaos, eyes burning through the mask. "Apemon's no pet; it's leverage. Power the faithful understand. Hardship forges order, not this fake peace."

"You're justifying murder," Gwen shot back sharply, frustration boiling over. "Violence just breeds more chaos. Real justice doesn't torch everything!"

Marcus straightened, resolve hardening like steel. "Chaos is the purge, girl. You think your little fox changes that? Systems corrupt; I end 'em. Step aside, or join the ashes."

Gwen's hand clenched on her Digivice, the air humming with tension. Renamon's distant roar peaked—Apemon's club CRASHED again—but Marcus's fracture gleamed through his fervor: a man convincing himself as much as her. The timer hit 00:04:00. She wouldn't yield.

Marcus snarled, eyes hardening behind his mask. "Talk's over."

He clenched the Shadowstone. Black pulses erupted from its core, ripping reality with a low hum.

CRASH.

Apemon exploded through the adjacent wall. Rubble rained in jagged chunks, concrete dust choking the air. The beast's roar shook the substation grid, transformers whining in protest. Golden fur gleamed under flickering lights as it lumbered to Marcus's side, bone club raised high, dripping debris. Vibrations rattled the bomb timer—00:12:30—digits flickering erratically.

Renamon phased from the shadows beside Gwen, fur bristling, icy blue eyes locked on Apemon. Her paws flexed, claws glinting.

Gwen straightened, mask hiding her fear but not her fire. She raised her Digivice, conviction steeling her stance. No more pleading—this ended now.

"Stand down," she declared, voice cutting sharp through the rumble. "Your rampage stops here. All of you."

Marcus scoffed, a bitter rasp. "Cute speech, kid. Apemon—crush 'em."

Apemon lunged, club whistling down like judgment. Renamon met it head-on, Power Paw igniting in a blaze of ghost-flame. Sparks flew as bone met claw; the impact buckled the platform. Gwen's heart hammered—the timer hit 00:02:15. Digivice glowed hot in her grip, bond surging like live current. Renamon's form shimmered, data streams coiling.

Gwen gripped tighter. Evolution beckoned amid the ticking doom.

Gwen thrust her Digivice skyward. Light exploded from its core, a cyclone of digital fire engulfing Renamon.

[DIGIVOLUTION: RENAMON → KYUBIMON!]

Renamon's fur ignited in blue flames. Data streams coiled, elongating her form—tails multiplied to nine, whipping like azure whips. Power surged outward. Debris scattered in a shockwave. Transformers groaned, sparks raining hot.

"Kyubimon!"

Her voice resonated deep, echoing triumph.

Apemon froze mid-swing, club hovering. Marcus staggered back, Shadowstone flickering dim. Stunned silence gripped the substation.

Kyubimon crouched low beside Gwen, flames crackling along her paws, eyes blazing fierce gold. Nine tails fanned wide, casting flickering shadows. She mirrored Apemon's hulking poise—beast versus spirit, across cracked concrete littered with cruiser husks.

The bomb timer beeped louder. 00:11:45.

"You think a glow-up changes anything?" Marcus snarled, voice gravel-rough. Cynicism cracked his mask. "Apemon—end her."

Apemon bellowed. Club arced down.

Kyubimon leaped, flames trailing. Whoosh. She spun mid-air, tails lashing Onibidama—blue fireballs detonated against Apemon's chest. Sparks burst. The ape reeled, fur smoldering.

Gwen's pulse thundered. "Kyubimon, disarm that bomb! I'll cover!"

Marcus lunged for the panel. Gwen's Digi-Boots clamped the grate. She vaulted forward, fist cocked.

Apemon charged. Kyubimon met it head-on.

CRASH.

Bone club met flaming tails. Shockwave rippled the air. Timer hit 00:01:30. Beeps pierced the roar—urgency coiling tight.

Marcus smirked through the dust. "Your fox is flashy. But my Apemon is not weak."

Kyubimon snarled, eyes locked. Flames hissed higher.

Silence fell heavy. Combatants braced. Sparks danced. The grid hummed doom.
