Chapter 44 - Learning The Origins [2]

Minho stood at the center of the charging armies. It seemed all to real and he thought he was actually going to get shoved for a moment there.

He tried moving but his body didn't listen as it remained still in place.

Eventually, th clash started and he was forced to close his eyes.

The sound suddenly came from far away rather than in place. He opened his eyes to see himself standing atop a hill, while the war took place below.

Minho finally started to see the major players clearly, unlike the other ones where he hardly even realized what was going on.

Just like before, another information flooded his brain as he looked at the Monarchs.

The first he could see was Legia, the Monarch of Beginnings. A mighty giant with stone like skin, commanding an army of giants.

The next was Baran, the Monarch of White Flames. A monstrous demon humanoid with white flames for eyes, leading the demons in battle.

Then Queresha, the Monarch of Plagues/Insect Monarch. A monstrous insectoid queen that controlled all the insectoids in battle and used deadly toxins.

Then Rakkan, the Monarch of Fangs/Beast Monarch. A huge beastly humanoid that raged through the frontline along with his army of beastly humanoids.

Then Yogumunt, the Monarch of Transfiguration. A body of dark unsettling mass that controlled demonic specters.

Then Tarnak, the Monarch of Iron Body. Another giant-like being with metallic skin, leading the orcs and trolls.

Minho's eyes fell to one he recognized too well, even if it was the human form he saw. Sillad, the Monarch of Frost. A humanoid being of ice and snow with long pointed ears, controlling the snow folks (ice entities).

And lastly, one he couldn't make out because it wasn't clear, but he knew who it was. Antares, the Monarch of Destruction, ruler of dragons and dragonkin.

Of all the Monarchs, Antares stood out, Minho already noting the fact that he was the strongest Monarch by a vast margin.

Then another thing clicked.

When the Rulers had taken their request to The Absolute Being, the creator remained oblivious to the request and at the moment they realized that this war had no purpose but entertainment for their creator.

The ground collapsed again and Minho fell once more. This time appearing in one of the hallways of the dragon palace.

Things had changed, a lot. Minho was somewhat shocked by the next piece of information that flooded his mind.

The Absolute Being was… dead? Killed by its own creations, the Rulers themselves. And more surprisingly, they killed one of their kind for his unwavering loyalty to the creator.

The strongest of all Rulers… Ashborn.

Minho was starting to understand but at the same time couldn't help the confusion stirring in him.

Ashborn was a Ruler originally? But how and why did he become a Monarch? Was he resurrected?

Just then he heard some noise in ahead and he decided to follow it.

He walked out of the hallway and saw Antares, still unclear, on his throne. And from the entrance emerged a huge knight that Minho recognized.

From the wars, he could tell that it was the strongest of all Rulers just like Antares to the Monarchs. But instead of the usually, elegant light and graceful look, its body and essence were covered in shadows and darkness.

Was this… Ashborn?

"I see, you are no longer a fragment of brilliant light," said Antares.

Hearing the voice confirmed and one of Minho's guesses. The voice of Primordial Destruction was Antares's voice.

"I no longer have the pride to call myself a Ruler. From now on, I am the Monarch of Shadows," Ashborn declared.

Antares's voice always sent Minho into a slight shudder and right now, Ashborn's was no different.

"And," Ashborn continued. "I seek to join in the war against the Rulers. This will put them at a disadvantage, will it not?"

"And why should I believe this is not a trick to infiltrate us?" Antares answered.

"Should I be on the side of those tried to kill me?" Ashborn asked, not expecting an answer.

'So Ashborn was the one who requested to join the Monarchs,' Minho thought.

Without hearing anymore of the conversation everywhere went black.

....

Inside the dungeon in the real world, Rakkan stood in front of dozens of orc bodies. "Ah, the Monarch of Iron Body sure won't be happy with this," he laughed. "After all, I made the request."

The disciples remained in position.

Rakkan looked over at the helpless Minho. "Hmm," he hummed. 'I hope he hasn't ascended yet. We need to avoid that for now according to the Monarch of Frost. I wanted him to be alone in the dungeon, but it seems he already gained the loyalty of these things. Still, if he tries to go against us, I will just put an end to him here.'

"What are you doing here, Monarch of Fangs?" Eslin asked, her anger evident.

"Me? Well," Rakkan started, walking up to them, stepping on the orc corpses. "I came to check on your 'newest' king."

"What do you mean? You all selfishly betrayed our former and you're here to do what exactly to the new Liege?" Vasha hissed, her usual smug demeanour long lost under her rage.

Rakkan chuckled and returned his focus to Minho. "Step aside you insignificant fools."

Rathalos charged in at Rakkan, throwing a punch, but the Beast Monarch held the dragon hybrid's fist firmly.

Using the distraction, Vasha and Eslin lunged, punching him into the dungeon wall, sending a massive crater web all across it. Dust covered the Monarch.

Rathalos followed with a fire breath, but then a big stone came out of the dust, hitting Rathalos. The Beast Monarch lunged out, punching the dragon hybrid in the abdomen, sending it flying.

He glanced over his shoulder to see Vasha's hand and he grabbed it, smashing her into the wall and flinging her up.

The Beast Monarch scanned the dungeon, his yellow eyes moving at an unnatural speed as cuts started to appear on his body. With a timed stretch of his hand, he caught the blitzing Eslin by the neck and sent her crashing into a charging Rathalos.

The disciples slowly stood up, their sense of protectiveness over their Liege nowhere near waning off just because they are overpowered.

"I was planning on making it easy for you," Rakkan grinned, his eyes glinting an unnatural yellow. "But killing you all works just fine."
