Chapter 5 - chapter 5: lips to lips

I looked at Wu Shen, avoiding his slightly intense gaze, and whispered so softly it was almost inaudible:

"I'm sorry… I… I really don't remember anything…"

I looked up at him. Wu Shen's eyes were gentle, but for some reason, they sent a chill down my spine, as if something dangerous was staring at me. I swallowed hard, reassuring myself:

"Maybe… I'm just overthinking it…"

My mother noticed the awkward atmosphere between us and broke the silence:

"Yun Xiang, you and Wu Shen sit down."

Then she turned to Jing Yuan, her voice tinged with contempt and coldness:

"Hey, please get some water."

He simply said "yes," his voice flat and emotionless. But when she turned away, his expression darkened for a moment, becoming cold and unreadable, then he silently went to get water.

Afterward, my mother also found an excuse to leave, clearly wanting me and Wu Chen to talk privately.

A moment later, Wu Chen broke the suffocating silence:

"You… really don't remember anything?"

I nodded slightly, my hands clasped tightly together in tension:

"Um…"

He stared at me, making me flinch slightly. Then suddenly he smiled:

"Let me tell you. You pursued me first, then we were together. We went out, studied, traveled… everything was great."

His voice slowed:

"Until the day you were going to surprise me and… you were hit by a car."

The story flowed smoothly, but I had absolutely no memory. Not at all. A vague, unsettling feeling welled up inside me.

At that moment, I heard footsteps behind me… no, there were no footsteps. I turned around.

Kình Uyên was standing behind me without me noticing.

I jumped:

"You… are you a ghost? How can you walk without making footsteps?"

He looked at me, his eyes cold, his voice still indifferent:

"Is there something on my face that you're staring at like that, young master?"

I was flustered and embarrassed:

"No… nothing."

He tilted his head slightly, as if merely observing, without a hint of a smile.

But that atmosphere was interrupted when Vũ Thần coughed softly, his voice cold and flat:

"Water?"

Kình Uyên turned to him. His face remained expressionless, but his gaze was sharper than usual:

"I thought you'd gone home. It's late now, are you… doing something here?"

Vũ Thần paused for a second, his eyes showing a hint of displeasure.

I quickly tugged at Jing Yuan's sleeve, whispering,

"Jing Yuan… could you go inside first? I… still have something to say."

He looked at me. His eyes darkened, his expression unclear, but finally he just nodded, bowing his head and whispering softly, only the two of us could hear:

"After you're done… come up to my room, young master."

Then he left without looking back.

Wu Shen silently watched the scene for a moment, then suddenly said,

"Don't get too close to him."

I was slightly startled and turned to ask,

"Why…?"

"Intuition."

His voice was soft but sharp. "A person like him… isn't simple."

I pursed my lips. For some reason, I felt uneasy hearing him say that.

After a few more words of conversation, Wu Shen stood up and left. Before leaving, he leaned down and lightly kissed my cheek. I jumped, clutching my flushed cheeks:

"A…you…what are you doing!"

But he only smiled, turned, and walked away.

I went upstairs, my mind still in turmoil. As I passed Kình Uyên's room, I saw the door slightly ajar. I hesitated, then pushed it open:

"Is…anyone in here?"

I stepped inside. His room was neat, cold, and excessively clean. Curious, I looked around, then was drawn to the cabinet under the desk. I was about to open it when…

A low voice whispered right next to my ear:

"Young master."

I jumped, turning around to see…

Kình Uyên had appeared behind me without me noticing.

"What are you doing in my room?"

His voice was low, but it sent a chill down my spine.

I stammered:

"I… I just came in to see where you were because you… you said I was looking for you…"

He looked slightly bewildered, not knowing I believed him, then took another step forward, causing me to instinctively recoil.

"Young master," he leaned down close to me, "as an omega, entering an alpha's room without permission… aren't you afraid?"

I trembled slightly, a little frightened:

"I… I didn't know… I'm sorry…"

In my heart, I wondered, "What's the difference between an alpha and an omega?"

His expression remained cold. His sharp gaze swept across my face. After a while, he released my hand and said indifferently:

"Go back to your room."

Seeing this, I didn't linger and turned to leave, muttering:

"Then… then I'll go…"

Before I could finish, my foot tripped over the edge of the bed. I fell forward…

I thought I would fall to the floor. But no.

Kình Uyên caught me, but perhaps due to my overconfidence, I pulled him down with me...

And my lips accidentally touched his.

I reacted first. I jumped up immediately, my face flushed:

"I... I'm sorry!!! I didn't mean to!!"

Then I ran out of the room so fast I almost slipped down the stairs.

Behind me, Kình Uyên remained seated, his finger lightly touching his lips, his expression unreadable:

"…So soft."

But very quickly, he withdrew his hand, his expression returning to normal as if nothing had happened...
