"Gavin, do you have any idea what you're doing?!"
"I can't believe he would say something like that!"
Shouts erupted in the courtroom, but despite all of this, one thing was constant: He never took his eyes off me.
He never stopped smiling at me.
And somehow, it felt as though he was trying to communicate with me in a way that no one else would understand. But I didn't either.
My heart raced as I continued to watch him raise the envelope over his head, not faltering even when the screams around us were getting louder with each passing second; not even when father rose to his feet, pointing a shaky finger at him as he growled; "Do you know what you're doing?!"
"Yes," Gavin replied quietly, seemingly unbothered before his eyes met mine again for the nth time this morning.
I turned away from him to look at the judge who sighed then shook her head, her brows furrowed in confusion.
