Chalice.
"Oh, hi Chalice! I didn't think you'd come!" My stupid cursed twin squealed in feign excitement, and as soon as I heard those words and the stupid fake sweetness that dripped off them like honey, my heart stopped.
Like literally stopped.
The corners of my eyes stung as it finally began to dawn on me that she was playing my games. And do you know what is worse?
The fact that she seemed to be just as good as me, if not better.
I subconsciously took a step forward, but just as I approached Leilani, Gavin stepped in. He stood between us as if acting like her human shield… as though he was afraid that I would hurt her… like she was some precious little thing that he needed to protect.
But I used to be his precious little thing.
I used to be the one he protects, not her.
