"We'll be docking soon, sir. Should be arriving shortly," the captain announced, his voice cutting through the gentle rhythm of waves against the boat.
"Appreciate it," I responded, settling back into my seat.
"First visit to Alonzo?" he inquired with casual interest.
I shook my head slowly. "Been here before." My eyes found the distant shoreline growing clearer by the moment. "First time bringing her, though."
The captain's weathered face broke into a knowing smile. "Ah, well then. You might want to consider making it official while you're here. This island has a reputation for marriages that last forever."
A quiet chuckle escaped me. "Maybe someday," I murmured, the words more for myself than for him.
His eyes twinkled with understanding before he turned back toward the wheelhouse, a tune humming from his lips.
