Chapter 156 - Chapter 156 Right In Front Of Me

Pauline's POV

The sharp edge of the knife bit through another onion as Emerson's demanding voice echoed from the living room.

"Pauline, bring me something to eat. Now."

I kept my eyes fixed on the cutting board. "Give me a second."

"Just handle it, Pauline." Cassandra's voice drifted in from where she sat with her newspaper. "Emerson had a long day. Stop what you're doing and take care of him."

Chapman's grunt of agreement rumbled from his recliner.

My knuckles went white around the knife handle. A long day? Emerson attended exactly one class today while I dragged myself through a full schedule. He spent most of his time lounging around campus, flirting with girls and making excuses to skip anything that required effort. Yet somehow he was the one too exhausted to walk across the room to the kitchen.

I bit back the sarcastic response burning on my tongue. Talking back would only make things worse.
