I felt like a ghost drifting through this gathering, which was honestly an improvement from my usual status. At least ghosts had mystery going for them.

Nobody here acknowledged my existence, and I wasn't about to complain. Being invisible meant fewer whispered conversations that stopped when I walked by, fewer sympathetic looks from pack members who had no idea how to handle me, and most importantly, fewer opportunities to encounter the people I was desperately trying to avoid.

Too bad I still had functioning eyesight. Because the moment he walked into the hall, my gaze found him like a magnet drawn to steel.

The second he crossed the threshold, every head in the room swiveled toward him like sunflowers turning toward dawn. Attention gravitated to him naturally, as if the goddess herself had decided to bathe her chosen Alpha in celestial light. He looked devastatingly handsome in his formal attire.
