Gildarts' return brought "Fairy Tail" back to life.
This almost forty-year-old man could really play along with the kids, and he seemed especially in sync with Natsu.
After being directly K.O.'d by a punch from Gildarts, Natsu latched onto him, hoping to receive guidance.
Gildarts didn't refuse. After finishing special training with Moen every day, he would also take time to teach Natsu.
The two got along very well, looking almost like a real father and son.
Moen guessed that Natsu probably sensed a fatherly care from Gildarts. Having just been separated from his "father," Natsu naturally relied on Gildarts.
Unconsciously, Moen had also accepted the idea of Natsu's father being a fire dragon, though he still felt Natsu was probably found by the fire dragon rather than being its biological child.
"Moen, today is still very lucky for you!"
In the "Fairy Tail" guild hall, Cana blinked her big eyes, holding her tarot cards with a serious expression.
But her words made Moen, sitting across from her, look peculiar.
"Cana… I'm not doubting your fortune-telling, but… can anyone really have good luck every day for three hundred sixty-five days?"
Moen grinned, hesitating to speak. Not just 365 days—since Cana started learning divination, every reading he had gotten from her had been "good luck," at worst a "small luck"!
…Is this normal?
"Of course! Moen, aren't you an example?"
Cana said firmly, then hurriedly put her tarot cards away.
"But when you read for others, it never seems like this?"
Moen stared at Cana, still looking puzzled. At first, he didn't think much of it, but over time, even he noticed something odd about her readings.
"Moen, you're different from others."
Cana put away the tarot cards and whispered. Facing Moen's doubt, she seemed a bit anxious, her cheeks flushed. After saying this, her face turned even redder.
"Please trust my fortune-telling skills!"
Before Moen could respond, Cana spoke loudly, almost angrily.
"All right, all right, of course I trust your skills."
Moen immediately stopped questioning. You can't guess a girl's thoughts; young girls think very differently.
"Cana, are you going to find Gildarts and the others?"
Moen wisely changed the topic, no longer dwelling on luck.
He asked because Cana had packed up her things, looking like she was heading out, and Gildarts had just taken some kids outside, probably to the forest.
"No, I'm going back to the dorm."
Cana shook her head, her cheeks still red and cute.
"Ah? Going back so early?"
Moen looked surprised. Coming and leaving this early—what's going on?
"I have a mission later. I'll leave directly from the dorm."
Cana explained. If she had nothing to do, she would have stayed at the guild to enjoy the lively atmosphere.
"What mission? Just you?"
Moen nodded and asked curiously.
"No, Levy and Erza are coming too. I don't know the details; Erza invited the two of us."
Cana shook her head. She didn't know the mission specifics, but as long as Erza was there, it would surely be fine.
"Oh, then goodbye. Good luck with your mission."
Moen smiled and waved to Cana. He thought the same—if Erza was with them, there'd be no problem.
Levy and Cana could both use magic. Though they weren't very skilled yet and still needed practice, with Erza added, their small team's combat strength was formidable.
They trusted Erza's ability completely. If it were only Levy and Cana, Moen would be concerned.
'So even though she has a mission, Cana still came to the guild this early just to check my fortune?'
Watching Cana already jogging away from the guild, Moen paused, suddenly realizing this.
Whenever Moen was at the guild, Cana would check his fortune every morning, so he had grown accustomed to it.
Even though she had something to do today, she still came over to check his luck, which made Moen silently admire her diligence.
"This girl Cana… should spend more time with Gildarts."
As Moen was reflecting, a voice suddenly came from under the table.
Seeing the small jester hat with horns emerging from under the table, Moen couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth, his face full of silent disbelief.
"Grandpa Makarov, since when have you been here?"
Moen rubbed his brow, swallowing all his exasperation. This old kid always managed to do things that made one's head spin.
"Ahem, just arrived."
Makarov coughed lightly. He hadn't overheard anything he shouldn't have.
"But it does seem that Cana isn't very keen on getting close to Gildarts. She always quietly watches from the side."
Moen rolled his eyes, then shared his own observations. This was actually quite obvious; he had noticed it before.
As the central figure, uh, as the big brother and caretaker of the kids, Moen paid attention to each child's emotions.
When everyone else excitedly gathered around Gildarts, only Cana watched from the side with a complicated expression, hesitant to get close.
"Could there be some story behind it?"
Moen asked curiously. If there was, Master Makarov would definitely know.
Noticing Moen's curious look, Makarov glanced around like a thief. Seeing that no one was paying attention, the little old man sneaked up close to Moen.
"Gildarts was once married."
Makarov lowered his voice, speaking words that made Moen's eyes widen in shock.
"Ah?!"
Moen couldn't hide his disbelief, but Makarov immediately covered his mouth.
"Shh!"
Makarov's expression was tense, signaling Moen to stay quiet.
"Don't shout. Not many people know about this!"
The little old man acted sneaky, as if it were some forbidden secret.
"Wait, what?! Really?!"
Moen was completely stunned, beginning to wonder if Master Makarov was joking with him.
Because the implication of Makarov's words was… could Cana actually be Gildarts' daughter?!
