Chapter 121: Self-Destruct Strategy
On the third day, the match between Ryan and Harrison officially began. Ryan and Harrison arrived at the arena and took their positions. Then, under the passionate commentary of the announcer, the field selection began.
As the roulette spun, it landed on the water field. Harrison whistled and said with a smile, "This is the field I wanted most, Ryan. Even though I can't beat you, I'll show you my strength!"
Then, the attack order was decided, with the cursor landing on the green square—Harrison would attack first.
Without hesitation, Harrison said, "Arbok, I choose you!"
"Solgaleo, it's your turn!" Ryan declared.
Its evolve from Cosmoem . It is one of Cosmog's final forms, the other being Lunala. Ryan choose solgaleo because of its size and cool looking and he has very powerful ability. So
Arbok entered the arena and immediately dove into the water, leaving only its head visible. Solgaleo, with a deafening roar, made a dazzling entrance. Its massive size instantly captured everyone's attention. Ryan, watching his popularity points skyrocket, felt incredibly satisfied!
"Arbok, Toxic!" Harrison declared.
Arbok dove into the water and launched a volley of poisonous sludge at Solgaleo. But Solgaleo didn't dodge. The poison bullets hit Solgaleo and slid directly off, splashing into the pool without leaving any damage at all.
"Don't waste your energy! My Solgaleo has the Steel typing. Your poison—" Ryan hadn't finished speaking when he suddenly saw the entire azure pool transform into a pool of toxic purple. The corrosive venom completely corroded the several floating platforms on the water field.
"Hehe, turning the water field into a toxic field is also my backup plan," Harrison said.
Ryan shook his head and said, "That's a clever idea, but Legendary Pokémon generally have flight capabilities. Even those that can't fly can levitate in the air. Your toxic field is useless. Solgaleo, use Psychic!"
Solgaleo's powerful psychic energy lifted Arbok out of the water, then gently flung it, sending it crashing onto the ground nearby, rendering it unable to battle.
"Return, Arbok. Go, Murkrow!" Harrison sent out the Flying-type Murkrow, apparently preparing to counter the Psychic-type Pokémon.
"Murkrow, Perish Song!" Harrison also went all out, going for a self-destruct strategy.
Ryan said helplessly, "Protect."
Solgaleo was shielded by a protective barrier, and Murkrow's Perish Song had no effect on Solgaleo. But Harrison was determined to challenge Ryan, and the Perish Song continued to echo. Ryan had no choice but to use Solgaleo's Thunderbolt to knock out Murkrow. But the Perish Song also took effect, and Ryan had no choice but to switch out Solgaleo.
"Weezing, go ahead!" Harrison sent out Weezing.
"Celebi, please," Ryan said.
Celebi nodded and flew from Ryan's shoulder into the arena. Her petite and adorable figure attracted a huge number of viewers, and the announcer mentioned that Celebi was a Legendary Pokémon closely associated with the Johto region, which immediately boosted Ryan's popularity.
Ryan secretly gave the announcer a mental thumbs-up, and at the same time, began preparing to counter Harrison's self-destruct strategy again.
"Weezing, Smokescreen!" Harrison shouted.
Weezing immediately erupted in thick smoke, enveloping the entire venue. Then, through his bond with his Pokémon, Ryan sensed a dark shadow charging toward Celebi. He identified the shadow's position and immediately instructed Celebi to grab hold of Weezing.
Ryan was getting irritated. The constant use of self-destruct moves was making him incredibly nervous. After all, if a Legendary Pokémon were taken down by a self-destruct attack, its dignity would be trampled into the ground.
Harrison calculated the timing, then called out, "Weezing, Self-Destruct!"
Weezing's massive explosion ignited the gas it had spewed, with a thunderous blast that set the entire venue ablaze. Even the organizers were forced to raise the protective barriers to withstand the explosion.
When the dust settled, the entire venue had been devastated, and the poison in the water field was half depleted. The announcer wiped the sweat from his forehead and exclaimed in admiration at Celebi, who was perfectly protected by its barrier. He also announced that Harrison had lost three Pokémon and a five-minute break would commence.
Harrison and Ryan exchanged glances, both filled with frustration.
Harrison's frustration was that his tactics had been discovered, while Ryan's frustration was that he was annoyed by the constant self-destruct strategy.
After the five-minute break, the two returned to the stage. The water field was also replaced with a pool of clear water.
"I choose you, Electrode!" Harrison sent out Electrode.
Electrode is a round Pokémon without arms or legs. It looks like an upside-down Poké Ball, but it's also a master at self-destructing. Ryan was furious: Harrison was sticking with this self-destruct strategy.
"Celebi, Future Sight!" Ryan, thoroughly annoyed, immediately activated his ultimate move.
Celebi released a flood of psychic energy spheres, each one shooting into a dimensional rift. Then, in a flash of electricity, Electrode charged at Celebi using Spark. Celebi unleashed Leech Seed, which planted itself in front of Celebi. Then, under Celebi's power, it rapidly sprouted, forming a vine wall that blocked Electrode's electric attack.
"Perfect opportunity, Electrode, Explosion!" Harrison shouted.
Ryan was too tired to complain. The Explosion shattered the vine wall, and the subsequent shockwave sent Celebi flying, injuring it slightly.
Many of the spectators in the stands, including some trainers, were astonished to see that Explosion could actually damage Legendary Pokémon. An idea suddenly occurred to them: Art is explosion! Not strong enough? Then use explosions. Can't win? Then use explosions. Want to capture Legendary Pokémon? Then send a bunch of self-destructing Pokémon! Indeed, art is explosion!
But Ryan wasn't going to give Harrison another chance; after all, those explosions were just too annoying.
"Go, Qwilfish!" Harrison said.
Qwilfish entered the stage, and as soon as it dove into the water, a large number of psychic spheres appeared near it from the Future Sight. Then, after a period of brutal assault, Qwilfish was eliminated as soon as it entered the battle.
"Return, Qwilfish," Harrison glared at Ryan with resentment, finally sending out his Crobat.
And then, nothing more happened. A barrage of psychic spheres from Future Sight pelted Crobat, leaving it without a chance to fight back, instantly rendering it unable to battle.
Harrison sighed, recalled Crobat, and then glared at Ryan with lingering resentment.
Ryan felt a little unnerved by his gaze and walked over to shake his hand. Harrison then said, "You killed me."
"Let's battle properly next time," Ryan said with a glare. "You went straight for the self-destruct strategy, fighting like that. If I didn't deal with you quickly, who knows what else you would've pulled."
The two glanced at each other and smiled. Harrison grinned, fist-bumping Ryan and saying, "Give it your all in the next match. Don't lose to anyone until I defeat you."
"Don't worry, I'm definitely winning this championship," Ryan said confidently.
Ryan then extended his fist toward him. Harrison smiled and bumped fists with him, sealing their promise.
