GTAG Chapter 97 Eyes and Ears
Godzilla effortlessly invaded the intruder's memories.
A quick scan was enough to reveal who this man was and how he had stumbled inside.
After grasping the truth, Godzilla was speechless for a long while. Finally, he muttered one line.
You really know how to play.
But one question remained. Newton had only used the brain of an ordinary proliferated specimen—completely unmodified. How had he connected to the Godzilla Network?
And across worlds, no less.
That was unreasonable by any measure.
Had he overlooked something?
Godzilla searched his mind. Nothing.
Could it be that the Godzilla Network had upgraded itself?
His secondary brain spun into action, and then he discovered the truth. It wasn't just Newton. Any monster created from his G-cells could now connect.
Most connections were in his original world—his main base.
But here and there, scattered across other worlds, were a few more.
Creatures merely tainted by G-cells could not connect, nor could organisms warped by the G-virus.
The most astonishing part: the network's signal was flawless.
Even across worlds, there wasn't a flicker of instability.
When Godzilla peeked through the network back at his base, everything was unchanged. Years had passed without any major incidents. So he let it be.
He circled Newton's unstable spirit, considering his fate. The human's consciousness was already fraying, on the verge of collapse.
But Godzilla did not crush him. Instead, he released him.
With the discovery that his network could cross dimensions, Godzilla conceived a new plan.
He would place his "eyes and ears" in every world he touched.
Enough of them, and surprises were inevitable.
For Godzilla, this was trivial effort.
And Newton… might still prove useful.
Through the network, Godzilla had just received curious news from his base.
Some humans there had begun altering themselves with G-cells, seeking strength or longevity.
But the results were disastrous.
Nearly all who underwent the transformation were consumed in the end, their bodies becoming food for the growing G-cells.
Those completely devoured became monsters, spreading chaos and destruction across the world.
The death toll was staggering.
But did this matter to Godzilla?
Not at all.
It wasn't even significant.
The only part that piqued his interest was the technology itself.
Even after being consumed, remnants of memory clung to their brains, making the new monsters harder to handle.
From those memories, Godzilla gleaned the secrets of human bio-modification—and promptly dumped them into Newton's mind.
At the same time, he tweaked the G-cells of Newton's world, softening their aggression.
Combined with the modifications, humans could now become powerful warriors, with minimal drawbacks.
Of course, that was only because Godzilla suppressed the cells' danger. Without his hand, it would be impossible.
Newton's consciousness was flung back. He jolted awake.
"!!!"
He shot up from the chair, only for dizziness to crush him. He collapsed, knees smashing into the floor, his face burying into the seat. Then his body slid bonelessly to the ground.
Blood trailed down from his ears and nostrils, staining both chair and floor.
His world spun like poison mushrooms were blooming in his veins.
He wanted nothing more than to sleep for a week.
But he knew he couldn't. If he lost consciousness, he might never wake again. He could even starve in his dreams.
Summoning his last reserves of strength, Newton crawled into the elevator. He sealed off the passages to the underground lab and finally dialed 911.
When the ambulance arrived, they found him collapsed on the carpet.
At the hospital, scans showed massive trauma to the brain.
The doctors warned: he might never wake.
News spread quickly.
Newton wasn't just anyone. He had once been the last surviving member of the Pacific Rim base, a man of renown. His collapse stirred widespread curiosity.
Why had he fallen into a coma?
Thankfully, his old colleagues acted fast. They swept his villa clean, clearing out the underground lab.
They learned the truth.
Newton had been linking his mind with a monster's brain.
Frankly, it was a miracle he'd survived long enough to crawl out.
To cover his tracks, they moved his equipment elsewhere and filled the lab with tissues from Kaiju corpses, making it appear that he had only been studying monsters.
The disguise was flawless, even to experts.
Newton remained unconscious for three months.
——
After discarding Newton, Godzilla refocused on his expanding coordinates, pondering what kind of "eyes and ears" to seed across the worlds.
He could have simply scattered monsters and let them breed.
But that was boring.
Newton's world was a better model.
There, he would make the altered humans his agents.
If Newton resisted, so be it—he could always implant the knowledge into someone else.
Satisfied, Godzilla turned to his Monster Factory, crafting bizarrely shaped beasts for no reason other than amusement.
