Chapter 4 - Episode 4- Office Frenzy And Lantern Lights

Shanghai sparkled under the soft afternoon sun as Li Mei stepped into Phoenix Media Solution, her bag swinging slightly from her shoulder. Today was her second week at the company, and she was determined to make a better impression. No spills, no chaos... well, at least she hoped.

"Morning, live wire!" Hao Chen's voice rang out before she could even reach the elevator.

Li Mei gave him a weary smile. "I swear, if I trip today, it's your fault for cheering me oa yesterday."

Hao Chen laughed. "Cheerleader and hazard manager, all in one package!"

The office buzzed with activity. Zhang Wei sat in his corner office, reviewing a client's media plan. He noticed Li Mei entering, holding a stack of proposals. She walked carefully, but her food caught the edge of a small box near the reception. Papers flew like confetti.

"Oh no!" She gasped, bending down frantically.

Zhang Wei stepped out, his polished shoes barely making a sou d on the marble floor. He surveyed the scattered papers, then Li Mei's embarrassed face, and raise an eyebrow.

"You do have a talent for chaos," he said evenly, a hi t of amusement in his eyes.

Li Mei swallowed. "I can organize it... I mean, I will organize it," she stammered, gathering the papers.

Hao Chen peeked around the corner, snickering. "Don't, Boss. She keeps life interesting."

Li Mei glared playfully. "You're supposed to help, not make jokes!"

Meanwhile, across the office, jealous ones colleagues were whispering.

• "Who is she? And why does Zhang Wei keep looking at her like that?"

• "I don't get it. She's messy, yet everyone seems to like her."

Li Mei's determined was put to the test with her first team meeting of the day. As she attempted to present a fresh media campaign, her notes got mixed up with Hao Chen's sticky notes. She accidentally showcased a funny memes instead of a campaign graph.

The room froze.

"Uh..." Li Mei laughed nervously. "Well... creativity, right?"

Zhang Wei appeared behind her chair, arms crossed, a slight smirk playing on his lips. "Improvise. That's what keeps things alive."

Li Mei's cheeks burned red, but she couldn't help but smile. Somehow, his words gave her confidence.

During lunch, she joined her friend's Lin Xia, Zhao Rui, Wang Lan, and Chen Yu- via video call. They were curious about every detail.

Lin Xia teased, "So... how many mistakes today?"

Zhao Rui grinned, "Tell us every smirk Zhang Wei gave!"

Wang Lan clapped her hands, "Did you trip over anything this time?"

Chen Yu sighed, "Focus on work first, gossip later."

Li Mei shook her head, laughing. "It's not that bad! I maybe only spilled coffee once q."

Hao Chen leaned in from behind her screen, whispering: "I'd call that a performance."

In the afternoon, the office courtyard began preparations qfor the Lantern Festival. Red and gold lanterns hung from the ceiling, and tiny fairy lights twinkled in every corner. Li Mei's eyes sparkled with excitement.

"Wow... I've never seen anything like this at work!" She exclaimed, untangling a string of lights and accidentally dropping one in the fountain.

Zhang Wei, observing silently, couldn't help but step forward. "Careful. Those lights are more delicate than you are."

Li Mei looked up, meeting his gaze, and couldn't help but feel her heart skip a beat. "I can handle it1... mostly."

Hao Chen, nearby, snorted, "Mostly? That's enough for a disasterwaiting to happen."

As the day went on, Li Mei grew more comfortable with her colleagues, even managing to win over a few previously skeptical once. However, jealous whispers continued, as certain coworkers eyed her suspiciously.

Meanwhile, Hao Chen and her friends plotted little mischiefs, teasing Li Mei throughout the day. A small water balloon prank turned into a playful chase around the office, much to Zhang Wei's silent amusement. He watched as Li Mei darted between desks, laughing and trying to escape, papers flying, hair a mess, yet somehow looking enchanting.

"Stop!" Li Mei Shouted, though her laughter betrayed her words.

Zhang Wei leaned back against a pillar, arms crossed, smirk widening. "I never thought watching someone run around could be... entertaining."

As evening approached, the office was bathed in warm lantern light. Li Mei helped hang the final lanterns, her hands slightly trembling from excitement and exhausting. Zhang Wei approached, holding one lantern himself.

"You seem more at ease here," he remarked, handing her the lantern.

Li Mei accepted it, their fingers brushing slightly. "I... I guess I am," she admitted.

Zhang Wei's usually stern expression softened for a moment. "Good. You'll need that ease. Chaos is only going to increase."

Hao Chen appeared, holding a tray of lantern candles. "Let's light them before someone accidentally sets the office on fire."

Li Mei laughed. "Very funny. You're supposed to be helpful, not scary."

As th candles flickered, the office glowed like a miniature festival. Li Mei and Zhang Wei stood side by side, both silently taking in the warm, magical ambience. For a fleeting moment, the world outside the office seemed distant.

However, the mischievous friends had other plans. Lin Xia sent a message with a tiny prank, and before Li Mei knew it, a small glitter bomb popped near Zhang Wei's feet. He jumped slightly, then looked down at Li Mei with mock sternness.

"You!" He exclaimed, though a smile tugged at his lips.

"I didn't-okay, maybe I did," Li Mei admitted, unable to contain her laughter.

Hao Chen and the friends doubled over in laughter from the sidelines. Even jealous colleagues couldn't hide their amused expressions.

By the end of the day, Li Mei had:

•Survived multiple minor accidents

• Managed to charm even the skeptical coworkers

• Created a small, playful chaos during Lantern Festival preparations

• Shared a few fleeting, electric moments with Zhang Wei

Zhang Wei, observing her from a distance as the lanterns swayed, realized he was unexpectedly intrigued by this whirlwind of energy. Her laughter, clumsiness, and heartful sincerity were unlike anything he had encountered.

Li Mei left the office later that evening, heart light despite the day's exhaustion. Shanghai's night air was cool and crisp, and lanterns reflected off the streets like scattered stars. She smiled, unaware that her office adventures had already begun weaving a complex web of teasing, friendships, subtle rivalries, and slowly budding romance.
