Chapter 122 - Evolution! The Light Blue Kaleidoscope

Uchiha Shigure slowly opened his eyes. At once, the atmosphere shifted.

"It seems… my perception has sharpened greatly," he murmured, his voice low but steady. He blinked several times, trying to adjust to the strange, powerful sensation coursing through him. "And not just that—my body feels different too…"

The three goddesses who had been standing nearby gasped in unison.

"Immortal!" one of them exclaimed. "You seem to have… changed."

Shigure looked down at his own hands, flexing them as if to confirm. "Is there a mirror?"

One of the women quickly passed him a polished metal disk. When Shigure caught sight of his reflection, he froze.

"Sure enough… everything really has changed."

The boy who only moments ago had been gray-haired and unassuming now bore a completely different appearance. His hair had lost every trace of its old ash-colored hue, now a shimmering white that caught the light like fresh snow. His frame seemed taller, older, eminently more imposing. Between his brows, the Yin-Yang Seal—known also as the Haoxue Seal—still pulsed faintly with power, but now it was complemented by an aura that radiated heroic, almost divine spirit.

Six distinct magatama had manifested on his chest, black circles as if carved into his very being. Horn-like protrusions jutted gracefully from his skull, fully grown this time, and an ethereal white robe wrapped itself around him—glorious, reverent, like the robes depicted in tales of the Sage of Six Paths or Madara in his transcendent state. Beneath that godlike mantle lay his familiar dragon scale armor, its dark shimmer a quiet reminder of the warrior beneath.

But none of those changes compared to the eyes.

Shigure leaned closer to the mirror, breath catching. His three-tomoe Sharingan—always sharp, always cold—was no more. The whites of his eyes had transformed into a luminous light blue, as if they themselves were glowing quartz. In the center, the pupil had morphed into the shape of a four-pointed, straight-edged shuriken. The sight of it chilled even him.

"These eyes…!" His voice trembled, not wholly with fear, but with awe. "The shape—it resembles a Mangekyō Sharingan. But why… why are the whites of my eyes blue? And what about my Byakugan abilities? Are they lost?"

With a thought, he reached for that familiar sense, and immediately the wide expanse of the world unfolded before him. Relief washed over him.

"No. They're still here. The Byakugan has not disappeared at all. It's merged… evolved." He exhaled and smiled slightly. "Just a thought, and it opens. A thought, and it closes. Just like my old Sharingan. But these new eyes… this must be something far beyond."

The three goddesses whispered among themselves, unable to look away from the radiant transformation before them.

Shigure turned his gaze outward. Instantly, the distance he could perceive expanded, stretching far beyond the range of even the finest Hyūga. A few kilometers, with absolute clarity—every shifting leaf, every breath of wind recorded into his mind. It resembled clairvoyance, though imperfect, less mythical than the tales of sages who could see across thousands of miles. Still, it was undeniable: he had ascended to another domain.

The Uzumaki bloodline within him stirred as well, aligning and fusing seamlessly with his ocular gifts. He no longer saw in only the stark colors of chakra networks; the world shimmered for him in its true hues, more vivid than any normal vision could grant.

A strange, amused huff escaped his lips. "If Jiraiya ever gained an eye like this…" He trailed off, shaking his head. "He'd probably squander these divine gifts writing indecent stories."

Even he had never witnessed such a Mangekyō form before. It was unique, wholly his.

"This really is… my kaleidoscope. I can feel it—the immense pupil power surging in me. But what power does it hold?" Shigure stepped away from the mirror, body humming with anticipation.

Testing the Eyes

"Let's try offensive abilities first." He focused his gaze on a nearby wooden stake and whispered the name of the legendary flame: "Amaterasu."

Nothing happened.

Brows furrowed, he tried again: "Kagutsuchi-no-Mikoto!"

Still nothing. The wood remained whole, untouched.

He sighed. "Not offensive, then? Or am I wielding it wrong?"

A thought struck him. "That's right. To cast Mangekyō abilities, one sometimes closes an eye…" He shut his left eye and tried again, ordering, "Amaterasu!"

Silence.

His lips curled into something between a smirk and a grimace. "Fine… no black flames for me. Even though I absorbed a trace of Itachi's bloodline power while he is still growing in Mikoto's womb—still, no Amaterasu? What a pity."

He turned his attention to genjutsu. Tsukuyomi, Kotoamatsukami—he tested, commanded, yearned. Nothing answered the call.

"It seems this ability isn't illusion either." He crossed his arms, deep in thought.

Every Uchiha's Mangekyō was unique. Amaterasu, Kamui, Kotoamatsukami—each born from powerful emotions and destiny. His path was… different. He hadn't undergone the raw grief or trauma most did. Instead, he had devoured and inherited blood from across generations.

"But my pupil power is still stronger than any normal Mangekyō. That much I know." His light blue gaze glimmered dangerously. "Perhaps it's spatial in nature, like Obito's Kamui."

He sat, eyes closed, breathing deep, letting that raw energy well up without straining. Slowly, he began to sense it—an undercurrent beneath the usual pulse of chakra. The world around him seemed to shimmer, unfamiliar, as though time itself rustled in the background of his vision.

"Yes… space, but not Kamui. Something else."

For a moment, irritation pierced him. "Why is it that others unleash their powers the moment they awaken? Meanwhile, I must study like this, groping in the dark?" He shook his head, squared his shoulders. "No matter. Let's test it properly."

The First Experiment

He drew the Dragon Fang Blade and hurled it with all his strength at the old wooden stake. As steel cut the air, Shigure closed his left eye and allowed his right Mangekyō to surge to life.

In an instant, his vision wavered violently. No blood seeped like it did for Itachi or Sasuke, but faint veins spiderwebbed red across his sclera.

The world changed.

Color drained from everything—trees, sky, earth—all of it dulled to lifeless gray. The air itself felt heavy and quiet, as if sound no longer wished to exist. Everything, except for Shigure himself, was frozen.

He flickered forward with ease, plucked the soaring Dragon Fang Blade straight from where it hung motionless in midair, then casually strolled back to his original position. Only then did he release the eye technique.

Reality returned in a rush. Color bled back into the world, wind stirred and the sounds of rustling leaves resumed as if nothing had paused. The strain on his right eye eased, and in a few breaths, even the fatigue disappeared. Remarkably, his vision was entirely intact.

The three goddesses stared at him with mouths agape.

"Immortal… just now—we saw you throw the blade, and then suddenly it was back in your hand! But w-we never saw you move!"

Shen Ji's voice shook. "Even Flying Thunder God or Body Flicker has signs—chakra buildup, hand seals, displacement. But you vanished without anything. You… you stopped time itself, didn't you?"

Shigure twirled the Dragon Fang Blade once before sliding it back into its sheath. His smirk was calm, but his heart thundered in excitement.

"I told you. I did move. I simply crossed the distance in a way you couldn't perceive. This… is the ability of my right Mangekyō." His light blue eyes gleamed dangerously, reflecting both pride and the beginning of realization.

"A time-type ability," he concluded softly. "The power to control time itself."
