Chapter 131 - Chapter 131 - The Raw Truth

The Calm Before the Storm

The hospital hallway was dimly lit, the sterile white floors reflecting the blue light of the television. Gabriella stood frozen, her eyes glued to the screen as the news of Robert's arrest flashed. Her heart was a mess of confusion. Just as she turned, she saw a familiar figure walking down the corridor.

Felix was walking slowly, his tall frame slightly hunched in a light blue hospital gown that made him look vulnerable for the first time. Gabriella didn't think; she just ran.

"Where were you?!" she cried, her voice cracking with a mix of anger and pure terror. "I was so scared... I thought something happened to you!"

Felix's usual smirk vanished instantly. He stared at her, stunned by the raw emotion in her eyes. He had never seen her look at him like that—without the mask of revenge, without the ice. Just a girl terrified of losing him.

"I... I..." he stammered, his heart skipping a beat.

"Actually, I took him for a scan," a nurse interrupted, walking up behind them with a clipboard. "The bullet missed the bone, but we had to be sure. He's fine."

Gabriella flipped her hair back in a nervous panic, her chest heaving. "You should have told me!"

"You were sleeping so peacefully," Felix said, his voice dropping to a gentle, serious tone that sent a shiver down her spine. "I told them not to wake you."

Gabriella's face softened for a split second as their eyes locked. The air between them felt thick with something that wasn't just friendship. She exhaled, the tension leaving her body as she grabbed his hand firmly. "I'm taking him back to his room," she told the nurse, her grip on him protective and warm.

The Roar of the Fallen Queen

Across the city, the atmosphere was much darker. Raina's bedroom—usually a temple of luxury—was a disaster zone. Vases were shattered, and silk pillows were torn apart.

Raina stood in the center of the mess, her crimson velvet dress from the party discarded on the floor. Her hair was a wild tangle, and her eyes were bloodshot with rage. She kept seeing the image of the burning banner.

"GABRIELLA!" she roared, the name echoing off the walls.

Her mother, Bianca, stepped into the room, her face a mask of cold determination. She tried to touch Raina's shoulder, but Raina shoved her hand away.

"Leave it to me," Bianca said, her voice like steel. "I will handle her. We can arrange another party, a bigger announcement. You are still the heir."

Raina shook her head slowly, a chilling, twisted smile creeping onto her lips. "No. She won't let that happen. Before we announce anything else, we have to bring her down once and for all."

Bianca's phone buzzed. She glanced at it and moved toward the door. "I have to take this. I'm telling the media to publish the news immediately: you are taking charge of the Royal Group today."

As Bianca left the room, the silence returned, heavier than before. Raina sat on the edge of her bed, her breathing ragged. She reached into her vanity drawer and pulled out a delicate half-moon bracelet.

She stared at the silver jewelry, her fingers trembling with a mix of hatred and a secret sorrow. This wasn't just a piece of jewelry; it was the emotion.

Fragments of a Dream

The morning light spilled into the hospital room, softening the harsh, white edges of the machines. Gabriella was still asleep, her head resting on the edge of the mattress while her body remained slumped in the uncomfortable plastic chair.

Felix watched her in the quiet of the dawn. Gabriella's face, usually tight with the stress of her vendetta, was relaxed. A small, genuine smile played on her lips. She looked so innocent that Felix whispered to himself, "Cute. No one would believe this is the same girl living for revenge."

Gabriella stirred, her eyelashes fluttering. As she sat up and rubbed her eyes, she caught Felix watching her.

"Sorry," she murmured, her voice thick with sleep. "I slept too long. Do you need anything?"

"Nothing," Felix replied softly. "Were you dreaming? You were smiling."

Gabriella tucked a stray hair behind her ear. "It's a recurring dream. I'm a kid again, playing with a little girl. I think she was my cousin. I saw her when I was very small, but I don't remember her face clearly. My mom said it was probably her."

"Where is she now?" Felix asked. "Are you not in touch?"

Gabriella's smile faded into a look of deep, old sorrow. "She died. She was Han's sister."

Felix's eyes softened with a look of pained understanding. As Gabriella stood up to head to the canteen, he reached out and grabbed her hand. His touch was firm, yet warm.

"Gabriella... I want to tell you something," he said, his voice dropping to a serious, heavy tone. "My lover... she died four years ago."

Gabriella froze. A wave of guilt washed over her. "I'm so sorry. I've been so hard on you... I didn't know. I'm really sorry."

"Leave it," Felix said, looking her directly in the eye. "I just want you to know that I don't play with people's emotions, Gabriella. I'm serious about us."

For a moment, the air between them hummed with a new kind of energy—not just attraction, but a deep, shared bond of loss.

Suddenly, the door swung open, and Felix's Assistant stepped in. Gabriella, feeling flustered, gave a quick smile. "I'll leave you two to talk. I'm going to the canteen," she said, quickly making her exit.

Once the door clicked shut, the Assistant turned to Felix with narrowed eyes and a knowing smirk. "Really? Don't tell me you don't love her. I saw how you were looking at her."

Felix leaned back against the pillows, a small, helpless smile tugging at his lips.

"So, you like her?" the Assistant pressed. "When did that happen?"

"I don't know exactly when it started," Felix admitted, his voice barely a whisper. "But I realized it yesterday. When I saw her crying... when I saw her desperate to rescue me at whatever cost... I realized I'd completely lost myself to her."
