The phone rang in my car as I idled in traffic, Lorenzo's name flashing on the screen and I hit accept.
"Ren, we need to talk," I said, skipping pleasantries. "What's this about you taking Alessia to New York? Alone?"
He sighed on the other end, the sound heavy. "Business trip, Adams. Merger meetings and she's my assistant."
"Assistant?" I scoffed, merging onto the highway. "I know you, man. You're not the type to mix work with family without a reason. Remember she's my little sister."
"I know," he replied, his tone edged. "She handled everything like a pro. So die any other thoughts within you."
I drummed my fingers on the dash, vague rumors from our circle had me on alert.
"Just keep it professional, Ren. She's young, and impressionable. The last thing she needs is complications."
"Complications?" He laughed, short and sharp. "You sound like her dad. Relax dude, I'm watching out for her, like always."
